  1. I would choose goodyears.

Just put a set of eagle F1's on my Honda and they feel excellent. The roads were soaking wet the last couple of days with all the storms but I never once felt any loss of grip, so much better than the budgets that were on it before. The temperature has not dropped lower than about 10 degrees yet so I'll have to wait and see what they are like when it's cold, although I work mostly from home so rarely need to venture out in snow.

  2. If you go on black circles website you can get their quality/value tyres in 205/45/17 for around £50 but it doesn't mention a brand, they will be a budget tyre. For £70ish you can get kumhos and falkens which are a good choice. They also offer the option of payment over 12 months which might put better tyres within your reach.

  3. Or tyreleader.co.uk

Seems to depend what you are looking for in terms of size and brand. Also if you buy online make sure you have somewhere local that will fit them for a fair price or you could wipe out any savings.

Black circles are very good and there is no hassle. I had problems with one of their fitting centres a couple of years back when my alloy was damaged but they paid for the wheel to be refurbed after a couple of emails. I found their customer services great to deal with.

  4. Looks good but it doesn't mention the DOT code. In the info provided it says available from July 2013 so the tyres may be a couple of years old. When I looked on tyreleader they have the kumhos listed at £61 but also at £55 for DOT 2012. Black circles are £73 fitted at a local centre.

I'm shopping for tyres at the moment and have kumhos all round on the car. They are good value and have lasted well, also I've been very happy with the level of grip in both wet and dry. They are a bit noisy though.

  5. Budget tyres certainly are popular amongst the genral public who presumably only care about cost. I always look closely at tyres when I see high performance cars out and about and more often than not they are shod with budget rubber.

The other day I went to look at a civic type r out of interest. Nice car on a 57 plate in immaculate black with low miles and full Honda history. It was wearing a full set of 'evergreen' tyres. No doubt named because you will end up in a tree!

  6. I do think it's admirable that you would want to sort this problem for him but at the end of the day the guy bought a 2nd hand engine on eBay. To the best of your knowledge it was fine when it was in your car. You don't know anything about the person who installed the engine in his car, absolutely anything could have gone wrong.

I would email him with suggestions given above but at the end of the day it's really not your problem.

  7. Do you mean the rear tyres are worn unevenly?

It's very common for them to wear more on the inner edge sometimes causing them to make a noise similar to knackered wheel bearings. One solution is to rotate them regularly with the fronts.

    What tyres do you have?

  8. £20 a tyre for fitting is a rip off. Last time I ordered a set of 4 online they cost me £10 each to fit at a local tyre shop. It's more hassle doing it that way though. I wonder if garages are wising up to people buying tyres cheap online and maybe starting to charge more for fitting?

  9. I've just come back from a weeks holiday where we hired a brand new fiesta. I was looking forward to it because the motoring press are always on about how great the fiesta is to drive. Now it seems that great to drive means easy to drive. You sit high with a great view and all the controls are so heavily assisted that it's like driving a feather. I think it was a 1.2 and there was a time in the late 90's where the 1.2 fiesta had loads of zip but it's now totally inadequate in the new car. Anyone who thinks a gen7 is gutless should drive one of these!

Most new cars are great for people who just want a car and don't really care about driving. They don't require you to do anything at all. When we got back I even enjoyed the drive back from the airport in my gf's Hyundai i10 which has more feel to it and more go with the same 82bhp power output. Imagine how much I'm looking forward to my celica fix this morning!
