  1. Here ya go Mr daytona. These things can be a pain in the arse to to get a decent picture as they reflect light, but this should show what you got.

    cap5.jpg

I confirm the photos do not do them justice

.........and despite cocking up the ordering............

the Eibachs have arrived :D :D :D just as well. Booked into garage to fit tomorrow. Phew!

  2. Yeah, we've all done it, well most of us.

My "bad" (doncha just hate current street slang? Or I am just showing signs of age? Rhetorical question guys.....)

anyway every flaming bike I bought in the eighties came with the godawful strangulating alpha aftermarket pipes. Bin! Replace with a Motad was the usual route but on the old tea trolley XS1100 Yam I had they couldn't get delivery sorted for a couple of weeks so I just ripped out the baffle and had an unrestricted 4 into 1 straight through. OMG what a racket and as for the backfire. Hysterical.

Then I grew up. A bit. I am now regressing, again. Oh dear.

  3. catch 23 from pedantic lawyer. The joke is the exhausts are legal in the box but only becomes illegal when fitted to a car that had a prviously quieter exhaust. So if the aftermarket system fits 2 cars it could be legal on one and illegal on the other depending on the relative noise outputs before and after fitting. How many people know the Db output of the original system? How many aftermarket sellers could tell you the Db of the replacement system on your car when fitting, before you have bought it? OOoooooo I'd say approx zero.

"The law is a ass- a idiot" Mr Bumble.

  4. Very well played sir! Barring a miracle that was as good as you were going to get. Most of the magistrates and court clerks do a pretty reasonable job given the pond life they have to deal with all day and the shackles they are subject to. When they get someone articulate who has done their homework being pursued by a couple of lazy plod they can see whats going on. However the fitting of most custom style exhausts is simply illegal under this legislation. Sad but true.

  5. gear box isn't strongest feature. Mine and a lot of others struggle to get 2nd to 3rd without dropping out of lift. Rarely a major problem. I'm told I'm doing it wrong, stop slamming accross the gate give it a nanosecond pause and push it in positively, yeah right..... Most report improvement with a quality oil change and if you are quick you can hop onto a group buy from se7ven who are doing some brass bushes which have a reputation for significant improvement,. only about 20& fitting. Some swear by short shifters but don't get a cheap one.

  6. I do not know the family history of the 140 engine as I have yet to see it posted in a reply to this type of question. Suffice to say I am content to know the 190 is the basis of what goes in the Lotus Elise. The Gen 7 being much heavier isn't going to get anywhere near one due to bhp/tonne ratio, but it's a good heritage. Toyota/Yamaha gem. According to most stats I have seen to 0-62 on a 140 is around 8.5 and the 190 is around 7.2. Top speed not THAT high 140 ish. Like 99% of us are actually going to find out? You have 6 gears to choose from. Firt to 40, second to 60 3 rd to 80 4th to being banned! There's plenty of power for everyday driving esp when you learn where the lift is and that's just practice practice practice. ;) Economy is similar until it switches cams at 6200 and then it gets thristy. So name me a car that doesn't drink a bit when your right foot is in the carpet? With this little beaut at least you have the choice. Neither engines have a fat lot of torque. They were not designed as caravan pullers. They are revvy little 1800's with all but the early 140 being engineered to last for ages even if you give em the beans. There are gear ratio differences and I THINK it was with the TSport that the upgrades like Traction control came in which for most of us not related to the Stig makes rapid progress smoother and less tyre wearing ( the track guys are all now making strange wrist movements at their screens ;) I honestly don't care I bought my car for me and I adore it).

If you look at the torque curves it does go a little flat around 5 hence the best mod in the real world is the stage 2 cams to improve the pre lift range generally but at around 600 most of us just put up with it, oh the shame of it! But then you don't get the shove in the back as you DO hit 6200 and that's half the fun, getting into the lift and staying there whilst hanging onto your seats, and licence.

  7. Great thanks I'll get some tonight.

Just booked garage slot for 5 June by which time Eibachs will be there (and me knob light!). Freaky spacers and myk brake brace already are. goodyear 215s go on Saturday..............Vinyled dash being refitted Sunday, then fit the decals and polish its nuts off with new polisher(which I bought at the weekend and my bloody son nicked on Monday!!

and relax................. then follows 2 weeks hols to enjoy it and sort out any final wrinkles before she meets her public at Jonnyboys barbie in August.

  8. Can be a bit confusing for old duffer newbies to this scene like myself, but there's certain childish pleasure in it. Nice to have a bit of experienced help to save silly and costly feck ups too.

Car looks no different yet and will only be v v lightly modded compared to what you lot get up to, but most parts arrived or ordered and should be fitted within next 3 weeks and it will be just a tad lower, wider, darker, bluer etc. Not so it shrieks "MODDER" just so as a knowledgeable chap would go "Hmmmm whats he done there then? Ooo Nice"

    Now

what about that paint for the chips on the rims????
