  1. I'd trust Mr Woods' judgement on that one. Many bits on Toyotas are interchangable.

On the many searches i did come across the Hilux snap ring, but didnt know if it was the same size, from the pictures it does look very similar. fingers crossed that this is problem solved :)

  2. Cheers Ash, someone from the DC showed me the springmasters place, looks like I will be the proud owner of 300 snap rings soon :)

I dont suppose you could find out the dimensions of the snap rings for me? mine is in several pieces and quite hard to get an accurate measurement from.

  3. On Toyo DIY there's a part number for 'RING, SNAP (FOR REAR AXLE SHAFT LH)' 90521-79002.

Same part number for the right hand one.

I did a google search and it looks like the snap ring that goes in the centre of the hub to keep the wheel bearings in place.

  4. I have the EPC at home and cant see it listed seperately, they list a snap ring, but it is for the inner CV joint i ordered it and when it arrived it was totally wrong, I have tried several sources and all say the same thing, not available separately from the dealers, or it seems anywhere else for that matter, its frustrating hell, as you say its a more or less consumable item.

  5. Does anyone know where I can get snap rings from? In the process of removing the rear CV joint to clean it up I broke the snap ring in half, Toyota do not sell them, you have to buy the full CV joint, I can find anywhere that does them, getting very desperate now as the rebuild is at a halt without them.

This is what I am after, its the rear outter CV joing for a faff

    thanks in advance.

  6. I have used POR15 alot, it sticks well to rusty surfaces or sand blasted surfaces, like glue in fact, but it does not stick well to clean metal surfaces, you then need something called "metal prep and ready", also by PO15. It will stick to painted surfaces, but it only then as good as what you are painting over, and also wont offer the same rust protection, best to start with bare metal. 2 coats about 8 hours apart, you must do 2 coats though, one is not enough.

If you are doing lots of small items over a period of time, buy the 6 pack of small tins, once opened it dosnt last that long and develops a skin which is pretty solid. also DO NOT SHAKE THE TINS.....EVER. and read the instructions very carefully, they are very specific and should be followed to the letter.

There is also a product called "Eastwood Chassis Extreme", now I prefer the Eastwood products that I have tried so far, they seem as good as the POR15 products but are a little more forgiving to apply and use, they are also cheaper. If they are as good long term, only time will tell.

See my build thread for how it looks once applied.

  7. I found a place that hires transit van type car carriers to transport my project shell, although that had wheels, you will have to make a trolley or something to enable you to easily move it around. or find someone with one o those trucks with a hydraulic arm on it to lift it on.

There isnt really a cheap option for this though unless you have a friend that can help. Its going to cost you a couple of hundred quid.

Edit - I used these guys and drove it myself http://www.transporterhire.co.uk/

  8. I am looking for a dry cell battery that will suit my needs, (I want to start building the enclosure for it so need the dimensions)

Other than the normal operations of the car, I will be running quite a good sound system, I dont want to go too over the top, there will only be a radio, and a couple of small amps to power.

Any recommendations as to which battery to use and where best to install it, right at the back of the boot, where the back seats used to be? somewhere else?

    cheers

  9. The best garage by far is MK Autos in Blackburn

    http://www.celica-club.co.uk/forum/index.php?/forum/224-mk-auto-repairs-and-tuning-ltd/

Martin is unsurpassed when it comes to Celicas, there are many good garages that are Celica specialists but Martin goes that extra mile that makes the difference between a good garage a great garage. The only place I take my Celica to when I find a job I cant do myself....or cant be bothered to do myself. :) :)

Well worth the trip no matter where you are in the country.

  10. I wouldnt bother, just leave it taxed, if the winters not that bad you can take it out for a spin if the fancy takes you, road tax isnt that much, its not really going to save you a fortune. Plus you can take it for a run every now and then to keep everything turning nicely. Worst thing I ever did was lay the Faff up for a few months, I'll never do it to a car ever again.

  11. Always willing to help, unit is in Medway Kent ME4 5SE i dont have a transporter but must be a way of getting to hire one or loan from somebody, offer is open for as long as needed.

if you need any advice or have any questions drop me a pm or call me, business number is 01634 714710.

    all the best

Excellent, I cant thank you enough, I am almost certain to take you up on that offer, when the time comes I will be in touch, I dont expect it to be soon (as in the next few months) as I will need to do a few other things first, hopefully get it to a rolling shell which will make things easier, I will PM you later on with a paint code and some advice on prep before hand. Thanks again, if this site had a "thanks" button I would press it :)

  12. I could do the job for £1k, cant put you up but you could find a hotel close by and spend a few days in the shop with us so you could ensure we did it right for you and you could also have a hands on approach if that helped, teach you a bit of flatting and prep and then polishing up. worth a thought, we could do the whole job in a couple of days as long as we worked the booking right.

That's very generous! I will definitely keep that in mind. Where abouts are you? The main problem is getting the car to you, the hire cost of a car transporter adds a few hundred quid to the cost.
