Everything on a car is a question of a design compromise, performance, economy, longevity, cost etc. My view point is that I own a car that is late in its life, components are worn and need replacing, ergo I replace them with parts better suited to my requirements. A stock car has to be so many things to so many people, my car has to what I want it to.

    're the r&d stuff I don't agree. The technology that was current when for example a 165 was built and now is hugely different, from tyres to ecu. The single best mod I did to my 165 was replace its brain. It transformed the car. Technology moves at a frightening pace, why not take advantage of that?

  2. no he was okay lol, to be honest Lou spotted some light damage from leaking behind the plastics, so I will go over to Steve soon and take the boot trim out and get some rust preventer and treatment going.

  3. mini meet at mine today. Ben collected some wheels, and Doug fixed his Horn lol, Steve brought his 162 for Lou to make an gen 4 template rear strut brace up and I fitted my new front strut brace, and we talked Celicas non stop. Few pics to enjoy.

  4. Unless you are mega unlucky and some tyre fitter has had his air gun maxed out to something stupid, they should come off fine. Remember to check your wheel nuts again once you have had the wheel on and off. Just to make sure they are all as tight as they should be. When you undo and do up the nuts I like to in do the locker first and do it up last. Also good general practice to tighten etc opposite nuts to, so the wheel sits squarely.

  5. We will see, If I had 24k for a sports car, It would go elsewhere. A good Caymen S for example.

    I applaud the concept, but IMO a cars charactor and appeal has a lot to do with its engine. esp a "fun car" and from reading up from the press, EVO magazine for example bemoan the engines lack of power.

    Still, kudos to the old gen 6, its just as fast as the modern sporty Toyota!!

  6. Do not disagree with above, however I do wonder, why for a sports car, they made it so tepid. I am sure on the right roads etc it will be amazing. But in everyday life, motorways town etc, that lack of comparative grunt must be annoying. Esp considering what you could get on the used market. There are amazing light small turbo engines being developed at the mo, with good mpg and emissions, cannot help but think that would have been a better choice.

  7. Unless this guy I had a run with this morning had an issue with his car, I was suprised and even shocked to see that it just is not that fast.

    I know all the motoring press is going gaga re its rwd handling etc but to be honest I really though it would be faster.

    Both of us one up, clear empty dual carriage way with multiple round abouts, I was driving along after collect some bits from my Autospares place, he comes up behind me, then pulls alongside and gives it the big un.

    I go after him, catch him at the first roundabout and then am all over him coming off the roundabouts.

    Maybe I will run out re top end compared to him, but from 30 - to the legal limit(ish I was quicker?

    Now my GT is not in the best of health, its running rich and all it has is a induction kit, which tbh prob robs some power, so it aint fast at all.

    Not driven one, so will test drive one, but honestly thought that they were faster. Most modern TDIs can blow me into the weeds.

  8. I waited til the drive got re done and then while it was hot, jacked the car up front, sides and rear.

    Result, 4 perfect slots for the jack to locate in on the drive, and more clearance on the Jack / car interface.

    **Warning** I achieved this by luck and In no way is the wife at all upset / cross / pissed off about the holes in the nice drive we have, no sir, not at all!!

    I use a low slung twist and up Clarke one, great, but very heavy and big for side of the road stuff.

  9. my take on this.

    I sorned trinity a few times, stored in a dry but aired garage. each time however it was to do work on the car.

    and each time I got her back on the road I kicked myself for not doing it sooner.

    Cars liked to be used, its what they are designed for.

    Gen 4s can be either good as gold when laid up, or a pain in the butt. First time I did it, I had a couple of electrical issues that required sorting, a temp sensor went nuts, and a sticky passenger window motor.

    Using your car even say just weekends, is a much better idea than leavin it sat for 6 months, the heat cycles the car will go though will be good for all the operating parts and if there is an issue you will be able to identify straight away as you are familar with the drive off the car. dont drive it for 6 months and you will take a while to learn it again, by that I mean things like, "was that knock always there before", "did it hesitate at these revs before" etc

    a Battery conditioner, like a Citec is a great idea, it keeps the battery topped up and pro longs the life of it, when you are not using your car everyday.

    If you do Sorn and lay it up, I would Refresh the Coolant, flush as much crap out, and make sure you have new stuff in, to help prevent corrision in the waterways and if we get extremes of temp, any issues with freezing

    also make sure the handbrake is off, and I always place some drying elements in the cabin to prevent any mould, I use the cheap stuff you get for damp bathrooms.

    I also second the use of an axle stand the get your wheels up in the air, not only does it stop your tyres flat spoting, it means you can spend the winter, rust proofing the underside.
