  1. I am merely saying that if someone wants to swap bumpers then they should make sure they have the 2 reinforcement support bars the cs/rc bumper comes with and in most cases I don't think they do as they may not even be supplied with it when it's purchased 2nd hand and therefore the bumper is not supported/protected as it should be.

As they may not even be aware the bumpers are built differently as the cs/rc has 2 support bars (lower & upper) whereas the standard bumper has just the 1 support bar (of course they have the energy absorbers but am only referring to bars), obviously you know all this as you have probably seen the differences 100's of times! But many people swapping the bumpers are probably not even aware of the differences.

  2. I'm not suggesting that no as if someone fits a cs/rc bumper to a standard Gen 5 and doesn't use the cs/rc reinforcement support bars then they won't have full protection / support as they won't be using the correct bars for it.

I'm saying that in most cases when people swap their bumpers for a cs/rc bumper and don't have the bars that go with it then they are not having the correct protection / support for that bumper, now it may be that they didn't get them with it when they purchased it or more likely they don't realise that the cs/rc bumper is built differently and therefore uses different reinforcement support bars to a standard bumper and so to be safe they should fit the correct reinforcement bars for the correct bumper if they change it.

  3. Bumpers are interchangeable but only safe if the correct support bars are also changed which most often are not so in a crash it doesn't act correctly.

Interesting this sparked a discussion on gen 5's when the article is actually about gen 4's!

Shame MSN can't get their facts/details/pics correct when talking about the gen 4 ST165 GT-Four but nice to know they recognise it in their list :)

  4. I used to just go for a drive late at night quite a few years ago now and if other drivers were about we then might have had a 'play'

But when petrol prices made it expensive to just go for a drive I had to cut down (especially as was in GT-fours) then other reasons meant later years couldn't go out late at night.

One night in particular still sticks in my mind when I and another driver were out and I had just been round a roundabout and then in my rear view mirror I saw the other car spin out (he probably didn't think I had turbo & 4WD!)

  5. While it is certainly possible to get somewhat decent MPG out of an ST205 you would never get above mid 20's on a long drive at most IMO (I managed it!), if you keep it at set speed and don't drive like an @%#%# but as others have said MPG and GT-Fours aren't really used in a sentence and if they are you shouldn't have one

And the buttons that are missing would be air con as yours doesn't have it looking at other buttons on console.

  6. Ah, those pics remind me when I went to FOS in 2007 which turned out to be Toyota's year there which I didn't know before going :)

Not sure if the cars in your pics were there then but they might have been - will have to dig out my old topic to check although I did put vids on YouTube.

  7. Britax evolva 123 has been recommended before.

Have you not used anything up to now?

Agreed, that is what I used (1-2-3 plus version) in my celica and it fits in Gen 7/6/5 etc..

Great seat and fully adjustable through various ages/weights.

Fits snugly in the bucket bit of the standard seat as its not as wide as others so makes it a perfect fit.

    would highly recommend :)

  8. Think I need another GT4 in my life.....

Would love another ST205 for sure, but I have been looking at the ST185 and im liking them a lot, but what are they like compared to the ST205?

Well IMO the ST185 is more fun to drive and the ST205 is more of a cruiser ;)

Both are great cars but both are very different, and yes I am speaking from experience!

It really does depend on what you want from your car, as you have already had an ST205 and assuming you was happy with it then go for another one, if however you want a change then get an ST185 you will notice a lot of differences and I dont mean the obvious ones I mean the driveability/feeling ones.

Take an ST185 for a test drive and see what you think :)

I wont go into the pro's & con's because this has been covered countless times but if you want more info about the differences then by all means ask any questions ;)

Classic car policies are only applicable aswell if the car in question isn't the main daily driver, classic policy is only on 2nd or higher car as it can't be something that is driven daily which is not something people mention when they say oh I only pay £*** on classic insurance but neglect to mention it's not their daily driver!

  9. Is your car a gen 6 (looking at your avatar pic)?

Putting your model in your profile would help ;)

If so then you can perform an error check, click the technical link on my site URL link in my SIG and there is a guide to do an ECU error checking (its for gen 5 but is the same procedure) and also a list of the error codes and what they mean.

  10. Don't do the square one as that's usually for the back of the car, and some police don't realise they are on some fronts on JDM as well.

An import one (square or small plate) will probably get you stopped by police as an illegal plate if they feel inclined and if they know the car is UK.

Even when the car is a JDM import they still stop the car - happened to me many times and had to explain it was an import, I did have aftermarket plates too but were legal ones but import size.

  11. My first awareness of a Celica came when I had sold a car in the late 90's so 15+ yrs ago now and i needed something to drive and went to a few car dealers and spotted this rather nice looking silver car and asked how much it was and the guy said £400 as it had just had a full mot done (So pretty much paid for the fact it had an mot on it).

And it was a 1981 ra61 xt which had a leaky sunroof, but I thought it was great fun to drive and had a high spec i thought at the time, and it is what got me interested and so far I have now had 6 since of varying models and years!

  12. I went out to my car last week and there was the biggest bird s*** on it I'd ever seen, it was as if an elephant had done it, it must have been the biggest pigeon/some other bird on the planet - it covered a massive area!

I usually get the odd one or two as sometimes I park near a telephone pole but this was ridiculous, I'm sure they are doing it so I have to keep washing the car in case a buyer turns up

  13. I am v glad to have a GT-Four in the white stuff again, have had no problems getting about while others slip & slide or get stuck, where-as my mondeo was useless in the snow 2wd and at the front made it almost impossible to get anywhere in snow/ice.

Used to be able to get about in my previous 2wd celicas though, but each year is different levels of snow etc..

But am surprising people as they obviously don't realise i have 4wd!
