  1. Unfortunately "current" prices would suggest about £1500-£1600 - think they've taken a hit lately in depreciation as you can get a T-Sport for £2k on an '03 these days according to the 'bay and auto trader.

For some reason facelifts never seem to be worth more than pre-facelifts despite the differences

  2. I've got an abundance of choice around here and to be honest I only moved onto super when the "fuel panic" happened (as no one was panic buying higher octane).

I used to use "normal" fuel and get around 100 miles off £20

When i've used BP its like rats pee and I struggled to get 90 ish miles off £20

Tesco momentum gets around 110 miles ish off £20

but.. V-power gives me nearer 40mpg and 120ish miles off £20.

Have to note that although this isn't down to an exact science it was a regular thing and I don't drive any differently between fuels. I recently filled with v-power which is around £70 a tank and I'm not too far off 400 miles out of it but I'll probably need a re-fill next week and I'll be able to calculate a more exact figure. But it does run a lot better off V-Power (smoother + more mpg) and I used to be a skeptic

  3. I bought an oil filter and oil from eurocarparts for about £30, the only extra you'd get for your £207 is an air filter and a general check up - if you're happy with the condition of the car I can't see that the £170 would be worth it and I doubt it'd add £170 to the value of the car.

Thats my 2p's worth, but generally because I'm sufficiently qualified and know, as previously discussed, what main dealers are like from my younger days (i.e. the mechanics or 'techs' aren't OEM quality lol)

  4. I've just emailed them asking about any places in the north-east which are offering this service as Suffolk is a little far to travel. Looks pretty interesting though and I'm loving the nutty professor look the guy has got going on.

Anyone heard any reviews, good or bad? Would be interesting if anyone who owns an MOT garage could actually go so they could do a before and after test on the emissions (I'm assuming it would give better emission results if it was successful)

That Edd China, tv's biggest pleb. Pretends to fix cars on Mike Brewer shows while someone else actually does the work - except for that time he restored the front of a capri with rattle cans......

I'm not too convinced by the product to be honest, a modern engine shouldn't be affected by carbon build up really anyway, I mean I've opened up lots of 100k mile plus zetec and ecotecs amongst other 'modern' engines and I've never seen anything I'd describe as carbon coking. I'd be more concerned about what this stuff does to the rest of the system (O2 sensors & cat) while its shredding its way 'clean burning' ?

  5. seems fair , most cars i see are owned by ladys 50+ or lads out to enjoy themselves , performance isnt going to set the world alight unless you thrash it so that seems about right also , about the only thing id say is it can seat 4 or 5 at a push which given the shape is rather good , wouldnt say its fair to make out its a 2 seater

I'm just over 6' and in a comfortable but still 'normal' driving position you'd struggle to get a fully-limbed person behind me :/

  6. I've always noticed I get better running out of the car using V-Power over BP (which I'm sure stands for Bull Piss based on its usefulness as fuel) and Tesco Momentum...

Anyway, my usual commute involves 8 miles or more of 30/40's and 20 miles or so of dual carriageway so 70ish (you get the jist, generally sensible but sometimes a little more adventurous but constant).

Considering I've got a new standard system to fit (cat + back) because its been showing P0420 and the back box broke and is temporarily held by a Dr pepper can and juby clip (which is suprisingly good in at sealing and it doesn't blow at the mo) I've been driving a little more careful and made 2 trips this week avoiding the dual carriage.

Anyway, I bought 14.20 litres of V Power when the last bar went. Wrote down the mileage. Last bar went on the way back from work just so pulled in and had to use momentum to top up.

Starting mileage on the trip meter - 283.0 miles

Mileage after the last bar went - 409.6 miles

I make that just over 40mpg? Considering the circumstances thats pretty good. I'm sure I normally get 32-35mpg driving the same using 95RON (maybe a little extra using momentum).

  7. easy acceleration saves me more fuel than a lower top speed

you'd be supprised by some tdis.

riding in an audi 170bhp tdi ~250lbft. the thing pulls like a V6. they come in 4wd

it can give you whiplash from low speed acceleration

it is so quiet, you cant hear the engine on a dual carrageway. (tdi noise is noticeable around town)

    someone has one @220bhp +350lbft torque :o

a few things that might shock some diesel-phobes

and bhp is a function of engine speed so in general terms you're talking the equiv of 300-400bhp petrol engines really

  8. I could tell you how to calculate it based on what I've done for my degree and/or what literature I have, but theres not much point as its all theoretical because the calculations don't take traffic or engine load into consideration, i.e. up hill, driving into strong winds blah blah.

Light right foot = better economy, basically.

  10. As far as i'm aware, if the old bill wanna be awkward they can seize your car if your driving without tax.

Only if the DVLA have passed the power over to the Police in that area, otherwise it will be the local authority. Beyond this, if neither is the case, it is a right reserved only for the DVLA.

  11. I wouldnt drive it without tax as if stopped, the police will fine you along with points which will only increase your premium alot on renewal and will sometimes stop certain companies insuring you at all in the future due to certain types of conviction/points they wouldn't cover e.g (IN10).

Not that I would want to encourage anyone but its not an offence punishable by points at all, just a fine. The penalty is dependant on circumstances:

    Driving Without Road Tax:

Fine up to £1,000 or 5 times the annual road tax fee, whichever is the greater amount. You may also be liable to pay back duty.

Causing or Permitting Someone to Drive Without Road Tax:

Fine to a maximum of £1,000 unless the vehicle can carry more than 8 passengers, when the fine rises to a maximum of £2,500.

    Failure to Display Road Tax:

    Fine up to £200.

Using a Vehicle When Declared SORN:

    Fine up to £2,500

Using a Vehicle when Liable to Pay Road Tax at a Higher Rate:

Fine up to £1,000 or 5 times the difference between the tax rates calculated at the annual rate. You may also be liable to pay back duty.

Heres a list of all the offence codes for anyone interested:
