Or my other option which I quite like is the same the same wheels bola csr but have different offsets for the front and rear.
    Front - 17 5x100 8 ET 25
    Rear - 17 5x100 8 ET 35

From the website I used it seems to give me a decent stance with the option to get rid of the spacers both front and rear681765a0b22e9a4db41348bd32553bd5.jpgcc0fa9069b80781f2d95e81f74227554.jpg

If you can find a supplier who has stock of these Bola's in different Offsets, it is going to enable you to lose both pairs of spacers.

You are of course still going to have to compromise on tyres with the rims being 8J, as explained above.

Another thing to bear in mind, the wider the rim, the heavier the wheel, the less enjoyable the car is to drive.

Sorry if I sound negative, but as you can see, there are good reasons for me suggesting no wider than 7.5J.

    Thanks for the pictures pal.
I think I've found another option I like. They are 17 et 35 5 x100 but with 8I rather than 7.5. What do you think @Kev 16v ? Would I be good to run these? No spacers on the front and slightly wider at the rear if I put my 15mm on the back. 8ceec46e05213c36e1e2104fdf91a036.jpg3e5ddd2f6fcc98599f21ef8454041cf5.jpg

    That would create two problems.

The first one is tyres. As you cannot buy 225/40/17, your choices would be 215/45/17, or 225/45/17.

215/45/17 would be stretched on 8J (others have done it, but I wouldn't), and 225/45/17, being two sizes up from OE, increases the rolling radius as to affect acceleration. You would probably notice the car doesn't handle as well either, with such wide tyres.

An even bigger issue is wheel arch clearance with your 17mm spacers. You would have to get your rear arches rolled.

You could cut out the "middle man", and contact Rimstock direct :) That's what Tim Shaw did on Car SOS.

Agreed (I had a look for you yesterday, and could only find the JR rims at a reasonable price in bronze).

  5. 7.5J ET35 with 17mm spacers on the rear, would be almost exactly the same as your current stance (10mm difference from the spacers, minus 6.5mm from the wider rims, minus 3mm from the difference in ET).

On the front, the wheels would sit close to 7.5mm inboard (17mm spacers, minus 6.5mm, and 3mm).

The biggest problem I've had with spacers, is that the studs aren't tapered to help the wheel nut onto the stud. Thus making it much easier to cross thread.

Only consider 18's if you're far more interested in "show", than "go". You're likely to get conflicting opinions on here regarding 18's, but I can only speak from my experience.

  6. He's still knocking about I think, Jim :)

You're almost right about the Tech5 alloys, they are in fact ET38.

Firstly, why do you want to lose the spacers if you're happy with the stance?. If you want to have a good choice of replacement styles, the most common ET/Offset is 35, so just 3mm outboard of the Tech5's.

One option would be 7.5J ET35, move your 17mm spacers to the rear, and lose the front spacers (this is exactly what I'm running with 215 width tyres during the summer months). I would advise against going wider than 7.5J, as then you're into stretching the rubber, unless you fit 18" rims, which I'm absolutely dead against.

    Does that help?.

  7. 215/40 for optimum acceleration, though wider gap in the arches, speedo out, and little in the way of bump absorption.

205/45 manufacturers choice, and ideal unless fitting wider alloys such as 7.5J or 8J.

215/45 for extra comfort, slightly cheaper than OE, acceleration will be fractionally worse.

225/45 are too big as regards the rolling radius, poor acceleration, plus tram-lining issues.

  8. Just surface rust on the underside, which is typical of all Toyotas. I treat the affected areas every Autumn while the car is up on a hydraulic lift.

I have three of these, two 3.8A, and one 5A. The 5A only became available recently..

Planning on ordering 2 x 195/50/15, and 2 x 205/50/15 for the TR later today. The Yoko's probably still have 8mm of tread, just want to replace due to their age. Thanks for the "heads up" on the Toyos from Tweeks :)

  9. Is the other bigger battery a 075?

You just need to get a company such as Halfords to carry out a free battery check, and if their "print out" shows it in need of replacement, post that print out to Battery Megastore, and they will send a new battery, along with free delivery of the old battery back to them.

I hardly use the Celica since I retired back in 2009. Odometer only reading 28k

PAID20 finishes tomorrow night, and I may treat one of my cars to a pair of those Toyo TR1 tyres from Demon Tweeks :) The reviews say the side-walls are stiffer than the very soft, and now discontinued, T1R.

  10. Will an 063 fit a face lift Gen 7 width wise?. I know the correct battery is an 053. Also, aren't reviews for Lion batteries somewhat iffy?.

This is the one I was looking at yesterday..£52.79 for 430CCA..

My Hankook with 360CCA has seen better days days, but it's still under the four year warranty with Battery Megastore, otherwise I'd buy the Yuasa at that price.

  11. Looks a decent size for the money :)

On a similar theme, I've always been less than impressed with the grey fleck boot carpet in the back of the Gen 7, and the boot carpet in the Mk7 Fiesta, which was a PITA to vacuum, as with synthetic fibres, it seemed to be designed to cling onto any crap on the surface, even with the crevice tool on the end of the hose.

Spotted rolls of black automotive grade carpet at Newark Autojumble, and having parted with £5 for one roll, set about cutting to size using the OE boot carpet as a template

By far the most time consuming, was replacing the carpet on the back of the rear seats in the Gen 7 so it all matched. The top edge of the new carpet can only be seen when the seats are folded, as the parcel shelf hides the edge in normal use.

Being black instead of grey fleck, and a shorter pile, looks more expensive/upmarket, with the bonus of being dead easy to vacuum.
