  1. The liquid around the tooth in your photo does seem to have a redish tint to it which would indicate that it is coolant (Toyota Forlife / Long Life Coolant is red in colour) but removing the matrix isn't a job I would like doing myself. If you can find a way to bypass the matrix using a piece of rubber tube, that might be the best short term option to stop any more leaks inside the car.

... I decided to try a local garage and I've never seen such a long list of advisories... Fortunately, someone put me on to another garage and the same car has subsequently passed another 2 MoT's with no advisories.

If you can find a "dedicated" MoT testing business you will find their results are far more honest. They don't do repairs so it's left to the vehicles owner to take it to a garage or do the repairs themselves. Local councils will sometimes offer this 'no axe to grind' service in between maintaining their own vehicles.

  3. ...I require a good powerful battery which can be a good upgrade to the current battery I have.

If you don't already have the correct battery (Ref:005) then just fitting the standard battery could be what you're looking for. If you have filled your car with loads of speakers/amp's then I would think that a more powerful battery might be needed, but I know very little about ICE (In Car Entertainment), so wait for an expert to answer that one.

Let us know what battery is fitted now, brand/make, model etc.

  4. ...quite shocking in fact and a bit of a shame they have lasted less than a year.

As usual, you get what you pay for. It's possible to get vinyl that is guaranteed for five years against peeling, cracking, fading etc, but not everyone is willing to pay the extra. Some vinyl is only intended to be used on temporary signs and short term advertising such as you'll see on taxi's and buses. It's another case of "buyer beware".

  5. ...for those with the experience of buying Gen 6 <, how do you go about making sure you buy a 10+ year old model which is still in good shape ?

There will always be pampered, well looked after examples of any car. The trick is to be patient and wait for them to come onto the market and then act quickly before someone else gets them.

It took me just over a year to find a virtually rust free Gen'5 and lots of disappointing journeys back and forth, but I finally found one for a great price.

The best of luck with your search.
