  1. Plus Gas used to work well, but haven't seen it for years.
  2. If you are scrapping it, they will just drag it on with a winch, that's what they did with mine last week. A few bits of wood was all that was needed.
  3. Halfords paint is OK, seems to go on well, has a good finish, easy to apply lasts a god amount of time, can't really fault it.....although it's not particularly knock resistant or tough.
  4. I used my GT4 as a daily driver for many years, both short trips to the office which was about six miles, and long commutes down to Trawsfynydd in Wales, Watchet in Somerset and up to Largs in Scotland. Never let me down once in either standard form or when I was running 1.3 bar of boost, even with 235,000 miles on the clock it never missed a beat. In the last three years of ownership all I did was replace oil, and still no problems what so ever. However the diesel soda I got never ran right, cost me a fortune in maintenance and was generally a pain in the arse. Two head gaskets, three turbos, two cam shafts, a complete cooling system replacement etc etc. Petrol is the only cost above the normal running costs of any car if you look after it and don't start messing with it. The worst thing I ever did to my GT4 was to not use it every day, they like being driven.
  5. Yes, which is why I suggested painting it before adding the shrink wrap. It would be no worse than powder coating which also traps moisture when it gets chipped. As for its rip, tear, pinch resistance I have no idea, try it, the. After a few months remove it to see how it has fared?
  6. You could paint them black with some good paint....then use some of that shrink wrap stuff that you use on electrical connections, Maplins sell long lengths of it in all sorts of diameters.
  7. I used this stuff on my brake callipers, it has a nice high gloss finish. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00GOL964U/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  8. On a non superstrut car the braided hoses will be fine, you should not have many problems. The only obvious problem is with superstrut suspension and the twisting force it imposes on the brake line...... the only way I could think of overcoming this is to have a full length braided line from the connection on the inner wing all the way to the calliper. This would share the twisting force over a greater length of pipe reducing the stresses and strains imposed upon it. I spent some time with HEL trying to help them develop a braided line for the ST205, but they rushed into things, ballsed it up, and I gave up with them in the end. I am probably going to stick with standard lines on my rebuild unless I get some custom lines made for me. If you are set on fitting braided lines then just check them regularly as when they fail, due to their structure, they fail completely.
  9. Happy Anniversary Insanity-74!

  10. I don't think they offer any real benefits. Higher pressure will only come as a result of higher temps in the cooling system which if your getting is either a problem elsewhere, or pushing more power through the engine, in which case you should have the appropriate cooling modifications to cope, not just putting on a rad cap. personally I would think that I would want the pressure to be relieved as soon as possible by the rad cap instead of potentially bursting out of other places and emptying all you coolant all over the floor. IMO it's one of those "tuning company specials" designed to relieve you of you hard earned cash under the guise of performance increase.
  11. That gets my vote, black would also look quite good.
  12. True, a machined alloy bracket would look über cool.
  13. Would it to be easier and cheaper to make it from welded together sheet aluminium?
  14. OK, thanks all. I think I will give the plastic padding stuff a try. Thanks again Nial
  15. I have noticed that with certain brands of body filler you tend to end up with lots of air bubbles in it once its dry so when you come to paint, there are many little craters in the filler to errr fill in. What's causing this? I mix the filler with a small metal rod, is there a better way of mixing the filler and the setting agent? Is the way I am mixing it introducing air? It's becoming rather frustrating as every time I think I am ready to paint, after the first coat of primer it looks like a flat pin cushion and I either have to use lots of filler primer or more filler. At the moment I am using U-Pol easy sand body filler, which I thought was a good brand?
  16. Bloody hell, just got back from the Middle East and you have changed it to plasticine!!! The Palestinians couldn't help even after paying a hefty ransom.
  17. I have taken the rails off the seats already.
  18. I have had the Recaro seats for some time now, I got them off DT4 from the OC and they are in pretty good condition, the seat rails however came from another source, and although they work perfectly well, I suspect that at some time that have been fitted to a car that has had a wet carpet as the bottom runner is somewhat rusty, surface rust only. trouble is that they are fixed items and I dont see how I can take them apart without destroying them, removing the rust isnt a problem, I will just bath them in rust eater, but how do a Paint/powder coat them again afterwards? Has anyone done this before....need some help please. many thanks Nial
  19. See, all sensible suggestions. The sensible voice in my head is saying 205' the retro enthusiast in me is screaming 165. The bank balance is screaming.....that's it, just screaming.
  20. As much as I like Ians 165, and the work on it is great, I would spend too much time making it standard again, unpainting what has been painted in the engine bay etc and if i had a 165 it would have to be white....call me fussy. 205 wise, anything but silver or yellow
  21. I am looking to buy myself another GT4, a working one this time, I have been looking around and what is currently available 205 wise is either in bad condition, too modified, or overpriced. So I started looking at 185s, cheap as chips, but then again I always wanted a 165. Now I am stuck on which one to buy? I have two 205s, neither of them are working, ones a donar car, the other is a project car in early stages. The trouble is I miss driving the faff so I need another GT4 to apease the gods of adrenalin. which to buy? anyone have a heads up on any for sale, I have checked out the current Pistonheads, gumtree and autotrader offerings, GT4OC, here of course, a couple take my fancy and come pay day if they are still available I might bight the bullet and put in a cheeky offer. Do I go Standard 185 and keep it standard (there arnt many left) or make it standard if it isnt already. Buy a potentially troublesome 165 Buy a 205 and keep/.make it standard (again there arnnt that many which are standard) or buy a 185 and make it look like a CS?
