So is that 381 to a tank full?

Perhaps 400 miles(ish) maybe a little more. I topped up once I saw the light come on but I understand theres quite a few miles left once the light shows. I'm not sure if I may have done some kind of harm by letting the light stay on for 15 miles or so though because now it seems like my automatic choke is staying on. I am still running at around 1500 revs even after 30 or so miles of driving at all times of the day. I'm hoping I havent done her any harm...

Hmm, not the result I was expecting, or hoping for...

I don't speed, I dont even drive hard and this is the mileage from a full tank. The fuel warning light came on about 3 miles ago

Not too impressive at all is it? I'm not sure whether its because I enjoy driving the old thing as much as I do, or for some other reason, but it just doesnt feel thirsty to me on a day to day basis. But, theres the numbers. It took me a while to finish as I was away for a while.

I never understand the Prius tyres comment (unless it's sarcasm that I have missed), because as far as I know GT86's have 215/45 R17 tyres which is exactly the same as a Gen 7

After many trials in doing 500+ miles on a full tank

Here we go after 200(ish) miles. 4X15 motorway runs, 3 or 4 runs up to my local village and half an hour of my grandaughter feeling her feet around my bottom paddock (about 20 miles on dryish grass) - thats not the pre-cursor to an excuse because she was pleasingly gentle on the pedal.

Couple of days later (100 miles ish), four 15 mile motorway journeys and about a dozen or so 2, 3 or 4 mile journeys up to and around about the village, through traffic, for coffee or shopping...

Thanks for your advice Old Red Celica. It was much more of an issue than I would have thought it would be but at least I have power to that socket now.

Its a little big though and to be honest I preferred the unobtrusive look of my little original lighter. But, when I plug that in - its brand new still, having never been used, When it heats up it doesnt just pop out, it shoots out and bounces around the interior. Also, when I remove the sat nav the whole unit comes with the lead as it will not seat securely AND I had to cut two of the plugs

to make it compatible with my existing wiring set up. so, I think I am going to contact ams on the forum and ask him to supply me a genuine OLD Toyota part.

This is my original part and its obvious its never been used so I am assuming its original...

You were right about the white flash going through the cable to identify it as earth. The same goes for green with a white flash so I am assuming its throughout the whole electrical system - without taking that for granted.

Yes, after reading up much about Ams on the forum here, I realise now that I should have gotten in contact with him first.

I'll know if its sorted tomorrow or Sunday, I havent had the time to fit it yet but I will let you know.

Thats what I'll do. My kids - and grandkids - used to talk about LEDs. But, theyve all settled down to what they drive off the forecourt these days. I dont for 1 minute want to be like them. But, if I buy the bulb that rectifies the fault on the left side of my speedo, the display will still look pretty dim - as does the whole dash display now.

I'd like it brighter, quite a bit brighter. But not sure I'd want to go the super bright LED route.

Need to read more and enlist the help of some celica-club users if I can...?

Your test won't work - as other people clearly have access to your car, and refuel it without telling you, the figures will be pretty meaningless.

It will work fine. The only reason I found out that she had put some fuel in was because I happened to mention that I had started to count the miles covered so that I could take part in JOHNTAYLOR32s post - she then pointed out that I should add the amount she had put in. Apparently she was going up to the village to get me some supplies and as the car was here and the weather was hot, she left hers here and took the opportunity to do a little roof down driving.

Only i will be driving the car for the duration of the test...

I can't get that mileage from my gti - and that also has a 50 ltrs lpg tank, I smell a wind up.

Had a chance to catcth a chat with my eldest daughter today. When I'm not here they let themselves in and mess my stuff around and stock my fridge like im an invalid.

...anyway, a few days ago my eldest took my car down to the shops (about 3 miles) and put either 20 or 30 pound in the tank - she cant remember - so the figure I gave you is obviously not right, but not too far out me thinks...?!

I am interested now to see what my car can do to a tank because so far I am seriously impressed with every single thing about the old girl.

So, tonight I have topped her up again - brimful - and I will keep a record of the kind of driving I am doing and the length of my journeys etc and take a pic of the needle+milo when I am low on fuel (I took one already when I filled up and re-zeroed the Milo

Same pic without flash on...I'd like to brighten the display but everything I have seen advertised promises fairground type brightness but is all I want is something akin to the brightness it showed when the car came out.

Does anyone know what would normally be used by the blank that I have circled in this pic, its obviously an extra that I haven't got but might be something I may want in the future.

That bit just clips to the rear of the lighter socket and keeps the bulb n stuff tidy. Have you checked the power supply at the plug that goes onto the lighter socket AND the earth?

Thanks pal, I just borrowed a voltmeter so I will pop out at lunch time and check it. The bulb functioned ok when I flicked on the headlights and the connectors are two spade connectors hhoused inside a plastic block connector. Is one of those the earth?

Theres a reason why I havent posted a picture of the inside of my bonnet. First thing you see is two big ugly rusty radiator brackets - and the rest is not exactly an oil painting to look at.

But so far... from a brimful tank - and I mean drip drip drip brimful, Ive got 735 miles of town n about driving, with two 15 mile motorway stints every day, and my needle is now between a quarter tank and the bottom line - Jeeeeez, I love this beautiful old girl!

Id want to keep my original keys and fob etc but wouldnt mind having a go at replicating a cobbled version of this for my gen 6 key just for the convenience of having less to carry around with me.

Can anyone help me with some advice on an issue I have in my generation 6 Celica please? I didnt post in the specific forum because I imagine that Toyota wont have much differences regarding cigarette lighters throughout most of their cars.

Mine doesn't work, and hasnt from the day I bought her.

I have checked the fuse - its fuse No 24 behind the under-dash panel, passenger side and sits at the bottom of the 2nd row from the left as you look at it. The fuse is fine and as it also runs my clock and music, I am sure of this because I pulled it and both stopped working until I replaced it.

I removed the gearstick gaiter and surrounding panel and all looks well with the connections, the little green LED that surrounds the lighter was dislodged but once I plugged it back in it lit up the rim of the lighter just fine.

If you look at the photo you will see a little piece that I found in the glovebox and it is obvious it goes over the lighter because of its shape. But I cant see anyway to get it onto the lighter without breaking the plastic.

My question is though, does anyone know whether the metal collar inside this bit of plastic creates some kind of connection or earth that enables the lighter to work. I can't tell by fiddling with it because as I say, it looks like the only way to get it on is to break something.

If I have to I will replace the lighter but I am trying to keep everything as original as possible on the car so any advice from anyone would be helpful please?

This is the part, it definitely doesnt go on from the front and there seems to be no way for it to remain fast once it goes on part way from the rear.
