Sounds like youve done a good job there, your sills look immaculate for the age, have you done much to them before and if so what cos it defo seems to have worked?
Re: those white clips are all over the celica if u wanna swap any out in places ive used universal ebay packs which seemed to work almost as well in past.
-
Ive just gotta handheld one not dissimilar to your new gun thats for handheld insitu confined topical sand/soda blasting not sure how good it works yet
-
Yeah looks like qu a good compressor that mines similar tbh they all seem to look fairly generic but dont know how they differ in quality but that looks a good un.
And your gun looks a good one, in fact ive just bought a sandblaster that looks v similar to that to do the samejob cos the paraffin gun that came with my cheap compressor kit fell to bits, u mite even be able to sand/soda blast any rust away easy with it first too.
-
Looks a pretty good compressor that should do the job nicely, i stick a cardboard box over the motor temporarily quietens em right down.
Yeah ultra dry s gonna prolly really help maybe blast out with just compressed air before you start.
Im considering drilling a couple of extra strategically placed extra drain holes in mine- good idea dyou think?
The sill covers are easy to remove from what i can remember just 3 bolts, the clips are harder to remove a tool does help, but i think the covers do go back on a certain way so make a note.

Id have to double check but i think thats the same spec as mine which managed to spray oily stuff with the paraffin gun you can always thin (+ heat) it with something, thing is with the G7 its quite easy if u prise open the sill cover clips (or remove em) it increases drainage a lot and u can inject thro there, but tbh you really want to remove the sill covers anyway, its not worth doing a proper job without really cos thats where a lot of the corrosion/stuck on mud comes from, youll see if any areas need welding first and maybe where to conc on, and if so theres loads of access holes where you dont have to spray very far.
Tbh it mite be better in the spring but anyway i mainly used to squirt in thro the door sill covers then park on a slope so it runs to the ends
-
Yeah and surface preps supposed to be v important but obv thats easier said than done in many places, it doesnt 'seem' to have made any difference with mine but then again i cant see underneath or inside it
-
Ive used all sorts of stuff, nothing sophisticated but seemed to have done the trick to good effect, but mainly on the regular periodic application of the prone areas if nothing else, know most of the drain hole application areas and yeah drain holes being able to drains likes been said is equally as important.
Now if youve got the waxoyl already u could always mix something to go with it too.
-
Cheers, yeah I'm not sure how they're supposed to work exactly, but they do look unsightly more than anything else
-
Yeah thanks, can't really see how it's supposed to work, don't know how crucial it is, most cars I've seen, particularly on o/s have had similar wear, only thing is in that state it's prolly only gonna make vibration/centrifugal forces worse, don't know whether it'd be better cutting em off?

Tbh, I've also used Halfords myself the last couple of years too and I agree defo seem one of the best I managed to get 2 free mot vouchers, with 'any' purchase the last 2 years, just after the rule changes, and it passed first time both, with only advisories, I thought I was gonna get stung by a swarm, I was astounded, my chin was lower than Jimmy Hills/Bruce Forsyths and the Marianna trench,(great customer service too), am a bit more worried this time tho, in 3 weeks, hence the new tyre purchase.
Thanks for all your tips you've answered a load of my questions, I've realised it's a whole new nano-science to me, maybe understandably given there importance.
In the past I've always taken them for granted, it is handy nowadays, with these comparison type sites, cheers Kev btw I'll take a look at that Camskill site there's tyreleader as well I've heard of don't know whether they're any good too. I've got access to tyre-changing facilities as my mates got a part-worn place, and after seeing him sell tyres with less tread on them than the ones they came in with in the first place, I'm totally done with part worns now!!
I know he uses trade wholesale tyre factors for new one's and I'll maybe see if they're any value at all too and report back if so.
And yeah, cheers Kev, I know what you mean and ve said, I think 17s are the optimum, I don't know whether 18's have there virtues, but they've defo affected my acceleration and feel more sluggish etc with the extra unsprung weight could do without.
They're more for unlowered cosmetics at mo,I agree, tyres are prolly less common too.
-
-
Thanks that's a nice looking wheel that, my favourite OEM rim that, there's currently a cracking deal on at the mo for 4 Goodyear eagle f1 s for 260 quid at Costco but am not a member anymore at mo.
Dyou think there maybe some good deals coming up now it's approaching the end of summer/winter, I was thinking cos I'm more of an urban snail and not really a race car driver that something midrange like falkens or yeah Avon's would suit.
-
Thanks, tbh in the past I haven't really paid much attention to getting tyres, just the odd cheap one when it's been required, but I've been convinced by the likes of Sir Kev that it renders a bit more of an investment. So does having decent matching rubber on all 4 corners really make a large difference?
I've never really been in a situ where perhaps all 4 could be changed and am thinking now my car warrants and deserves it.
I've heard the Goodyear eagles are pretty much the dogs, it s just interesting to know what sort of tread patterns they came with out of the factory.
I think what I'll do is wait until a good deal comes on for a set of 4 good sounding tyres and then get them fitted.
How does everyone else go about getting theirs, any good tips?
-
Thinking of getting a new set of rubber all round, does anyone know what tyre brand etc were the gen 7 s supplied with from the factory by any chance?
-
Lol yeah thats dead right unlike the Celica I do all myself I've had to subcontract out for the grooming and FSH.
-
-
Yeah I know what you're saying my bonnet bumper and reg plate were pretty similar from the previous owner, the paint does seem quite fragile, but unfortunately it's now been added to by my round town parking scrapes etc!!
Your car does sound pretty good for a 200k er, and with the underneath in good nick, mines similar, you d actually be hard pushed to buy a better example ironically!!
Mine does look pretty shabby I suppose in retrospect maybe a bit more paintwork tlc or applying something pre motorway work may have helped poss?
-
Of course motorway miles is prolly much better than town miles even cosmetically.
I've always wondered where they get the 12k average mileage from and whether it's totally accurately representable.
I've pretty much always limited my miles to between 3 - 5 k but I do use mine quite a lot but mainly jus round town, occasionally im surprised when I've realised I've gone over the quota, but unless I was using mine for heavy motorway or daily commuting I couldn't see myself ever getting near the average 12 k.
And so the low mileage 30k 10 year old car must still actually be quite a well used car.

When you say 'light' how light exactly are these any stats?
All I know is most alloys I've lifted are far from light, I'm trying to perceive the effect/difference on unsprung weight.

A v tasty looking wheel that have to say, the OZ ones look nice too but the JR ones for me just look too similar to the standard tsports
-
I've recently got some from these guys they stock a big range, there's a branch in Manchester, I think they deliver too
-
Yeah I think it is off the top of my head, but I've never had any capacity issues with the 063 fits quite snuggly if you drill another hole in the bar on the top, it might be a little bit heavier tho they do seem to be a funny motorbike like size on the celicas, have u got a trickle charger I used to have a couple of solar ones for my spares but they never really touched the sides.
A trick I've heard but not fully tried is that you can stick some epsom salts in the cells to sortta recon them.
That's a handy guarantee via the halfords route they always seemed to have been quite accommodating on the returning battery's front and in some respects is worth a try I've heard again the extra price for a long warrantied battery can be just more of an insurance policy for a return.
I've noticed your 140 looks and must be really tasty tbh seems like the good un s do seem to be creeping up in value, but did u say you still had a couple of rust issues, goes to show well worth keeping on top of I think.
Yeah am also tempted with that tyre deal too I've got a set of Audi TT alloys to rubberise gained too from one of your previous tips, you've also changed my policy on the tyre front as well, in the past I've always just stuck on whatever I can get hold of at the time but with a bit more knowledge from you it just doesn't seem worthwhile compromising on.
BTW ive always meant to ask what's with the tr7 pic a good one of those must be a really sought after beast have you got one of those as well?

You just need to get a company such as Halfords to carry out a free battery check, and if their "print out" shows it in need of replacement, post that print out to Battery Megastore, and they will send a new battery, along with free delivery of the old battery back to them.
I hardly use the Celica since I retired back in 2009. Odometer only reading 28k
PAID20 finishes tomorrow night, and I may treat one of my cars to a pair of those Toyo TR1 tyres from Demon Tweeks
The reviews say the side-walls are stiffer than the very soft, and now discontinued, T1R.
Link to eBay offer on HUKD..

Yeah you're right there Kev as per, I've seen a few 7's with 063 fitted and I've got one on mine now, it just needs slight adaptation to secure it, they're the standard 'cheapo ' size tbh I've used them on several cars in the past to seemingly no detriment just by having a couple of spares leftover, there is another bigger 'standard' size that 'll also fit but I can't remember the no. now.
And yeah the lions aren't supposed to be mega esp compared to the yuasa s that was an example but that code seems to be quite handy don't know how long the promo's on for.
That link looks like quite a good one, defo worth shopping around on something potentially pricey as batteries I usually use a trade supplier, battery megastore sound quite good can you get an exchange some places are quite accommodating and that's what warranties are for, d you not use your car much?

Yeah sounds like its a good solid example i dont think its too hard to keep these rustfree at bay key is i think to just know the few areas to pre-empt in the firstplace.
Your sills are amazing ive yet to take my covers off yet but am hoping for something similar obviously.
I dont think a bit of rust on the outer sills would be too bad to treat, its just if it was the full sill or inner sill probably.
FYI theres a spot above the sills in the door jamb/pillars that can go rusty ive noticed possibly more on the sunroof models?
I think it could be treated thro the door open/shut sensors.
OR am contemplating maybe drilling a couple of extra access/drain holes in certain places, have you or anyone got any experience or opinions on whether this is a good idea or not?
