  1. I bought grooved and drilled discs from MTec late 2013 and they've developed a horrible juddering when braking from very high speed. Quite horrible. I'm assuming they've become slight warped. They're being replaced soon. Independent outlet here in Hudds said he can get me a pair of Brembos for sensible money.

  2. I was charged £10 earlier this week to fit my tyre to my newly refurbished wheel, including new valve with the new rubber bit (whatever it's called) and balance at Just Tyres in Huddersfield. I watched them do the work and they observed notable care to ensure there were no nicks and scratches. Can't imagine doing such a speedy and effective job myself with whatever DIY equipment might be available.

  3. I was always told by my dad to turn the lights off once I'm on the driveway. That extra few seconds with the car running nothing but the engine before you switch it off really helps apparently

I believe it's because the battery's getting a last little charge if treated in this way. Over my many years of (winter) car ownership, I've never had to use additional devices to care for batteries. Maybe it's different if the car's not used for lengthy periods particularly in winter. My car gets used almost daily.

  4. I heard some advice a few years ago about preserving your battery in the winter especially if the car's being used for shorter journeys in the main. Switch off all electrics and maybe give a couple of light blips of the throttle or let the engine run for a few seconds and THEN turn off the engine. I'd imagine most batteries are pretty resilient if they're treated well in winter.

  5. Put it in neutral at lights; clutches should last for massive mileages but people just love to wear out the clutch bearings sitting in first gear at traffic lights. Never understood why.

  6. Wheel bearings can be quite pricey for these cars which makes it tempting to gravitate towards very much cheaper alternatives. Well I found this site which is full of horrors:

    http://www.made-in-c...eel bearing hub

Some entire hub assemblies on this site are selling wholesale for $1 and $2 each!! Probably put together in an airless factory unit by an underaged workforce who aren't allowed to take a comfort break without losing an hour's wages! Some of the photos of the items on a well known auction site also look like they've been lifted directly from one of these wholesale sites. Having reviewed this issue, I think I'd rather spend proper money on items which have been constructed by adults! I have to carry other people in my car and I think they deserve my respect.

Here's an interesting comment from someone who seems to know their stuff:
