  1. Not had chance yet mate. Considering banging the front ferodo pads that came with them on ebay & getting some red or yellow stuff instead.

They sell you discs and pads matches for a reason, considering you have been having problems with the EBC stuff binning the Ferodos for EBC just seems counter productive.

Ferodos are a very good pad, I personally rate them over EBC any day, the only down side is they can be a bit dusty. Dorris

  2. If i were to replace my EBC discs with the Mtec ones, would it be wise to change the greenstuff pads too,

or will the pads be fine with the new discs?(Only reason i ask is that theres loads of wear left on the pads)

    Cheers

Yes its always good practice to change pads and discs together but not necessary but personally id junk the EBC green pads. Dorris

  3. Sounds like wrapped discs, brand new discs can wrap within a couple of miles if there is a fault, make sure all your callipers and pistons move freely.

I’ve never been a fan of EBC Green its not a pad id be using for a Celica, they have a very high Kevlar content for ecological reasons.

For driving Miss daisy they are find but soon as you resemble anything near aggressive braking then the heat becomes to much for the Kevlar, once that happens the heat keeps rising and this is passed on to the disc so causing wrapping. Dorris

  4. ST185 & ST182 (Facelift) front disc dimensions are, Diameter 277mm, Width 25mm, Height 47mm, Bore 54mm with a single piston sliding calliper.

ST205 front disc dimensions are, Diameter 315mm, Width 32mm, Height, 58mm, Bore 55mm with 4 piston opposing callipers.

As for mounting bolt dimensions I don’t have them to hand. Dorris

  5. When buying a GT4 you should always do your homework, be prepared to take your time and be prepared to travel to find the best you can.

Buy a good one it will put a smile a mile wide on your face buy a bad one and it will cost a mortgage and become a driveway ornament. Dorris

  6. To be honest in all my years I have never come across a bleed nipple that is to short, as long as the thread is the same it will seal providing the mating tapers are in good condition.

You can get some nipples with a plastic coating on the threads this is to top both fluid seeping up or air being drawn down past the threads when bleeding. How many times have you or have you seen people bleeding brakes and have a constant stream of bubble coming up the bleed tube? This isn’t necessary air in the system but air being drawn in past the treads, normally caused by undoing the bleed nipple too much. Dorris

  7. Makes it a bit of a bugger if your trying to sell a car. It's a big hard to sell a car without tax these days!

The girl friend was selling her fiat towards the end of last year, it was taxed and not insured for about 6 months and we never heard a dickey bird, if your vehicle is not SORNed you will more likely get a fine for that then not having insurance. Dorris

  8. Does look dodgy especially when he says quick sale, I just wonder if the so called front ball joints are actually the more expensive super strut problems that the 205s suffer from, also there is no proof its a genuine WRC either. Am I getting cynical in my old age? Dorris

  9. I've made plates in the past with the club web address on them, I believe the name of the company who has created the plates must be on the bottom by law so the authorities have a point of contact if the plates are illegal but I’ve never know it to get past the driver / owner of the vehicle to get done, as long as the plates look sensible I don’t think it matters what you have on the bottom. For years I had "Up ya bum!" on the bottom of one of my bike plates, always broke the ice and caused a giggle or two lol. Dorris

  10. The head gasket (HG) is gasket that sits between the cylinder head and the block.

On the Gen 5s they are made from a fabric material, both mating surfaces have to be dead flat, can't remember the tolerance of the top of my head. They are not something that can be serviced and the reasons they fail can vary, the most common is over heating caused by another problem causing the aluminium cylinder head to wrap and distort, this breaks the seal between the head and the block so allowing the cylinder pressures to escape into the coolant or oil systems.

As for symptoms the common ones are lots of white steam from the exhaust, coolant expansion tank pressurising and blowing out coolant or oil being forced in to the air box as the oil system pressurises. Another symptom can be mayonnaise like substance within the radiator as the coolant and oil mixes but this can also be caused by short journeys and excessive condensation within the oil.

If it is the HG I'm afraid there is no easy fix, it's a partial engine strip, cylinder head off, mating surfaces will need to be checked and probably skimmed flat again and a rebuild. You can get metal head gaskets but these can be expensive for an aftermarket part and no benefit to a normally aspirated engine like the Gen 5 Yamaha 3SGE engines. Hope this helps, Dorris.

  11. A bit of a tough one to say per month but I am restoring and modding the GT4 and a quick calculation off the top of my head, my engine rebuild alone is costing me around £800 so far and that’s with finding deals online.

As for the rest of the car that also is going to get the same sort of treatment so trying not to think to much about cost. Dorris

  12. my caldina gt-t brakes now and then go hard and donot work propley and when that happens the car pulls to 1 side when you brake. and i noticed yesterday the front passenger wheel and the back drivers side wheel was hot, does any 1 know what may be the cause ???

This is just a case of keeping your brakes services, my advice is to get them off the discs one at a time, clean them with a brush and some soapy water and make sure all your pistons and pins are free but check for disc warping when done, this will be noticeable by a vibration or peddle pump when applying the brakes. Dorris

  13. It seams these days that carbon fibre is becoming more readily available for us mere mortals so I was just wondering if Santa could bring you anything carbon fibre for your car what would it be and I’m not talking about the carbon wrap stuff either.

Personally id like some front splitter or maybe a CF tailgate (couldn’t believe how heavy a Gen 5 tail gate is when you take the struts off :( )

Love to know your thoughs and ideas, Dorris

  14. ah i left in mar 08, never did make it over to the kart club, too busy working all the time.

Notice your at North Luffenham, at the camp? you know any of the RAF Japple lot?

We live down in the village, I am based at Wit but currently on all my final leave etc we occasionally hear the thumps and bangs from the barracks as 5131 have fun blowing things up. D

  15. Dorris agreed about the rally stages, used to rally the landie up the side of kent mountain all the time, lol, when were you there in 08?

Second half of the year got back 1 Nov was working over at the Mighty Snow and Ice, I took over the running of the Kart club workshop whilst I was down there bit of a mess. I remember my last 6 weeks was nothing but blue skies so a nice finish to my last OOA im out in May. Dorris
