  1. i usually do a boiling hot drain as i cant do work at my house (as there is no where to do it) and have to drive 15 miles to my parents so it just sprays itself out. just make sure you either use a really long knuckle bar or have amazingly quick reactions.

  2. I was very recently in this situation with a swap of my Rx8 for my celica, I'm pretty savvy when it comes to working on cars and luckily I didn't have any of these issues. But if you want to compare to other cars such as the rx8 in the same position then the celica have simple easy fixes and don't cost the earth to sort out. But then you only need a couple of hundred to go wrong all at the same time for it be written down as a unreliable car.

  3. Cant wait to see it mate. Can you tell me what system you are using suspension wise as i would love a set up like that. i did notice the cars leaving you on the straight but like you said handling beats straight line speed (well at least on that track)

Maybe 'Must' is to strong a word of course our cars will run on copper spark plugs. For me, I cant risk them failing or decreasing in performance through wear which copper is much more prone to in high compression high heat situations i.e. 2zzge which as a standard high compression engine. You are right in that copper is the best conductor but the copper spark plug isn’t as hard as other metals so it wears down more quickly with the high pressure and heat created in the cylinder of the engine. Over time, this wear leads to the spark plugs\ gap increase, additional ignition system loads, fouling and not working as efficiently as they did when they were new. Copper spark plugs likely need to be changed every 10,000 miles if you dont want to see decrease in performance.

Iridium is a lot harder and stronger than platinum or copper, retains almost the same conductivity and have super fine electrodes (relatively). What doesnt actually matter here is how good a conductor the spark plug is, they work is done by the spark so how quickly and sharply that plug can ionise the fuel air mixture is key to its performance. Iridium has finer electrodes therfore requires a lower voltage to jump the gap. Yes they are more expensive but will also last likely 4x that of of a copper spark plug. Seems like the more expensive option (initially) is actually the cheapest, most consistant option to me.

Good answer and well made. But i have a minor disagreement with the lasting 4x more, i only find it to be 2/3 more (with other cars) so iridium 30k and like you said copper 10k but mine tends to last just under 15k. but cant disagree with the rest

  5. so you use to buy copper and now you have started to buy iridium it seems to be performing better??? i can honestly say that i feel the better performance in copper, its a smoother drive and seems quicker reaction to accelerate. i am talking for previous cars as i havnt changed the sparkies yet since owning my celica so cant comment on that yet.

  6. curious to why iridium is a must? copper is the best conductor and can still handle up to 1000°C+ and are cheaper to buy, although copper spakies dont usually last as long but then they are usually less than half the price???

  7. Really??? The last car I owned was a rx8 so you can't really get much better then that but the celica feels loose on corners although it is the best fwd car I have driven (now I have fitted 25mm spacers). I thought the type r was built to be on tracks mean while this was built to appeal to the younger generation aka me lol. And he has a great suspension set up on his at the moment and mine just has worn springs and dampers lol.

the quarter mile is interesting especially as i think the celica one is done on prediction and the power to weight ratio is very close

  8. I agree with pointless other then the fact we both want to know the difference in power to real world effects. Plus we will both be going for either super or turbo charge at some point (well I will be) so it would be nice to see how much I have gained. I forgot to mention his car is on 166k miles.
