  1. Digging up an old post, and I’ve not been here for a while myself, but I have pretty much the same issue as described above.

I could hear the rubber flapping against the ARB when rolling. I’ve trimmed it off to stop the noise, but does anyone know what the rubbers actual function is?

It just seems like plain metal underneath it.

I think the only fix would be a new driveshaft, which is tempting anyway, just not sure crucial it actually is.

    Can anyone advise?

  2. Yes still have them and they're going strong!

worth the extra money in my opinion, though perhaps quite expensive looking at first.

those you've posted may be fine, although the first thing I see is they'll only really provide a single spot in the headlight as they've just the one projector and no side fill LED chips.

  3. Do the new F1's come in 205/45/17? I've ran 215/45 for long enough but always thought the old As2's weren't available in standard Celica size anyway.

I've recently put AS3's on the rear of mine, they have a slightly different slap about them side on compared to the old. Need to swap them to front to really find out how the compare.

As per the OP, it's interesting to hear that an Eco tyre also performs well compared to a more dedicated sports tyre.

    Nice find!

  4. Dragging this thread up again as LED sidelights can be such a minefield with dodgy cheap bulbs and ebay sellers that dont know what they're talking about..

Both my own car and the Wifes fiesta were suffering from dead LED so i ordered some COB style ones to test out, as i couldn't find Kolite anywhere.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151759772607?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&var=450956209934&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

They proved a total waste of time, I'd opted for the 'white' ones advertised and out of four i couldn't find one matching white pair, some even showed different colours per side one a sinlge bulb, and some were almost purple.

My latest purchase in think i've finally found some worthwhile with Ring Premium LED 501's

    http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/501-Ring-Premium-LED-12V-W5W-Canbus-Wedge-Bulbs-Pair.html

They cost more than your average bulb and i'd previously been put off paying for branded ones as they always advertise 6000k temp, whilst my HIDs are 5000k and white.

in reality they look like this:

    AFDF0BD5-F581-488E-ABB5-BEB853E4ABB1_zps

They're incredibly bright and they perfect colour, the LED chips are uniform and appear the same in both pairs I've fitted. They also come with a 5yr Guarantee, which should mean they'll last too.

  5. I've been using the AS2's for while now, bought two full sets and just had a front pair put on before the new year.

They're fantastic whilst it's dry and very good in the wet. They're quiet too which is something i've always looked out for since getting the Celica.

I'd actually agree with what Ant has to say about his experience with F1's, they do seem to spin up very easily from a standing start, and we're not talking about full on race launches either.

They do wear well, i must've had almost 15k out of my last front pair and that was without a tyre rotation. It should be noted however that you can feel the difference in grip once worn to about 3mm, so that's when it's time to replace, despite still being 'legal'.

No experience of rainsports i'm afraid, although as above they work well for alot of people.

  6. As above, tyre search engines always seem to list XL rated ones first for 215/45/17, I've always dug a little deeper and bought standard load rating, quieter FAR comfiest and even a couple of quiz cheaper in the case of Eagle F1's.

The above prices are pretty good for a well respected tyre. Just take into account the cost of delivery and fitting when buying tyres alone. Great if you know a place that'll take less than £10/ per wheel, not so good if they start asking £15 as I've once had. A lot of places seem a bit snotty when supplying your own.

  7. May be worth giving the wiring a glance over if you feel it's a little too frequent.

Brighter halogen bulbs are known to have a shorter life expectancy on average.

In the years I've ran with a HID kit every bit of it has been fine, could be time to upgrade??

  8. Good result all in, probably pretty close to what it had from factory. I assume it's been kept well serviced in order to keep it that way?

Seeing torques measured in Ft-lb really highlights how feeble the 2zz-ge is, 140 ft-lb is just about enough for a 3/4" diameter bolt!

  9. I'd be more concerned about the. FR and FL difference than the difference between front and rear. Seem strange that they're set different across an axle.

The rear arch on the other hand I think may actually be a slightly different shape than the front anyway so that could could account for the smaller measurement there.

I've never had much much to do with corner weighting but I would guess the theory is to balance the car so that each wheel carries a preset amount of weight. As you say the garage often do such set ups, it could be that they've went as far as to compensate for drivers weight and that there seems to be a little more engine on that side of the bay, without really looking at ride height as a standalone.

Just ask yourself if your happy with how it drives and how it looks? If either one is a no, then I'd be looking at taking it back and asking them to make the necessary adjustments, after all, for what you've paid you should be looked after by them afterwards too.

  10. I'm inclined to agree with sly on that last point the popularity of turbo'd hot hatches is good proof of it.

I'm all for the GT 86 ethos, but price/performance is still a tough one to overcome when thinking of the Honda S2000, they are getting older admittedly but can be picked up for far less than any 86, with around 250hp of high revving N/a goodness, with FR drivetrain in a lightweight chassis, you can even put the roof down!

  11. on FF cars new rubber on front makes sense. on rwd cars new on back will give better traction but can cause oversteer if fronts cant keep up.

You've got a little mixed up there on over/ under steer there. Oversteer is always caused by the rear losing grip before the front regardless of drivetrain. If the fronts can't keep up in any situation you get understeer.

Personally I would put new rubber on the front of an FF car, but I understand that is against what is now recommended. My Celica's seem to have worn all 4 tyres fairly evenly so anyway, so I've always just bought 4!

I think better advice advice is to always buy tyres in pairs across axles as a minimum, and not mix brands or compounds as different tyres will behave in different ways, what you need is predictability and balance.

  12. Hmm can 2zz go into an 86?

As much as I love character of the 2zz it Seems rather redundant putting in an engine with less displacement torque and power.

I'd say it was unlikely that a gt86 being tracked would be bone stock either so I think David's comparison is quite fair.
