  1. I've not got it yet but I'll probably get 3mm or 5mm

What is the material? Not all aluminium is created equal, and some grades are much gummier when cut than others...

I'm guessing you haven't got a CNC laser or waterjet cutter handy?

  2. The insurers will cover the car. It doesn't matter that much to them if its not taxed or non-MOT'd. As if you got caught its more money to them come renewal time due to the points you'd get. If you crash then they won't like it. But they'll insure a car that is SORN'd, as you're still coving it for theft, fire & damage.

Well it matters to my insurers - they refused point blank to cover it if the MOT has expired :wttc:

Guess it was time I shopped around for another insurer anyway...

  3. There is no minimum time limit on a SORN certificate; it’s all done by computer these days using the bar code or the V5 reference number. Dorris

Cheers - I was worried that I'd need the paperwork that proved I was SORN'ed to reapply for a disc.

Just got to see what my insurers will say about insuring an untaxed, unMOT'ed car now...

  4. Is there a limit to how short a time you can SORN your car for?

Mine won't run, so I can't pass an MOT, but I'm hoping it will run again in less than a month. I'm quite happy to SORN to avoid a fine, but I don't want to be stuck unable to reapply for a tax-disc once it's all back up and running again...

Ironically, I could probably pass everything but the emissions test, and my car is currently a zero-emissions vehicle!

  5. Its a real catch 22 this one.

Problem: Car costs a lot of money to run, so buy/build another car thats cheaper to run.

Result: Cost of buying/building another car outweighs the benifits of cheaper running costs.

Conclusion: Stick with the faff and V-power combination

I am thinking about getting an Emmerald ECU (sure this is contraversial), Droping the AFR would hopefully bring the same results as disconecting spark plugs, but without the power loss and rough running. Still costs a bit though, but comes under "mods" so that makes it cool.

Disconnecting sparkplugs and injectors removes the fire from cylinders completely - leaning out the AFR does not - IIRC it generally makes your engine run hotter and risks causing detonation or melting something. Modulating your right foot is probably your best bet - I can get anywhere between 60 and 35mpg in my 1L Yaris depending on how I drive it...

  6. Should be Longlife pink on a Gen 7.

Last time I ordered some, they had to look it up - there was apparently a switch from red to pink or vice-versa depending on the model year...

I'd just like to say a big thank you to Sheep and another club memeber who contacted me by PM (and so I presume wants to remain nameless?) to quote me for the parts I need.

I'm still not 100% sure what I'm going to do yet, but I'm very glad to see the club-spirit is alive and well. In fact, I'm feeling rather guilty about my affair with newcelica.org

  7. There are at least three Toyota dealers listed in the CCUK member discounts thread..

Thanks - I might give them a ring, but several of the posts say 'not special order parts' - and half a 2ZZ-GE is definately special order ;)

Could talk to Kings Lynn Toyota in Norfolk, one of the parts guys owns a GT-Four, and one of the techies used to own one, never know they might help

Thanks - that's probably my most local - well, apart from my local one which won't give discounts...

  8. All very interesting thoughts, but still should not prevent us asking for a Forum. The majority of vert owners answering on the lost thread wanted a Forum & I think its useful for us to try & justify why on this thread. I'm sure when they've spotted the new thread we will get some further opinions.

It may be that a sticky in GD is enough to keep the key vert information safe.

some previous vert-related threads (ln1234 had more)

Surely this club must have some rules? :D If it's just a case of getting enough members to vote for it, then bring it on and let democracy decide it...

  9. I don't really see the harm in it if it will stop them moaning that they haven't got a forum, but as Arvi says, it might open the floodgates.

Perhaps all the classifications need a re-jig? When I want to ask about a mod, should it go in the mod forum, or the Gen-7 forum so as not to bore all the gen 1-6 owners? But hey, it's sort of audio related, so should it go in there? :D

What will happen to 5th gen convertable owners who are interested in a soft-top mod? Where would they post?
