Does the TNS dvd unit just plug in ? See there are a few on eBay, does it give you the facility to punch postcode in ?? And does it work with std nav head unit ?
The post codes are a nope, apparently whoever built the map software didn't pay for them which is a pain, and uskng the rotary knob for input is not particularly intuitive. That said the reason I went for it is OEM integration with the standard facelift head unit and so I never have to worry about attracting tea leafs. Definitely not as good as your phone but it does help. The TNS 300 is a straight swap, though you'll need an extra aerial if you want the TMC (ETA) tuner.

Re the OEM Sat Nav they can be updated to the TNS300 DVD with the Tmc option and the last CD availableis around 2011 as far as I've been able to find. Works fine enough for me and saves me piddling about with a touch screen while driving.

This was exactly where I got to but came to the same conclusion as bumblebee above. Do you hear a thud when you brake in reverse?

It's the official Toyota ones, i'd bought from them a while back (along with boot tray and cargo net) - definitely the ones with Celica up the side of the drivers heel - not what you see in that picture.

Just fitted mine today. 5000k 35w and gives off nothing but white. Looks the business. Thanks for taking the time to do the write up and maintain it with the side lights etc. This and the wiki saved me a lot of temper tantrums

Thanks alot for the detailed reply Kev, very useful, I'll bookmark the link for later. I'll have to hold off until the spring now but I'll give it an assessment when I get a spare weekend for the time being.

TNS310 disc for the factory sat nav, Toyota EPC and a JL cleansweep for cheap...
Just need the weather to fit it all now. Will report back next year.

Apologies for thread jacking.
Kev, you mention "treating accordingly" for rust - I can see it being a problem on mine as I literally live at the beach - can you point out any recommended advice/guides for this? I've seen some say grind it down, others use rust converters and other just slap waxoyl over the top of it.

Pretty sure the GT doesn't have the CD changer port required to do this.
