  1. Nope sorry not for me that one while worthy.

    Thanks to everyone for their imput.

    Decided last night after spending ages on the trader, ebay and some insurance sites, that, really all things considered, even running a 1.0 shitbox on my budget will still only really save me £600 ish a year on fuel, tax and insurance based on my miles.

    And as my wife pointed out, the Gen 4 I want to build is in my head so aint going anywhere at present!

    So going to keep the GT, and have some celica fun. may even practice my V6 conversion on it. Who knows what next year may bring re money etc.

  2. Well the increase in fuel duty has been put off which is a help.

    I was aiming to save £100 - £150 a month, as ideally I want at least £1500 to start my gen 4 project.

    lol at waynes choices, not good on mpg sadly me thinks..

    So do I sell a celica to afford a celica or do i keep a celica that means for a while I cannot buy a celica gen 4.

    If that makes any sense.

  3. I am caught between two stones, I either stop saving for a gen 4 / project car and spend a bit more each month and keep the 6.

    Or

    take a break from shows and stuff and buy a cheapie pref an oil burner and save like mad for two years and have the funds to build what I want.

    Running two cars when the fun car is 6 gt is daft, maybe if it was a GT4 or vert, but a bog standard GT? nope No offence GT guys.

  4. Argh!

    The plan to run a GT as an everyday car is not going so well.

    Fuel economy is killing me.

    I am getting between 21 - 25 mpg on my daily commute, which is about 15 miles in stop start heavy traffic.

    Car is running fine, no issues, and yes on long gentle runs I can get mid 30s. But driving like miss daisy the entire time has made me think.

    The insurance is up soon too..

    I think my best bet is to de mod the car, sell the bits sep, get a years ticket on it, and sell it as a std car, with just over 100k on it, recent all new brakes, new exhaust and clutch plus service history should at least see me get £750 back for it.

    Question is what to replace it with, ideally I want a Toyota or at very least a Jap car, but not a lot floats me boat.

    Tried A puma, loved driving it, but too small.

    Ideas guys? I wanted a gen 6 to replace my 4, but realise now that my heart rulled my head, I cannot ignore the money I am sticking into the tank! I want some fun behind the wheel and driving everywhere for max mpg to eek out every litre is not it.

    I want 3drs ideally, decent size boot, and mpg of at least 30mpg in urban conditions, with a bit of driver fun thrown in.

    I went in person a factors called mr exhaust in Wolverhampton, and choose my front pipe, Cannot recommend them enough, strayed late back for me and charged me only trade price, £55 for it! Mr t wanted over £250!! for gawds sake

    just finished fitting it, apart from a slight blow at the back box which I will fix saturday, its all good... fitted like a glove!

    I now thanks to one broken front pipe, have an all new exhaust from manifold gasket back lol, bar a used cat from Nix.

    I will explain why i was getting wrong parts tomorrow, off to have a can of coke and a bag of chips.

    I am stuck up the creek without my car.

    the front downpipe on my car was shagged, so I got a second hand one from an ebayer breaker.

    went to fit it sunday after taking the rest of the exhaust off, and despite the guys promises, it was crap.

    My fault for trusting the guy.

    anyhow I did not think it would take days to find a new front pipe for my car..

    I was wrong, no motor factors in birmingham have any.

    I got one online from click car parts, shower of shit, its the wrong part!!

    The old exhaust was in bits so I am stuck with no exhaust on my car, and facing taking unpaid leave which I can ill afford to try and resolve this.

    Has anyone got a front pipe for a GT in good nick I can buy in the west mids area?

    I have use of a car for tomorrow, so could pick up tomorrow night?

  7. weird.

    I got out of a gen 4 GT4 for cash reasons, got a puma, loved it, but it wasn't a Celica, got a gen 6 GT and today sold my puma for £865...

    I did look at the cougar, but..

    Engine issues, they drink a fair bit of oil, and the fact that they dont hold any value at all put me off. The one I sat in also had pretty poor build quality too.

    Not driven a gen 7, but my gen 6 does like a fair bit of revs before going. compared to the puma, which is short geared and nippy but runs outa puff high up the speed range the gen 6 is the opposite.

    My gen 6 is totally stock at present, its a little crashy on the ride, brakes strongly, it grips well although its harder to play with the car on the throttle in the corners, stock anyway, its a very safe but maybe lacking in total fun factor chassis set up.

    Engine is great top end, it gathers speed well with its longer ratios, I like the interior although its a bit black. great driving position, decent space inside. I am doing around 28mpg at present, but thats due to blow on the exhaust, I expect that to rise to early 30s for urban driving once all sorted.

  8. I have come from a gt4 to a Gt.

    okay so it was a gen 4, but it was a proper GT4..

    The cars are worlds apart, the power, the delivery, the stabilty and the traction.

    But run one on a limited budget and it really really helps to be handy with the spanners tbh. Or know some one who is.

    But they are fantastic cars.

  9. If you wanna go faster on track, before power, before handling, before brakes, before aero etc

    Driver ed..

    I got loads quicker from going back to school. £140 at Curbough sprint school saw me go a lot lot faster, and enjoy driving far more..

    I went from bottom of my class at one TSS event to a top 10 finish at the next race and be over 3 secs quicker on track, despite it being dark instead of light..

    If I had the cash and track car still, I would love to spend a day or two with a driver coach out on track..

    Its not always about what you have or have not got, its how you can make the most of it and improve from there.

  10. As some may notice, I am after a Gen 5 or 6 Celica 2wd non turbo.

    Tried to go away from Celicas, but sadly its in the blood, I blame the pints lost on trinity over the years, must have contracted something via blood poisoning!!

    Anyway. after scrapping trinity in the week, I need a fix.

    Want a different type of project, so no Gt4s wanted sadly.. This is for an everyday family fun car, so no big wheels, no lowered suspension or big brakes etc.. just a celica as Toyota intended really.

    I need to spend time working on others cars, as Ady needs a manual, derren a 3sgte swap, Ben a full mech overahaul and even Steve needs a bit of TLC. Plus next year I want to repay Louis / Mixer s help and get his engine rebuilt and him out racing. plus my good mate Doug is due to be a Dad again soon and he has a stack of parts waiting to go on his 185 that I can help him with..

    In an ideal word I still want a classic ford, but my budget is just a bit too tight.

    I WILL NOT be getting a gen 4 for a good while. Not until I have the cash to build what I want and thats a while off..

    So in sumary.

    gen 4 guru staying... but going later gen, so you still get me kickin round the forums.. if you will have me.

    Still up for shows too... if I am still welcome :-) ??
