  1. My Celica outside the tennis courts at Nantwich this morning.

    SAM_0839.jpgSAM_0838.jpg

The next challenge is : Your Celica next to something with a connection to the Diamond Jubilee.

This is a very wide ranging challenge as it could be the Queen's Head pub, a Union Jack, even a UK postage stamp !!!!!

a nice young blonde in a white short tennis skirt

That reminded me of a brochure I've got (Sunchaser by Tropic of Germany)

  2. well this one was a waste of time so in order to keep this moving along as it is a really good topic I'm changing it to something easy,

Your Celica straddling a speed hump. Just take care where you stop.

Quiet in here, isn't it !!!!!

Let's try and get this going again. My Celica straddling a speed hump on one of Crewe's many badly maintained roads :

And the new challenge will be your Celica next to a big puddle. Should be plenty of these about with the weather lately.

  3. When I reposted the train pic it was just to show it had been set before.

But seeing that the stadium one is also a previously set one, may I suggest that stands but make it a double challenge by adding a fresh challenge.

Being topical with it being 60 years since the Queen's ascension to the throne, your Celica with some royalty connection.

Use as much lateral thinking as you want, be it a mug with the Queen on it, a stamp or even parked outside the Prince of Wales pub.

  4. Yes a train has been in a previous challenge, must have been ages ago though as I had the silver Sunchaser on the road !!

Now with me being born and bred in Crewe, a town built by the railways, I feel as I must rise to this challenge :-

    apt.jpg

An InterCity APT (Advanced Passenger Train) 125 at Crewe Heritage Centre.

  5. Next challenge is your Celica next to a lawnmower (manual. electric, petrol or sit-on).

This is because I've just cut the back lawn :D:D

It's all gone quiet again in here

I thought I'd set a reasonably easy challenge but it seems I'll have to make it easier to tempt you all to get your cameras out :)

    The new amended challenge is:-

Next challenge is your Celica next to a lawnmower (manual. electric, petrol or sit-on) OR your Celica next to a lawn, back garden, piece of grass or even on a grass verge !!!

    Anybody ?? :D

  6. Your car outside your local football club's main stand

Assuming this is still a current challenge as Angus's shots were a repost from the earlier challenge, here is the Sunchaser today outside the Crewe Alexandra main stand.

  7. As has been said different people have different tastes.

When I first saw my red Sunchaser 6 years ago in the brother-in-law's drive with the hood up I had fairly much the same opinion of the reviewer in the article.

But the whole quirkiness and rarity of these cars has grown on me and the good thing is that the more people who slate and dislike Gen 2 Celicas makes them still an affordable old car unlike the silly money people are putting on 'classic' and 'collectible' Gen 1 Celicas.

    who?

    Possibly this one

    or this one

  8. OK, your Celica beside some erected scaffolding.

Today was a day off so I went in search of building sites in Crewe. This was the closest one to my house :-

    SAM_0489.jpg

Next challenge is your Celica next to a 4x4 "Chelsea Tractor", preferably a Toyota (Land Cruiser, RAV 4 etc.), but Land Rover, Range Rover, Discovery et al will all fit the bill.

  9. OK I can't find a locally sourced gypsy selling flowers on the street so just have to be the local florist.

Well done sir  I was beginning to think all the members had lost their cameras

OK, your Celica beside some erected scaffolding.

Right I'll have to keep a look-out for an erection :D:D

  10. I can vouch for this!

Infact I saw you in the Sunchaser the other week Ian at the Middlewich Street traffic lights!

You planning on attending JAPS North again?

I assume you weren't in the Gen 7 as I didn't spot you. The red Sunchaser is the everyday car at the moment so will be floating around quite a bit.

I haven't decided on a definite list of shows fot this year but JAPS North is a strong contender.

And just a quick visual warning to everyone of how Toyotaitus (Toyotaitis for the Scottish pedant !) can affect the view from your living room window

    SAM_0210.jpg

  11. Being a fellow sufferer myself I feel I should point out that this affliction can easily mutate into the much more prevalent condition of Toyotaitus.

Back in 2004 I was a normal bloke with varied interests in all sorts of cars. Then the brother-in-law asked me to collect and sell his Sunchaser. Looking back I now think he'd realised the stage he was at because as well as having owned various Toyotas he also had a Lexus. (Lexusitus ia a much rarer but very expensive offshoot of Toyotaitus).

He was emigrating to the Dominican in an effort to escape the clutches of this. (footnote: He's now realised it's even more widespread over there but is limited to mainly 4x4's)

I foolishly picked up the Sunchaser and within 6 months had bought it off him for myself.

Fast forward nearly 7 years and you'll find I now have 4 Sunchasers, a 79 Corolla Liftback and an 85 Corolla as an everyday car. The wife had until recently a 92 Corolla but being stronger than me overcame everything and now has a Corsa. The other victims in this have been my stepson who through attending various shows with me succumbed to the pressure and now has 5 MR2's. Also the last car the father-in-law had over here before he died was a Carina 2 but I think this was genetically inherited from his son Richard (the one who had the Sunchaser !!) or vice-versa.

An offshoot is I now have a large collection of various spares for my cars and way too many magazines and brochures. All in all I'm still a happy person because like Steve I believe I'm in full control of this and have no plans to buy any more cars ( not this week anyway :D ). People who think they may be affected have two great support groups in CCUK and the TEC (Toyota Enthusiasts Club).

PS Those who have met me will know all of the above is 100% true.

  12. Obviously a little too late on this one but seeing a 30-mile round trip to the stepson's house was involved you're having the pic anyway :P

    IMG_20110405_171823.jpg

His 2 bearded dragons on the bonnet of the Sunchaser ( he insisted on the blanket in case they scratched the paint - how considerate !)

Anyway as you were, back to the challenge involving a uniform :)

  13. I'm going to hold off on that one Angus and give some of the other members a chance with a currently owned Celica. Nice pic though.

    SAM_0443.jpg

Taken today so definitely a currently owned Celica !!

Next challenge is your Celica next to a 'No Parking' sign, like the type people put outside their garage entrance or similar.

  14. OK, I'll accept "No Snow". But it still has to be Car/Train/Motorbike/Bus Museum or Angler/fishing gear in boot!!

Here's one I took at Crewe's recently opened "World of Toyota Theme Garden" (a tribute to Japan's finest automobiles all in one man's back yard). :D

    SAM_0210.jpg

  15. To quote from Brian Long's Celica book:-

"On January 8th 1996, the Convertible line gained the revised front end of it's tin-top stablemates...............

At the same time, dual airbags were adopted on certain grades."

Not gospel as inaccuracies do occur in printed material but it should give an idea of the 'change'.

  16. Transport (Car/Train/Motorbike/Bus) Museum !!!

So the challenge is still on

I'm very surprised the Gen 4 boys haven't done this yet as their meet this year was at the Heritage Centre at Gaydon.

I've been through my photos and I've a shot of the red Sunchaser from 2008 in the grounds of Mouldweorth Motor Museum (just outside Chester) but the building isn't in the shot so it'd be my word against yours that it isn't just a random shot anywhere :):)

  17. Obviously picked the wrong time of year for this challenge ;):)

So I'll give it a few more days with a slight change in wording :-

Your Celica outside a fireworks shop or any shop selling fireworks with a sign to that effect.

Alright then, a picture of your Celica with a box of fireworks on it, or even just ONE firework on it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
