Hi guys,
I'll start by apologising for this post, it genuinely is a bit of a 'what's my car worth' post.
The reason I ask is because I've not sold a Gen 6 is many years, think my last one sold in 2014. At that point, the prices were a lot lower and there were many more available. I have tried comparing mine to others for sale but I honestly don't know what I should be asking for it. I paid £1400 for it last summer and it had been 'modified' in a non-tasteful manner. Since I took ownership of it I have spent a lot of time and money putting the car as right as I can, I really want to see the car live on with a good owner and {preferably} stay in the club. I know you never get your money back with these things but I just wanted to give the car a new lease of life.
Anyway I'll stop rambling, the car's current situation is this...
UK Model GT
New Cambelt and Water Pump
New Alternator
New Battery
New Thermostat
Recent Oil and Filter, Air Filter and Spark Plugs
Cleaned throttle body and IACV and replaced gaskets
New Fuel Filler Neck
I've also done a lot of de-modding and taking things back to an original (or as close to) as possible. The bodywork isn't great and could do with some TLC. Usual surface corrosion underneath but nothing major.
It has just over 11 months MOT and just hit 190,000 miles.
The only mechanical issue left with it is that on a long drive, the temperature needle will rise to red (usually under load/up hill) and when it reaches red, will drop back down and then hover between 'normal' and red but never actually overheating properly.
Apologies again for the nature (and length) of this post, I'm actually more interested in finding the right buyer for the car than I am the price but at the same time, I do need a starting point for an asking price without asking too much. I'm also not really sure where to sell it as I've had some issues with people on eBay in the past.
Any help or advise as always is much appreciated.
Cheers

Just watched this video on the Car Throttle YouTube channel. Thought it would be of some interest

Had my first 'nice car' compliment on Friday at a petrol station, it was the first time I'd taken the car out with the new alloys I just got.
The guy said as I got out the car to fill up:
"Ahh nice car, love it! Where did you find one of these?"
We spoke for a minute or two while filling up and he ended the convo with:
"Shame about the wheels though, should of kept the originals"

I had the exact same fail on an MOT a few years back. The place I took it to had their MOT's done at the Kwik-Fitt down the road which I didn't realise beforehand.
Another MOT tester shouldn't be so picky, I took mine elsewhere in the end and all was fine.

Hi guys,
I've been thinking of getting an aftermarket steering wheel for my Gen 5. I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for one, I know I'll need a boss kit too so any advice with that would be great.
I've been looking at the cheap ones on eBay to get ideas, anyone know if they are any good?
-
I got mine from demon plates. Decent quality, but you will need to send a scanned image of your v5
Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk
Same here. Decent price and good quality

Hi guys,
As most Gen 5 owners will understand, I have some rust issues underneath and on the sills.
I'm looking to add some protection to it in the next few weeks but am unsure which product would be best?
My favourite so far from looking online is CarPlan Tetroseal Wax Oil Rustproofing, if anyone has any recommendations it would be much appreciated.

Hi guys,
When I first signed up back in 2012 I got sent some club stickers as part of the welcome pack.
I remember they were decent quality and transferred on to the window well.
I just went to buy some from the club shop and the reviews sound like they are different now, like they are a rectangular sticker rather than a transfer and are poor quality?
Just wondering if anyone can tell me if they are significantly poor in comparison to a few years back?
Cheers

Thanks guys, I'll have another go tomorrow.
I did pop in to ATS but the bloke wanted £20 to change the valve, he wouldn't consider doing anything else.
-
If it's one of those stainless type sleeves it should just pull off when the cap's off
It is one of those yeah. I've tried pulling at it but didn't wanna go too hard incase I broke the valve. Can the valve take a fair bit of pulling if I try a bit harder?
Hold the body of the valve with mole grips, remove the valve cap with pliers.
Sorry I wasn't very clear. It's like a sleeve covering the valve rather than the cap itself

Hi guys,
Got a fairly stupid problem at the moment. One of the tyres of my Gen 5 has a alloy-style cover/sleeve over the tyre valve.
Because of this, I can't get the tyre inflator on to the end of the valve to pump up the tyre.
Was just wondering what the best way to remove this cover is? I didn't wanna mess with it too much incase I damage the valve.
Cheers,
Dave

It was definitely the wrong one. After some googling it appears it was for a Mazda 323 and some Mitsubishi's. I compared it to the CV boot already on the car and it was way off size-wise.
When I took it back to Euro Car Parts they insisted it was the right one, so I'd advise against buying a CV boot from Euro's if you have a Gen 5.
Thanks for the help guys

Glad to see you walk away from this mate, very lucky by the sounds of it.
I said I wouldn't get another Celica after my 2nd one, bought my 4th one last week. Very addictive cars.
All the best to you

Two wipers and 5 litres of oil just arrived, I'm very excited

go back throw it at him and say you got it so wrong go back to school lol then just ask for a universal one
Haha! I'm gonna take it back on Tuesday. Managed to get a universal one today from GSF gonna attempt to fit it on Monday

LOL. Eurocarparts at their best
That's not the right boot kit. Go to TCB parts http://www.tcbparts.co.uk/
Click on suspension/Steering .......Choose ST182 and scroll down to the CV boot required.
That's the one you need
Brilliant. I did question the bloke to confirm this was the right kit and he assured me it was.
Reason I got it there was I was hoping to do it this weekend.
Thanks for the heads up mate, hate Euro Car Parts lol

Do not use supplied grease on the cone. Washing up liquid or minimal amount of wd40 work far better. Half axle stay in place.
Never done this on gen5 but usually you can disconnect half axle from hub without disconnecting lower ball joint.
to disconnect ball joint you'll need one of below, which one depends on gen5 wishbone/hub construction:
type fu..d ball joint do not use unless replacing ball joint
Thanks very much that's really helpful
It's much appreciated

That's very kind but sadly I'm in Gloucestershire and the car has no MOT.
Thank you though and thanks for the link

Hi guys,
This week I bought a Gen 5 ST182 and am hoping to get it through its MOT before the free retest runs out.
One of the things it failed on was a deteriorated Nearside Front CV Joint Gaiter.
I've looked on Euro Car Parts and there is a kit on there for nearly £60 but seems to include both sides and I'm not sure it's even the right one I need.
During my search I also found this:
http://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/split-cv-gaiter-kit
This seems to be just the job. I've never done this sort of job before and the garage want £120 to supply and fit one.
I'm just wondering if anyone has used this particular kit before?
Or if anyone could point me in the direction of a better kit and any advise on actually doing the job would be brilliant.
Thanks guys

Cheers for the links guys.
There seems to be a few options, I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi all,
I'm having a bit of an issue with removing a set of alloys as I don't have the locking wheel nut.
A 19mm socket sort of fits over it but it's not turning at all.
Anyone ever had this before? Is there anything I can use to get them off?
Cheers,
Dave

I got 5 quid a wheel for my GT wheels with tyres. I've been told that's about standard.

Me too. I paid more for it in the first place and spent a year doing lots of work to it. Someone has got a bargain. I'm just more disappointed it's not staying in the club but hopefully the new owner will keep it going for years to come.
