Lacquering wing mirrors

Recommended Posts

Quick question... My wing mirrors are in a really bad condition paint wise, I didn't do the best job.. I think I should have lacquered them, because I didn't and they are really dull. Anyway, to lacquer should I just wet and dry with fine paper and then lacquer?

If the paint is thick enough then yes, just a light sand with 2000/2500 to smooth and key the surface, wipe down with something to remove all dust/grease/residue then laquer.

Be sure it's dry and warm where you're laquering as it can "bloom" and go cloudy with too much moisture/cold about.

Once you've finished laquering let it cure for a good few days - don't worry if the finish isn't perfect. Once it's cured give it a hit with rubbing compound then a t-cut it'll be like a mirror
