  1. My opinion, 'If it aint broke...'

If you do manage to find a bargain on the current/ possibly outgoing ones then snap it up and save a little. Tried and tested and you know yor still getting quality, unless ofcourse Sawyer comes back to say the new ones will do everything the old did but last 10x longer

  2. I think I've hid directs kit in both my car and partners fiesta. Ballasts and wiring all seem as good as any, nice and slow and the digital sort, their kits are well priced too.

I did buy a cheaper set for the celica originally from an ebay seller and they were awful in every way, poor ballast and the complete wrong colour with worse than halogen light output.

My only criticism toward hid direct, and I think I saw another member with the same issue, is there is not always a great deal of quality control with the bulbs. I noticed the supplied ones weren't quite matching shades of '5000k', seeing one more yello than the other. Customer service was fine and they agreed to exchange a couple of times but I eventually got fed up and ordered some upgrade bulbs, which have been fine in both cars for well over a year now.

  3. The pirellis my car had on when I bought it had the same advisory note 'out of shape'

When I switched the wheels over I could see a massive difference in wear on the inside edges. The cars lowered on coilovers and had a lot of negative camber at the back, causing the wear.

I'm now back of eagle F1's and think I got at least 15k out of the last set :)

  4. Correct Geraint, for most, a standard battery in good working in order is adequate.

However, There are folk, as mentioned who will pile their cars with speakers and other extra electronic wizardry and or may be in the habit of running electrics while the engine is switched off, which could potentially drain the battery beyond it's starting capacity, for example my Dads VW camper is fitted with a separate leisure battery, he can park up for the weekend, enjoy as much radio as he likes and still drive home sunday evening.

To the OP, if you are for whatever reason looking for a serious upgrade over standard, then look for the OPTIMA brand, they are well respected in the car audio scene, but are a little pricey.

Be sure to check the physical dimensions with your existing battery too! I purchased a Bosch battery last year, using Euro Car Parts, and chose the most powerful of the two choices I had only to find it wouldn't fit in the engine bay!

  5. Getting a set of theses fitted as we speak, £100 a corner fitted from blackcircles.

I'd warn people to note the load rating of tyres in this size and know what they're ordering as the majority are 'XL' in this size, which the celica doesn't really need. This means sidewalks are stiffened for heavier cars.

Admittedly comparing different brands, but I had extra load Toyos and found the ride a little on the harsh side, when these ran out I then moved to eagle F1's standard load and the ride was a lot smoother without compromising on cornering, the koni kit took care of that.

  6. Saw this a while ago as I was searching autotrader.

It looks a lovely example, the gen 7 red interior fits perfectly and gen 6 wheels, look tidy without being out of keeping with the car.

I'd not be surprised if it was ex CCUK. The verts aren't my favourite shape, they look very US in my opinion, but I couldn't stop looking at that one.

  7. I checked my service history after buying the car and I don't think my plugs were changed until I put it in for its 60k service!

Tbh, the plugs may last 60k but I doubt they'd be at their optimum far past 10k, I'll probably change mine again soon.

  8. I bought used Koni yellows with springs to suit and they,ve been superb. Probably covered 20k in 18 months without fault, on top of whatever abuse they may/ may not have seen previously.

They cost me around the same as a set of eibach springs would have, so got a bargain.

I've never bothered adjusting the damping force as they felt perfect already, very comfy over bumpy stuff, but planted in corners too.

I think the availability of well priced decent coil overs these days is the only thing stopping these from being more popular. A definite winner if you can get a good used set.

  9. Ford Fiesta OEM flat blades on mine :D They work a treat, and the blades are still going strong after 18 months of use! They also clear the full length of the blade, unlike flat retrofits. Even Bosch failed to impress me.

I got really sick of flat retrofits needing changed every couple of months, and realised my girlfriends Fiesta (12 plate / mk7) used the same size, so i robbed them including the arms!

Replacing the arms on her car with new bits from ford wasnt cheap. I Don't think there was any change from £100 after getting the blades too, but i'd say if you went down the ebay or scrappie route they'd be cheap enough.

Genuine blades don't cost the earth and when they need replacing they can be found without needing to order them in and wait a week for delivery.

  10. No where for nearly a month now :(

I'll be doing a 300 mile (each way) trip to aberdeen shortly for a training course, despite some of my colleagues doing the same thing in my hometown! Quite looking forward to the run out though

I love how many are using Celica's as daily drives. They may not be the most practical/ Economic in this day and age, But it think it proves they are worthwhile in so many other ways!

  11. On the Gen 7:

The utility plug is located exactly where reverse is on the 6-speed. So when my sat nav is plugged in, there will be no reversing!

You can get near flush fit USB sockets for power from the cig lighter, then use USB cable for sat nav power, which again is alot less chunky than the normal cig lighter power adapter.

Griffin make a double USB thing for about a £10 sold in tesco. No doubt cheaper on Ebay.

I'm currently not liking that my Celica is overseas in another country, and the missus has the keys!!

  12. that's easy solved, send it up to Mondo B)

Agreed, been on my "to do" list for a while, but other spends have always got in the way.

I could do with more main straight power.

    Supercharger ;)

squeaks and rattles from the rear

Putting some electrical tape around the boot catch really helps with that, as does making sure theres nothing that can rattle around in the under-mat storage trays.
