  1. Thanks mate........you see how complicated it is? VOSA are adamant on their stance........Insurers should come in line but no doubt it will be down to individual interpretation. Personally......if I submitted my car a month before expiry and it failed i would see it as a need to rectify the faults before the due date of the original........but I would keep driving it ....unless the faults were obviously dangerous......a hole in the sill wouldn't bother me.......a defective Tyre would.
  2. That's exactly how i understood VOSA's position.......but would insurers not cover you if you had an accident after you had an early test and was failed by a brake light out......even though you were on your way to buying one? I'm just playing devils advocate!
  3. TBH that's how I see it too.....but I am sure there are many who think they have a month grace to get it sorted.
  4. This may have been covered before so please forgive me if it has.......... There seems to be a grey area when taking an MOT a month earlier than the expiry of your last MOT. If it fails it appears that VOSA and the Insurance industry are taking different views. VOSA are saying that the original MOT is valid for the full term of the existing MOT.... but.... Insurers are saying if it has been submitted for an MOT and fails the car is not roadworthy and would not be covered. This could lead to a claim not being covered..... Does anyone know the certainty of this?
  5. The product is called "Holts damp start".............it laquers the leads and cap etc. so that moisture can't penetrate. Back in the day it was a very common Toyota problem once the leads were a few years old........wouldn't start first thing in the morning but once you got it started it would start the rest of the day....then next morning misfiring! A spray of that cured it for months. It might not be anything to do with that but perhaps you only had trouble now the weather is changing? Especially if you don't use it every day.......
  6. Your leads could be absorbing water or condensation overnight.....means a weak and erratic spark to the plugs that cures itself if you do get it started by drying out with the heat from the engine once it's running. Then it re-ocurrs the next day if it's been damp....... A spray of ignition lacquer seals the leads for a very long time........not WD40!
  7. I used to do that with Dunlop A2's ......they were a dry gravel tyre but superb on tarmac once they wore down a little......and when they were almost out of tread we used to cut a few grooves in to keep the Police happy! Those were the days!!
  8. From a Toyota mechanic says it all........
  9. Andy........it predates your time at Airedale! We all used it in our rally cars back in the day. I rolled the Celica on a rally and whilst it was upside down we lost the oil.....we obviously didn't carry any so just carried on.......for about 25 or so hard driven miles before it put a rod through the block.....in a Big way! I think it would have happened much sooner without Slick but who knows?
  10. "doubt its a hydraulic issue or it would be getting worse by the day" Hmmm.......Kitti says it started recently and is getting worse..........would be easy to tell if we were sat in the car!!
  11. It does sound to me like it's the clutch not disengaging fully........... It sounds like you are "dragging" it out of one gear in to another........if the master or slave cylinder is on it's way out then it won't push the rod fully to disengage the clutch.....this means the car is almost still in drive when you try to change gear and it "sticks" in the gear it's in rather then releasing it nicely and allowing you to engage the next gear. It's very easy to check if the pushrod is operating correctly as others have said previously..........worth checking first! Good luck!
  12. It's amazing how many lusted after a Celica but the time wasn't right and yet when it was you still hankered after one! Usually time kills the passion...... Briano.....that's obsessive compulsion disorder of the highest magnitude! 7 or 8 Celica's!!
  13. You made the right choice mate.........a cruise would just be distant memories by now........you are still enjoying your car!
  14. It's hard to believe that car sat in a field! Great job on restoring!
  15. The Sherv......."But we get there"...........we do indeed! That car looks fabulous! another one rescued from the grave......well done mate!
  16. Great story! I too love rear wheel drive......it's what I grew up with! Lot's of Celica love from you guys! Mine was a midlife crisis too...aided by the fact that if I didn't do it now there wouldn't be any Gen 1's left to do! My eldest son had a Jap import GT4 for a short time......it went really well and I loved driving it but it was a bag of shit really! It had a load of odd bits on it and was always breaking something....he got rid in the end. My youngest son had a Gen7 Celica for about a year.....nice comfy car and great on the motorway.
  17. You know Arizona.........not much has changed! Back then they were noted for reliability but suffered bodily........so people just ran them until they failed the MOT or didn't do something they should! Glad you got your money's worth..........and more! Joe.....great read! I know what you mean about "lesser" cars...... Back in the 70's I was with a bunch of mates that went scuba diving. One weekend a friend asked if it would be ok to bring someone from his work along......we all said no problem. I was driving a Rover 2000 at the time and we had Austin 1100's, a Landrover and a Triumph 1500 amongst us.........and this guy drove up in a spaceship! A Celica! It had a rev counter!! An oil gauge!! It looked like it came from the future! I had to have one! About 3 weeks later MPP 592L came in as part exchange to the non Toyota garage I worked at and she was mine!! And from her I visited the local dealer for parts and finally got a job there...........
  18. I came to Celica's in the 70's when I was a Toyota mechanic.......and it kind of stuck with me......but I'm realising that they made other Celica's besides generation one's!!! So.......please tell me how and why you came across the Celica or Celica's you are driving now! Don't worry........I have woke up to the fact that they made others besides mine! Is it love or lust??
  19. Something very strange happened up here in Scottyland last week! Out of the mist and drizzle I saw this huge glowing ball appear in the sky......it lasted about 3 mins.......and the temp rose a little right before it disappeared in the gloaming........not seen that before................so i set off roaming in the gloaming looking for it!
  20. It's a huge string to have to your bow! The final spraying is easy.........everything is in the preparation.....the best sprayer in the world can't cover poor filling and sanding......it will still show! Just make sure it's right before you spray and it will come out ok......a bit of wet sanding and buffing will make it shine like the best of them.
  21. Happy Anniversary BrianGT!
