As above RS3's tick all the boxes, loved them on the celica and they perform just as well on the Impreza - i won't be buying anything else.
(and no, Uniroyal are not my sponsor lol)

Another vote for the rainsport 3's here
They are simply incredible in the wet - how often are the roads properly icy that winter tyres are truly effective? Most often than not the roads are gritted and end up a wet slush so a wet weather tyre makes more sense. Unless of course you are out where the roads are not treated as often in which case a dedicated cold weather tyre would be the more sensible option.
Just the way my brain works

Sent you a PM with a same side entrance / exit cooler - will be slightly smaller but you'll struggle to get something of those exact dimensions unless you get one custom made for you ( £££'s )
-
Try wearing latex gloves when you're fitting them so you don't contaminate the glass with oil/salt from your fingers.
Might find they last a lot longer when fitted perfectly clean

I know Lee @ Se7en said before with regards to an incomplete Blitz S/C kit that was up for sale that he could source the missing parts (idler pulleys and brackets and more i'm sure it needed) he could well be your first port of call. Pretty sure if he can't get them then he'll know someone who can
-
I did consider the GT86, actually for a good while i was set on getting one - but current prices and other things got in the way.
Now though i doubt i'll get near one, unless Gibby brings his round wanting something done to it
-
If you are using the stick on shims then be sure to have some ceratec too to smear along the top and bottom edges of the pads where they sit in the caliper or are in contact with the anti-squeal spring that is in some models.
The two things combined will REDUCE the squeal but it'll will still give the odd chirp now and then. I never got the chance to try the metal shims from the states - would imagine they'd be an improvement over the stick ons.
-
There are 4 bleed nipples as the calipers are universal for many applications so may end up fitted either way around requiring there to be bleed nipple top and bottom

Get it changed just now Ger as you might end up with the rivets showing on the clutch plate and marking the face of the flywheel - will change the simple swap to have to remove the flywheel and have it resurfaced
-
the pipe like "half a square" if it goes to a nipple (titter) at the front right corner of the intake manifold them leave it alone as long as the open end it's blanked off - it's a vacuum line that goes from the intake manifold to the secondary air injection.
Well that's if i'm deciphering your messages correctly lol

All clips on headlight broke, hole in bumper, passenger wing pushed back, down and out, front panel pushed over towards driverside, hard to see in pics but it's all rather squidgy.
Stated it would need to be put on jig to be realigned properly and that's where the expense comes in long before the price of parts - was valued at a lot more than £1500
Just glad i had no unsecured car parts in the back as with my luck i would not have gotten away as lightly as Danny!
And yeah, a Beams MR2 is a dream machine - prefer a tin top though as it's not as wobbly as the T-Bar!!
-
Jeez-o , glad you're ok from that!
I had similar on the same day but a lot less dramatic -
Looks like nothing, but the general jiggling of the panels means the chap doing the quote at the repair centre (had to go there as the other party was kind enough to call his insurer after we'd agreed to sort it between ourselves ) initially has estimated that it'll be uneconomical to repair. Still awaiting confirmation though.
Crazily enough i was looking at MKII's aswell - would love another as i had several in the past
Couple of decent ones up just now that are reasonable - R plate silver one has my attention
-
Are any of you using any coil / lead upgrades at all? I cant stress how much of a difference the Splitfires made to the RB25 engine!
As said about you can't really get upgraded leads as the 2zz used coilpacks the connect directly to the sparkplug.
In saying that though i do recall seeing upgraded coil packs with the usual "claims" Nology or something was the name - were horrendously expensive. This has got my attention again so i'll do a quick search and edit in a link if i can locate anything
Edit - ok it was Nology it was Plasma Direct -

Not available but did lift some info from OkadaProjects site -
Celica // 2000-2005 // L4 // 1.8L // ZZT231 // 2ZZ-GE // Coil-Over Plug // Directs // PD4003702R // $1,295.00
Seemingly only UK supplier are these guys - http://www.ca-int.co.uk/ and they show on 2015 pricing as £679.99 for a set
Other than those i've seen nothing.
-
I had 55w in my FTO and they did dazzle oncoming traffic (were in projector units) so i've stuck with 35w in my dipped on the celica and put the 55w in the full beam on the celica - nice and BRIGHT for blasting along back roads in the dark when oncoming traffic isn't an issue
-
I put reasonable offer in and the guy said it didn't cover the price he paid to import it.
Oddly enough it's a bodyshop / repair place selling it and the rear bumper has had the black bit of plastic trim along it painted . . . . . just saying lol
-
Had properly drilled discs once - never again.
Set of Brembo Golds on MKII 16v Golf with mintex pads - discs were radially cracked and split within months of fitting.
Certainly weren't cheapos - Brembo put it down to the pad not being suitable (well they couldn't blame their own product!).
Long story short wouldn't touch them again - if i'm honest when the grooved front discs i currently have fitted need replaced it'll just be plain discs from now on!!
-
Still say a MKII MR2 - try finding a genuine beams engined one for sale . . . . .
Ok, now you're back after that fruitless search other things to consider -
insurance, technically it's still a 3-sge engine with same capacity so only really need to update the log book to new block number. No exhorbitant premiums for über modified small shopping trolleys.
Handling - the SW20 is built to house this block so will easily still be sweet to drive once you swap it in.
Ease of the actual swap - same as handling really, it's meant to be in there so more the electrical side just needing doing rather than engine mounts, Frankenstein driveshaft / gearbox configs.
-
Just my opinion of course
-
Always look for an oil with a minimum of SL rating and it "should" be perfectly fine in the car (SM and SN being newer better (perhaps lol))
This oil does have the SL rating so no reason it shouldn't be perfect in the 2zz as the engine was designed before this oil was rated!
-
MkII MR2 - Toyota did already put that engine in there on a very few incredibly rare cars. At least that way you could pick up a a t-bar shell and have a great summer cruiser
-
They've only covered maybe 1,500 miles so far so no adverse affect on the tread, the falken ziex 914's on the rear for a good 20k didn't suffer tread lift either. Only tyres I've had that done that were the pirrellis that were in the car when I bought it / wouldn't entertain those ever again!!
-
But doesn't less rolling resistance = less grip?
Not necessarily - different tread pattern (directional vs assymetrical vs mix) will give different grip/resistance, tie that in with differing rubber compound and can get different values too.
Can buy really cheap nasty tyres that offer terrible grip and poor economy rating for example.
-
Did you notice any difference in actual fuel economy?
Think there may be a little improvement - the Falkens on before were not the greatest! Certainly quiter running (whether thats down to R17 45's compared to R18 35's you can decide).
To be honest i've not been driving it very economically to notice a difference - feels too light and fun not be throwing about right now!!
-
Or you could find a scrapper and resurrect it like i did to get mine :xmas_cool:

I've just fitted a set of rainsport3's - went for the XL rated as they gave same grip but scored higher on the fuel economy rating!

Would struggle to buy anything else for any car now - only faults with RS3's are the wear rate (if you're sore on them in the dry) and the sidewalls can be spongy unless you opt for the XL variant.
Never had any of the unfortunate issues that you've experienced though (touch wood) so it definitely sounds like bad on your part,
