  1. Don't do it, mate. That combination is bordering on dangerous.

A 6.5J rim takes a 195 width tyre, and a 35 profile has very little sidewall to flex when fitted to a rim that is either too wide, or too narrow in your case.

The answer to your question is most definitely..yes.

  2. My apologies..I wasn't referring to hot hatches as competition, although of course they are, and really should have been a bit more specific. What I meant was, most new car buyers will buy a coupe because it's a new model, and fashionable to be seen driving a new shape version. Once that shape has been around for two or three years, the same new coupe buyers are then in the market for something only recently made available.

  3. Hi all,

Sorry to ask a silly question, ive had a quick search but can't find what I want.

my confusion comes from online converters saying to match my current wheels I need 205/40/r17. Which is the standard for these wheels? Does it matter?

    Thanks.

Which online converter is that?..because it's wrong.

205/45/17 is much closer to 205/50/16 than 205/40/17.

Fitting 205/40/17 will be like losing 6th gear on the dual carriageway/motorway.

215/45/17 has three slight benefits and one slight downside.

    Fills the arches slightly better

    Slightly more rim protection

    Slightly better ride

    Slightly slower acceleration

  4. I'm pretty sure it was a missprice & people have started getting cancellation emails :(

As the saying goes "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

Exactly, but it took mytyres much longer than it should to amend their error.

  5. Had a look on another alloy web site (Demon Tweeks) as I was trying to find out what size nuts I needed and if they are flat end or tapered like my stock ones, and they are also saying

    Wheel nuts/bolts

Going from running steel wheels to a set of alloys? You’re going to need new wheel bolts/nuts then (depending on what your car has fitted)! The type of fixings you use on steel wheels are not suitable for use with alloy wheels – because they’re much harder. This means that they can eventually chew through the bit of the alloy responsible for holding them to your hubs!

Didn't think wheel nuts are so complicated. I think I need M12x1.5 ? but I haven't found the lug diameter of the bolas yet. I think I will have to wait until they turn up. shame I can't use my stock ones they lasted 16 years and still perfect condition.

    Yes..it's M12 x 1.5, as per my link :)

  6. I have bought many sets of new rims over the last few years, and have never had alloy nuts supplied with them. They have all had this type of steel nut with the relevant spigot rings.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Set-of-16-M12-x-1-5-19mm-Hex-alloy-wheel-nuts-lugs-bolts-for-Ford-Cars-/151810327025?hash=item235899c1f1:g:rDMAAOSw~bFWGsn6

That is, of course, unless your new rims have small lug holes, and need the smaller "tuner" nuts.
