  1. aluminium has much higher thermal expansion coefficient than steel, 22 to 12 (micrometers/meter per Kelvin).

If you cool down your wheels aluminium nuts and wheels will shrink more than steel, releasing tension in the cone area, but tightening fit on the stud.

Considering current temperatures attacking them first thing in the morning should give you best chances of success.

  2. do it all the time as:

On a long and lonesome highway east of Omaha

You can listen to the engine roaring one out of old songs

You can think about the woman, or a girl you knew the night before

But your thoughts will soon be wandering, the way they always do

when you riding sixteen hours there is nothing much to do....

my fav riding song - turn the page (metallica version)

  3. New tyres on rear make sense from tyre rotation and wear point of view. Grip wise - keep them equal. Want to upgrade from ditch finders to some decent rubber - 4 at once. Or drive grandpa style all the time and use public transport on rainy days. ;)

  4. lorry pulling out to overtake can really f*^%^k your day when going 130... even on 3 lane autobahn.

So autobahn, sunday(no lorries allowed on sundays and public holidays there) and A2 between dortmund and Hannover are best place to do lift(cut off?) in 6th. Actually past hannover it widens to 4-5 lanes so better go there....

BTW on the way to nurburg ring you'll have all autobahns limited to 70-80mph.

  5. As Cravo says it's less noticeable in higher gears, almost not there in 6th..... I'm told ;)

Lift in 1st however is for winners!

    Same RPM in all gears.

Lift in 5th and 6th are undetectable by ass-accelerometer. You can hear it, you'll see faster speedo movement but won't feel it.

Do it on unlimited stretch of german autobahn or race track if you like your driving license ;),and life.

I wouldn't stare at speedo when driving 120+ mph, anywhere, leave it for passenger - if you find someone brave/stupid enough ;)

  6. Looking to spend about £50 a corner.

Why are 215's a bit cheaper than 205's for the same tyre

Have the Avon ZZ2 on it at the moment

215 are cheaper due to popularity.

Price is not always proportional to quality.

Marshal ditchfinders are priced higher than Falkens,Rainsports even nokians.Latter 3 are in top 20 in ADAC tests

  7. some time ago I've send enquiry to DVSA(former VOSA) about retrofitted HID headlamps reply was short and simple:

    Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your email enquiry dated 13th April 2015, concerning the above.

Please find below the response that we have received from our Private Vehicle Scheme Management section who have paraphrased a response from the Matters of Testing Blog titled: VOSA's Customer Centre:- Commonly Asked Questions.

Do HID headlamps require washers / self levellers?

Headlamp washing and levelling systems are a legal requirement for high intensity discharge (HID) lamps with a luminous intensity exceeding 2,000 lumens. But unless the luminous intensity is marked on the lamp, a tester won’t be able to tell if these systems are needed.

So, they can only be rejected if they are fitted and are inoperative or obviously defective. This is not an MOT oversight but a pragmatic method of testing this type of headlamp.

We appreciate you have done a lot of research but it may be worth you taking a look at the Department for Transport (DfT) produced factsheet on aftermarket HID headlamps which can be found at:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/aftermarket-hid-headlamps

I hope this information has assisted you with your enquiry, but if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again.

    Kind Regards,

  8. r134 is not as destructive to ozone as r132, but still it has to be recovered rather than released.

That's why you should go to any A/C service point and empty your A/C system before doing anything with it.

You'll still probably get traces of the gas, but it's as good/safe as possible.

Then you can flush system, refurb pump, without damage to environment and/or your health.

Just don't make my mistake and before going for regas fill it manually with required amount of oil.

  9. JDM celica, i found one being broken in Ireland 2 hours ebay browsing to find one....

I was hoping guts will fit my blue plastics, and base is 100% compatible, but non PF mirror housing is different.

Plugs the same, but folding signals go where heating is in T-Sport.

I'll have both with extra 2 pin connector.

  10. I want my ac purged and refilled but need to find a specialist cuz I don't trust anyone else with it.

DIY I'm afraid. There should be procedure in full workshop manual.

You can get system emptied for £10 at halfrauds to do the job without releasing all that shit into atmosphere.

Fill it with oil when you finish and go for refill to any halfbrained a/c service.

  11. I'll never forget A/C refiling at halfrauds after condenser and dehumidifier change. I gave them manual saying they have to put 60grams of oil in. They run machine in automatic mode 12 times, 11 times there was 0g of oil recovered 5g put in, last run it showed 1 g recovered, 5 put in. A..oles tried to charge for 12 A/C top-ups £420, claiming that it's impossible to put in more than 5g a time, had to print machine manual to prove them wrong!!!
