Ghoulie
Anybody got a photo of slave cylinder please???? I will check it Clutch has always slipped slighty since buying the car esp under acceleration when driven hard or racing pug 206 GTIs on a private racetrack. (joking of corse) Bite is quite high, fairly close the top infact, and as has been said sometimes it just wont go into gear without a crunch or sometimes unless you come off the clutch back into neutal and cluth back down. Bek did check the fluid and top up about 6 months ago which did make it a little better briefly. The clutch slipping hasnt got any worse since buying it, its just always been there. I would have thought if the problem was the clutch then the slipping would have got worse quickly which is why Im hedging towards the box??? Of corse if we replace the box then be mad not to change the clutch at same time, Im also thinking a 6 box would be a good move????
Briano
Im also thinking a 6 box would be a good move???? 5 box has better ratios the slave is on the front of the gearbox and you cant miss it if bekks checked it im sure he would have seen leakign fluid

kittii13
can u stop trying to talk urself into getting a gen 6 gearbox for MY car, i want to keep it 100% a 5 (mechanically anyway, yes i am aware i have gen 6 splitters) Everything you just said Ive already said, and yes the slipping has got worse but weirdly only today (il let u drive it round the block when you get home if you dont believe me) putting it back into first gear when slowing at traffic lights was a bitch today, and then it didnt want to come out of first when i pulled away. and yes Briano, I agree, Bek would have seen the leak, and im sure i would have noticed it too, it only gets driven once a week at the moment so if i had any kind of leak im sure I would have noticed a wet patch under the car. Im pretty sure its fine and its just the clutch wearing out.

Ghoulie
The reason I said a 6 box over a 5 is very simple. Its at least 4 years newer  Hopefully it will just be the clutch there is no doubt that the clutch wants doing, but what I dont want to do is fit a new clutch only to find out that the box needs doing as well then the lot has to come out a second time. Ill have a drive weekend.

Ghoulie
Right the test drive............AKA Ghoulscouts 6 mileish trip to work First of all can I just say how bloody coool Huey Morgan sounds on SLS B) i meen like really wow, smooooth Oh and this car needs cleaning out, I mean really I thought mine was bad. Back on topic. Unfortunatly she was actully in quite a good mood today didnt get any crunches out of it at all and this includes putting it in reverse to pull out parking space. I swear cars have moods. Driving along resi 30/40 Mph all good apart from a slight slipping clutch. Then your never going to guess what happened got to duel carridgeway (for those that dont know the IOW has one 70mph road which is about half a mile of duelly) and theres a sign on the road saying "Road closed for all cars except Black ST182s for gearbox testing purposes" Like wow what are the chances of that happening??? So anyways I stop at lights, turn Fun lovin criminals down, lights change, boot it up road, nice bit of slip between first n second, but second to third a serious fight burst between gearbox and engine engine screaming "come on lets go" and clutch/box screaming "fcuk you" similar between third and forth, and due to running out of road forth to 5th change was a lot less agressive. Pulls into work carpark and I might of imagined it but I think I got a very slight scream of what sounded a little bit like clutch release bearings. Will check it over for leaks later on today Question 1:- would a gearbpx issue cause the clutch to slip or is that 100% down to the cluch? Question 2:- Leak or Leek?? Ones a drip ones a vegi but I can never remember which one is which, Dammit maybe that explains my PAS problem (note to self take vegis out of PAS tank they wont fix it) In conclusion shes got the power there its just not going down on the road, all of this would make me think clutch not box. But the thing thats making me think box as well is, Had her over two years now and its always been a bit ropey, so why is it still drivable??? Ive only ever replaced one clutch before (which was a mark 5 Ford Escort) when the clutch started slipping on that as little as 2 weeks later it was so bad it would wheel spin when changing up due to building up so many revs by the time the transimition re-engaged. Oh and for some strange reason some guy in an MG-ZT managed to get through security and sneak onto the Celica gearbox test track......................... Even with a fcuked clutch she still kicked its arse.
kittii13
told you i wasnt imagining it. i had to drive a few miles yesterday before the clutch issues started really bad. and yes ive noticed a weird noise too but youve always said you cant expect 22 year old cars not to make weird noises. leak is the drip, leek is the veg and yes ive noticed she doesnt want to "go" pulling away seems quite slow compared to how she used to be however, all this is irrelevant as something else seems to be developing... ...daves sense of humour lol
Ghoulie
Well yes thats the first time Ive had the what I think is the cluch release bearing noise. You can hear the engine wanting to go, the transmition just wont let it, and it doesnt thump you in the back when aggressively changing up like it should. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HIGH-PERFROMANCE-UPRATED-SPORTS-CLUTCH-KIT-TOYOTA-CELICA-2-0-GTI-1992-1999-ST182-/300763753492?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4606eaac14 your thoughts please guys?????
