Got my new lift bolts finally, and just want to ask a few questions before I go ahead and try to fit them.
Lets assume my current bolts are still intact. The engine has covered only 50,000 miles. I am not a complete novice, but I'm not a mechanic either. I don't have many tools, but can go and get what's required if necessary.
1. Are there any special tools I will need, or will a socket set & a few screwdrivers do the trick? Is a torque wrench really necessary, or is all the way down plus a half turn ok?
2. Will I need a replacement rocker gasket, or can I re-use the existing one?
3. Will I need any silicone gasket/sealer of any description?
4. Has anybody encountered any problems particularly doing this job?
5. Can I take both bolts out then fit the new ones, or should I replace them one at a time?
6. Should I put anything on the threads like WD40/copper grease, or just go in dry??
7. Is there anything else I might want to do while the rocker cover is off, or anything to look out for/worth checking?
8. How long might I expect the job to take approximately from start to finish?
9. I've read that after replacing these bolts, it can take a while for lift to return fully. Is that true? If so, why? And how long/many miles will it take?
The tutorials I have found so far are these;

Thanks in advance, Andy

Okey dokey. Cheers for the heads up.

Does anybody else's parcel shelf rattle, or is it just mine? Really annoying. Anybody remedied this successfully?
Oh yeah, and my spoiler rattles cos it's a bit loose. To tighten it up, is it a simple case of removing the plastic fascia & do up a bolt with a socket? Or does it mean the thread in my spoiler is knackered?
Thanks.

Yeah, guess I'll have to email them to enquire when the time is right..

Here is the link to the manifold I'm talking about. UK site, so I assume for rhd cars..

Thanks for the link Jon.
Ok, well that's good to know then. Thought there might be a problem with my Ignition system somewhere. Wasn't looking forward to chasing that around.
Gonna get a Cobra cat back, DC sports manifold, and then remap the ecu ultimately. Do you think that could help with the dead spot?
And yeah, the lull isn't so bad in 2nd or 3rd tbh. But when you get to 4th, it's terrible. And my engine's only done 50,000 miles. This is why I'm starting with plugs, then may look at changing the coils. Or do you really not think it will help?
And what's better then, NGK's or Denso's? What's the best price Denso's can be had for?

Something like this then? NGK..

There's also these..though quite pricey! TRD plugs..
Grade 8..
Or grade 7..
Can anyone tell me what the difference between grade 6/7/8 is please?

Ah ok. Iridium it is then I guess. And NGK just seem to be excellent for Japanese cars in general. Glad they work well in our engines too.
So you're really happy with the way your engine runs? And a smooth powerband/cam changeover? Mine has a slight dead spot just before lift. Not sure what that could be. Any ideas?

I know there's no right answer here necessarily, but just wondering what spark plugs are regarded as being best for our engines? I'm talking 2002 VVTL-I 190.
I've owned a number of Honda Preludes in the past, and I have to say, the engines are quite similar. For these, NGK were the way to go. Standard copper core was said to give a good all round performance, platinum for longevity, and iridium if you're doing track days or spanking the shit out of it most of the time.
My inclination would be to go for NGK platinums, or maybe Denso's. Another one I always wanted to try was the Nology Silver's, but never got round to giving them a go.
Any thoughts?

That's great, thanks for the info Shaun. I know some of the questions might have seemed a little trivial..but I REALLY like this car..and just wanted to make sure I covered all the bases before I embarked upon this task.
I wonder why I read that lift can take a short time to return fully, whilst the new bolts bed in? I didn't think it sounded quite right.
I'll see if I can find the literature..
