Hi
Bit of a stupid question, I have a set of gen 7 standard 16" alloys that had a bit of a bodge refurb done on them the finish was so poor I no longer want to put them on the car and just want rid fast as they are taking up space.
I've never scrapped anything and am not even sure what to look for / where to take them. What should I be searching for, scrap yard? How much should I be expecting for them and will they take them with tyres?
I'm located in the newcastle area if anyone wants a cheap set of 4
Thanks for all the replies it's really helpful to know how much I should be paying for this
I really appreciate the offers to help me do it myself hopefully i'll get to chat to you both at the North East meet
Hartlepool is a lot closer to me than Blackpool I'm in Gateshead
If that's a genuine offer I might have to take you up on it, are you coming to the North East meet?
I think Martin might live a little far away i'm in the Newcastle area does anybody know where he is based?
Thanks for the replies though might end up waiting for springs if they are going to cost that much
Hi
I plan on fitting (having fitted) new disks, pads, hoses, springs and drop links (anything i'm missing there?) on a 140 gen 7
I thought i'd check with my nearest garage for a quote, I will be providing my own parts so this is for fitting only
£120 for disks, pads, hoses
£180 for springs and drop links
£118 for a full alignment
Does this seem reasonable, I think it seems a little steep?
Partly the reason I didn't do mine myself..
And my success rate with doing anything car wise so far has been zero!
Anyone got a lagoon blue gen 7 with white standards? Not seen any pictures anywhere
Think I might need to get it lowered before I get them put on though
I managed to pick up a cheap set of original gen 7 5 spoke alloys from a member on here
I intended to get them refurbished in white and was recommended a garage in Birtley, north east
The guy has just recently started doing alloys and he's had them for a couple of weeks as I was in no rush
They should be ready to pick up tomorrow but he has a few photos on Facebook here https://www.facebook.com/BSpokeWheels
The guy seems really canny and they were cheap too at £25 a wheel
No part worns at the garage I was hoping to use
Cheapest they had was £65 fitted but they were new and had to be ordered in
Might just have to see if I can get my refurbs hurried along!
I'll probably not even be able to get the center caps off to be honest!
Total last straw, but when you wake up the next day knowing you can't drive to work and you look out the window and everything's covered in snow it sends you over the edge!
Queue next stupid question
Wheels contain the following numbers (apparently)
225/40 r18 88
0222823
0225206 -s
t0609 050ayz
jhh1008
Guessing the first one is what I need to tell the tyre place
I truly am useless with this stuff like, but suppose you need to start to learn somewhere!
This may or may not make you laugh, but last night when I was hunting under the carpet for no reason I realised my boot struts didn't work in the cold as my boot bashed me on the head!
There are two little plastic compartments left and right under boot carpet left one has the arm thing to wind up the jack but theres no jack or socket arm grr
And now everything is covered in snow
Happy days
Thanks for the advice, very much appreciated
Going to investigate what's in the boot
Annoyingly there is no jack, can I use any jack? From a friends car or something?
Is there a specific place you need to put the jack on a gen 7?
I know this must sound like a really stupid question but ive never had the need to do this!
Is it likely to buckle under the weight of the car just resting on the drive until I get it sorted? If so any suggestions on how to help it out?
What a pain
Just been for a walk and found a part worn tyre garage close by, closed today though
I wouldnt mind buying a tyre off ebay but by the time it arrives my refurbs will probably be done
How far can you drive on a flat the tyre garage is only about a 2 minutes drive, tyre has deflated completely since I pumped it up this morning so must be pretty bad!
So last night I drove home perhaps half a mile and noticed the car was pulling to the right
When I got home I checked my wheels and the front right was totally flat
Checked them out again this morning in the light hoping I might just be able to pump it up
However looking round the circumference of the wheel it's totally ruined (looks cracked all the way round, certainly doesn't look safe)
The problem is I just took my full set (including spare) to a refurb place yesterday so I have nothing to replace it with
I don't really want to buy a brand new tyre as the alloys I have on now are 18" and I'm putting the standard 16" back on after they are refurbed
I know as I type this that it is an extremely long shot but would anyone in or around gateshead/newcastle area really love to help me out??!!
