  1. I'd go for Hids direct ones - I've had 4 sets from them and no issues with the slim digital ballasts. I had an old style ballast die after 15 months but they were pretty good and did me a deal on replacement.

I've got 4300k - seem to be a better white light than 6000k.

sidelights I use are PIAA multi element super white LED (bought years ago!) - but the projector lens does give them a blue tinge. Look at these newer SMD's they might be better.

  2. Work have just told me that I might have to go an do a job in Norfolk next week.. hmm could prove interesting if I take the Gen6!

Might have to print out this entire thread and take it with me in case I get stopped.

I guess if I get pulled by the 'noise police' I'll just have to be polite and take some notes such as:

Collar numbers, positioning of any testing devices, ambient conditions (weather and traffic).

Also a pre-prepared document for the testing officer to sign that any damage caused to my engine by their test of revving my engine in neutral at XXXXrpm is their responsibility.

I'm tempted to get a train over and taxi to the site from my hotel - but don't fancy the costs of that!

  3. Cool may be sorted i just need to see if twin pot carriers from Superstrut will fit UK GT, callipers do but not sure about carrier(slider), cause if they do i will need to have carriers cleaned up and painted.

SS3 Superstrut twin pots will fit the UK GT as long as you use the UK GT Carriers. Got a setup for sale in need of a refurb if you are interested.. got GT4 twinpot rears to go with it as well!

Bought them to do the conversion on mine, but got other priorities now.

  4. I've had all my kits from HIDS-Direct - only had one iffy ballast in 7yrs and that was a really old one - pre-digital jobbie.

The slim digital ballasts seem to be pretty much the best to get now. Like I said, my kit's have been on the Gen6 for 5 years. Even the kit on the CRV has been fine and on it for 4yrs - that setup is a single bulb with a moving shroud for dipped/main beam.

  5. I wouldn't fit full beams as HID's for two reasons - people won't see you flash them as HID's turn / off instantly, and because HID's aren't meant to be turned on and off in quick succession.

It depends on the kit you get - I've had a 4300k kit in my main beams since I went to HID and never had an issue - 5yrs on! A good kit will be able to store a charge for flashing and not suffer.

Cheap Chinese jobs on ebay will be prone to failure and also not as good in terms of 'features'.

  6. I've got a few bits for the RA28 which need to be sprayed up for fitting. As it's not a stock colour I need to get the paint made up. I've been to the recommended body shop near to me who have told me I'd be ok with 1ltr of paint. I just need to decide what to do about getting it. There is 2 places local to me who can make up the a paint - one will basically try to match it by 'eye' and make up a paint mix for about £40, the other will use a camera to match the colour and make up the paint(water based) for £60. Is water based paitn going to be ok for a chin spoiler ??

  7. Only been stopped a couple of times and got on ok with the cops - apart from one but he wasn't a real cop.

1st Stop was in my ' 98 SR - been out with a mate in Liverpool (who's a copper) and dropped him at his about 2am and was driving from his back home - from Anfield to the Wirral. Just going round the edge of Goodison and get pulled by a police van. They all pile out and surround the car and tell me to get out. Say it's a routine stop given the flash car and the 'hour'. They did a quick search of the car and my pockets and asked me what I was doing there. Told them I'd just dropped a mate off and was on way home. They wanted his name and address wich I gave them and copper said I think I know him, I must've locked him up for something to remember that name gives me a load of questions which I politely answer as his colleagues keep going over the car desperate to find something whilst he's also writing the producer. Then I drop the comment of course you must know him, his collar number is XXXX. He didn't seem to happy at that and knew it was going to get back about him being curt to a member of the public. Copper shits a brick and lets me get on my way with a brief apology.

2nd Stop was on the way back from Leeds after a late night job - about 4am. At the highest point and cruising about 80 as it was ony me on the road until a traffic car pulls off a slip behind me. He just wanted to check I was ok to drive at that hour. Had a brief chat and got sent on

3rd stop was in the Mersey Tunnels where the 'police' in there have no authority out side the tunnel boundaries. Picked my copper mate (now a a s up to head off for a weekend with mates and got pulled coming out the birkenhead side. First words from him were 'out of the car slaphead' - both me and my mate have shaved heads. At which point my mates pisses himself laughing and decides to be 'awkward'. 'Plastic' copper demands he empties his pockets, my mate refuses to do so until his 'supervisor' comes over. Takes ages for him to call his supervisor to come over and see what this issue is - my mate duly produces his warrant card and advises the supervisor how his colleague has addressed a member of the public and his attitude was non that would be expected. Cue verbal and written apology from that 'plastic' copper.

  8. I've had 4 sets of hid kits of Hids-Direct. First set was purchased as an analogue kit for my IS200 which was about 5yrs ago - all was fine for 2yrs and a ballast went which they replaced cheap enough (out of warranty).

I've also had 3 sets of digital hid kits of them all now over 3yrs old and no issues with any of their parts. These are all slim digital ballast setups - 1 set on the CRV and 2 sets on the Gen6 (JDM projectors).

All are 4300K bulbs and have had no issues come MOT or from other road users.

I'd always got for the slim ballasts now - easier to hide and much more reliable!
