  1. there was a gen 5 gt4 light weight version. think it was only an import thing, JDM only option. have only ever heard of 2 in the uk and know one of them was scrapped. dont know what happened to the other. dont no what the designation for it was but it was a narrow body, no sun roof, manual windows, steel wheels and a few other things you only got on this one model.

That was the ST185 GT4 Rally, no frills indeed. Dorris

  2. Id say the CS/RC and Rally Group A would come under that bracket, yes 5000 where ever made which may sound a lot but in the greater scheme of things that’s nothing when you consider some manufacturers will produce that in less then a month and do a production run of hundreds of thousands.

What you have to remember is the UK CS not RC are the only right hand drive CS as all the others where left hand drive and at the last count there are less then a hundred left now.

Another rare beast will be the GT4 Rally. Dorris

  3. 99% of these problems are caused by short journeys exaggerated by the cold weather.Basically the engine isn’t getting hot enough to steam off the moisture that naturally happens within engines so causing condensation and when mixed with oil it results in a white creamy gunk on top of the oil. It’s easy enough to cure, make sure your oil and coolant are at the correct level and take it for a damn good run. If this is the case it’s nothing to worry about but consistent short journeys for a car with out the occasional blast isn’t good for a car or its engine. If it was head gasket you would get this gunk in the radiator filler cap, excessive steam out the exhaust when hot and an over pressurizing expansion bottle and no coolant left in the engine. 4. Couldn’t hear anything in that clip, if it was the big ends you wouldn’t be able to hear your self think so its not that however the white grey smoke says to me steam so that could be just that the engine is cold, if its up to temperature then you might have problems. What’s your coolant level like?

If it contaminated fuel then the noise you are hearing could well be pinking especially under load as you say but its really hard to tell with out being there in person. Dorris

  5. Like Tom said its all done by cam timing and cam profiles, the only thing other thing you can do is maybe makes sure all your clearances are at their lower limit, go to far and the valve wont close when up to temperature. Dorris

would using different cams just close the valve later? or would the whole cycle be changed to open later and close sooner on inlet phase?

This can be changed by using vernier cam wheels to alter the timing. Dorris

  6. Fuel will expand and contract with temperature, the more fuel youll have the more it will expand and if its full to the brim then it has to go somewhere its the nature of the beast. Take the car for a thrash for a few miles and it should settle down. I use to see it a lot with jet fuel in tankers which was less prone to expansion then perolium. Dorris

  7. The secret to doing these is cleanliness; make sure the joins of the boot are perfectly clean, de-greased and dry. Once stuck and dry, leave it for a good hour before using it.

If is going to leak it will be at one of the creases of the boot.

The problem is you only have one chance at fitting as once the grease escapes there is no chance of trying to re-glue the join. Dorris

  8. Just to add, if you do move the tank and use an alternative bottle make sure the new bottle has the same capacity to accept the same amount as the old one.

The more horse power you gain and the more you work you engine the more heat it will produce and more to expand so be aware of this and don’t forget to make sure your siphon tube reaches to the bottom of the bottle.

Why people would want to disconnect or blank off the expansion tank is beyond me, your just asking for trouble. Dorris

  9. It really isn’t a good idea to remove or cut down your expansion bottle, its there for a good reason.

As the coolant heats up it expands and the radiator cap controls the pressure and the expanded fluid is transferred to the catch tank but it doesn’t stop there.

As the engine cools and coolant contracts the excess fluid is then siphoned back in to the coolant system so keeping the coolant within the engine at its correct level.

With out this tank and open to the elements the engine will eventually and quickly run out of coolant so causing untold amounts of damage.

If you where to completely seal the system you will end up blowing a hose or radiator or what ever the weakest part of the system is and again causing all sorts of damage.

So it is important and really not a good idea to remove this tank. Dorris

  10. At the time of writing this reply I have been in the club for 2,498 days and counting, if you are unsure how long that is its 2 months short of 7 years.

I bought the CS 6 months after joining the club and we are still happily together. Dorris

  11. If your service your engine properly there is no need to flush the engine, however if you have gone years between servicings and the oil has consistency of wet paint then it would be an idea to flush it with a cheap oil of the same grade. Dorris

  12. A few years ago I was asked by my boss to try one of these DIY kits to see what sort of result we could get and to be honest it was a waist of time and money, you will be better off contacting a windscreen repair company, they will tell you what companies they deal will directly and what excess if any you will pay, 9 out of 10 insurance companies wont charge for repairs due to the cost of a new screen and they will repair it at a time and place of your convenience.

We just had our Avensis done by a guy in Tesco’s car park took about 15 minutes and didn’t cost a penny just one signature and that was it, from what you have described with the front of the car being peppered in chips this will be caused by high speed driving i.e. motorway type driving and normally built up over a long period, you will be amazed at how much energy it takes to chip or crack a wind screen.

For the sake of a lot of messing about and cost my advice would be ring your insurance company or ring a repair company direct and see what they say. Dorris

  13. If I’m right you are running that standard head gasket you got off me plus you’ve had the head skimmed. Have you tried a few drops of oil down your bores when you did the compression test, its either going to be ring/bore or cam/valve issue, what state where your bores and pistons in? Dorris

  14. did u know, most riders wearing 1 piece suits wear a undersuit, like a king size babygrow, or is that just me :)

That’s just you, good old faithful T-shirt for me but bikes do get a hard time for pipe, plates and dark visors. You only have to go to a big bike meet somewhere and the police and DVLA are out in force making a packet in fines and try to catch them out.

Just a matter of interest a free wheeling chain driven motorbike with the engine off produces 86db and max limit for race bikes is anything up 105db depending on the track.

I know for the iphones you can down load a db app which is very accurate so if you’re wondering how load you are you can use that but make sure you don’t get sound reflection off walls etc. Dorris

  15. Hi guys one for the managment is there a way you can delete your profile?

Basically I was helping the girl friends brother set up a profile to join the club but the wrong info has been put in so when we went to redo the profile it says we cant as the email address is being used, can someone help, cheers Dorris

  16. Mek. I think you are worrying over nothing.

My settlements too, if you had an injector down and not atomising it would be very obvious the engine would be difficult to start, miss fire and will feel very flat.

Not idea who told you that if the oil goes black after a thousand miles but I think they been sniffing something they shouldn’t, depending what came out and what residue is left in the engine oil can go black near on instantly, as long as you stick to the routine maintenance and don’t let any faults escalate then your engine will go for many, many miles.
