  1. I'm 23 and I am an IT Trainer, I have had 4 Celicas (5 if you include one I bought up to try fix). Have been driving Hyundai Coupes before then, bought my first Celica as have always loved the look of them and it was the fastest thing I could insure at the time, so as soon as I could, I did :) My ST205 was by far the most troublesome Celica I owned but also the best due to the brute power :D

The funny thing is if you saw me in the street you probably would never think I was a massive petrol head and work on cars constantly on my drive. I have no idea where my love for cars came from, my dad couldn't care less about cars and most of my friends either don't drive or don't own a car. I have to admit the Celica has served me well but I am looking for something faster now.

Oh and I live in the land of lift :)

  2. So after using the ebay ones for 6 months I can report that they hadn't fallen off or anything but today I finally got around to replacing them with decent ones from Euro Car Parts. The fit was brilliant and the quality difference was unbelievable! Look at the difference:

The car feels so much better to drive too! reduced body roll, reduced understeer and the slight clunk from the back has gone too.

Moral of the story is. Buy cheap, buy twice.

  3. I've seen first hand the work from mij, if you want to get overcharged for poor quality work then that's the place for you. I wouldn't take my car there if my exhaust fell off outside the place

Couldn't agree more, I went there once with my first ever Celica, they treated me like crap, I wanted a custom backbox, they cut the little post backbox box off and just welded a straight pipe in place with a tip! Charged me a fortune too, and when I complained they were basically having a go at me saying I wasted their time and just didn't want to know!!

  4. I fitted a full set of 4 drop links front and rear I bought off ebay when installing my apex springs, the fronts are fine. However the studs for the rear ones aren't long enough meaning the nut doesn't quite go on enough. It is secure and fine but it doesn't go on enough to make use of the nyloc on the nut.

Can anyone recommend a set of good and cheap rear links?

    Thanks

  5. I had this exact same problem the other day, my car was missing a splash shield so water got onto the filter and it rusted on. I gave it a blast of plus gas, gave it a few taps with a hammer, stabbed a screwdriver through it and it broke loose eventually after a few sharp whacks. Replacement splash cover fitted, hopefully won't have the same problem next time.

  6. 205/45 will be fine for a 7" rim

    215/40, or 215/45 will be fine for a 7", or 7.5" rim

    225/40, I think you'll struggle to find

If you dropped all the way down to the 215/40 size, you would find the ride much harsher, but acceleration would be noticeably better.

    HTH :)

Kev, do you think there will be a difference in acceleration between 205/45 and 215/45? (this is for me now :P)

  7. Iv just did some calculations. Your car from stock would of come with 195/65/14 or 205/55/15 tyres.

Either way, if your changing to 17" wheels, to keep the total wheel diameter as close to stock as possible (fixing your speedo issue)

    The tyres you should use:

205/45/17 or 215/40/17 or 225/40/17 depending on how wide your wheels are

  8. Are you comparing this to a sat nav speedo? Car speedos are always calibrated slower by around 5-10% So usually if your speedo says 70, sat nav usually says 65 ish.

If your circumference is bigger than stock then the speedo would be out. Try going down a size? Maybe 225/40?

Going up to 225/50 would make the speedo be more slow as it would be a bigger circumference, meaning your actually traveling more than the speedo thinks

    According to this calculator:

    http://tire-size-conversion.com/speedometer-calibration/

If you went from 225/45 to 225/40 at 70mph (speedo reading) your actual speed would be 67.52 meaning if you went down to 225/40 tyres you would make the speedo slightly faster than the actual speed.

  9. I see, had a look today at my RSGT's on the GT4 and there actually 7JJ with 215. I always thought they were 7.5J as 215s fit so well on them. If JJ lips are larger than J then that explains why 205s looks stretched on them.

  10. Hi all,

I just bought some wheels for my gen 7. I plan to replace all the tyres on it before putting them on the car. Now my question is the wheels come with 2x 215/40/17 tyres and 2x205/45/17.

I know the stock t sport wheels are 7J and are factory fitted with 205/45/17 which is what I want to fit. However the new wheels actually say 7JJ while the t sport wheels are 7j. The 215s actually look like a better fit than the 205s, the 205s look SLIGHTLY stretched. But im not sure.....

What is the difference between 7j and 7jj? surely they both mean 7 inches wide? What would be best tyre to fit?

    Thanks
