  1. I don't think I'll ever give up, I'm dedicated. haha. Nah I don't care if I get weird looks, I'm used to it!

Good on you mate, I always flash or wave, if i don't get a responce, well never mind, not everyone feels the same as we do about our cars, it's a fact of life, some of us care, we care a heck of alot more, it's not our fault that we hug our cars from time to time.

Plus according to a few, i'm having a mid life crisis, so be it, i'm happy! :D

  2. Squirting WD-40 won't do much really as the bolts seize in the bush collers.

I found that if you remove the back box and heat shield access is easier and you can get a bloody long bar on the nut and manipulate it back and forth until it moves (camber adjustment).

The rear toe cams should push against the small tabs on the arms but with the weight of the car on the suspension and the age of the metal, the tabs just bend but you can move the bolt by using channel lock grips to move the bolt the desired amount.

I have done this to many Celica's of this age but 2 hours is simply not enough time, that's why when people get quotes of 30-45 quid and say anymore is too much then I have to laugh. If garages are doing it for less and spending less than a couple of hours I would guess they are moving the gauges so the values look correct on the print out rather than spending time getting it right.

Mr T wasn't up for going any further, unless i was prepared to cough up more ££'s, so i shy'd away from them, not knowing how much it was going to cost me.

Still as ams has a good one (see message to TMOUSSE) I'll probably go with that.

Thanks for taking the time, much appreciated mate :)

  3. As ams said, replaced the sub frame to get round the problem but it's a case of finding a low mileage one. As for the camber and tyre wear, you've seen how much camber I've got and im getting very good tyre wear simply by having the rears slightly toed in. Don't ask why mind you, guy who aligned my wheels reccomended it. must have covered nearly 7000 miles now and still got loadsa tread left :)

Ha ha, Funny you should message me Tom, ams just done the same, telling me you had the same prob's with your car!

He's got an import one, the whole rear, 3,000 miles in very good nick for £150.00, and he can deliver to me as he has folks in Huntington he's visiting the first week in September, RESULT!

My local garage recons on leaving it as is,but, i know what i'm like, not happy unless things are as close to perfect as i can get, always like to give the car a chance to drive with maximum advantage to the driver, after all thats why we drive Celicas, so i think i'll probably go with it, it's only money!!!

Local garage will fit for £300.00, i dont know how many hours it takes, but is alot cheaper than Mr T ( £1000.00 + for new one and fitting)

Hope all is good with you and yours, Cheers Chris. :)

  4. Numbers dont look terrible mate, id be tempted too see how it goes, a lot of sports cars run more camber than that on the rears as stock

Cheers ams, just a bit worried that i'll be wearing out tyres quicker than i should, don't want to be buying new ones every 6-8 months, in saying that, i'm happy to stay with it as long as i'm not hurting/ putting too much stress on other ajoining parts and it costs me more in the long run.

  5. Hi all, Had car lowered on eibach springs about 250 miles ago, time for laser alinement.

Went to see Mr T, only one close to me with laser, quoted £84.50 over the phone, went with this , although steep price, told "you'll drive away straight and true" went back after 2hrs, only done the front, nuts and bolts on rear rusted on, so it was agreed i would go back the following day and they would have another go,for the same price, when i returned after another 2hrs the next day, the mechanic explained to me after he had WD40'd, heated and hit everything with a big hammer, still nothing moved.

Mr T manager and mechanic not happy to cut nuts off incase bolts still stuck," it could open a large can of worms" , New back axle, wish bones and bushes.

Now i don't mind spending money on my car, but with labour, £800.00'ish for the full works.

Went to my normal garage ( 2 man and cheaper) explained the story, they have told me to carry on driving the car but keep an eye on the tires for wear, then to assess the situation in 2/3 weeks.

Below are the figures from the laser alinement, thoughts anyone !?!?

  6. A lot of the people I go to wave at in a 7 around this way are mid 60's onwards. I wave at 6's and they wave back, mainly.

I think it's all to do with if you're in the club or not, i always flash, wave or thumbs up all Celica Gen's in my area, sometimes i get a reaction, sometimes not, and there are times i'm not concentrating when others sign me and i miss it :( I don't mean to, but there are times when we all have a s--t time at work and the last thing you're expecting is a flash, i don't take it too seriously, but i keep waving so hopefully one day everyone will respond :)

I'm 57 by the way, age has nothing to do with it, you're as young as the woman you feel ;) and the car you drive.

On the age thing, i hope i'm still driving my Celica when i'm in my 70's, I'll still wave at you DigitalG, because you drive a great car, respect to you sir B)

  7. I wave but people look at me like I am mental... dont think they get it lol.

    :wavey:

Problem I find is like about alot of people who drive them don't know one about the history of the celica, they just assume that the celica they have is the only one of its kind, and I'm sorry to say that's mostly the gen 7 owners and two don't know about this wonderful club :)

    You know i'm a Gen7 owner! ;)

  8. Well you know in back to the future 2 when doc comes back to get Marty to take him to the future because his kids are little shits, and when they get in the car and doc reverses backwards and Marty tell doc he needs to go back more cos he won't have enough road to get upto 88mph and doc says "roads? Where we are going we don't need roads!" and the cars wheels fold in and he takes off......... It's nothing like that :D

I knew i was going to get this! :P But i'm not going to be detramentle to you because you took 2 pic's of my car at Ace. :D

With new springs you wheels will be at different angles from on standard springs. Wheels aligment checks your cars wheels for their factory set angles. toe, and camber angles are the big ones and are adjustable.

Basically they will make your car run straight and handle as it should.

best bet is with a computerised 3D Geomotry Check with a rig like this.

have a look at this thread:

    Clickedy Click

Thanks Splinter, at least there's someone on here who can give a serious answer, :)

Cheers for the clicky, that clears that up. now all i have to do is sort out Danny boy ;)

  9. Not meaning to sound rude or anything, but you don't seem to know a great deal about cars asking questions like that The guys response is more likely to give him time to think up things he can sell you and tell you it will give you XX bhp increase Best place to ask is here, what we don't know isn't worth knowing about ;)

I'm probably behind slowjoe in the Q of car knowledge, this is probably a stupid question****** but,I've just had eibach springs fitted a week ago, done about 120 miles, so now i've got to have the geometry checked, please explain what this is!!! sorry i'm just a simple chef, i bow down to your far superior knowledge.

  10. C1 scoop for my G7 arrived today, 3 working days to get to me! Thanks to the team for a speedy delivery, scoop well wrapped, no damage (not with that much packaging!) Also supplied different size bolts, included in the price. Ray messaged me to say on way, good service, just messaged him to say scoop with me today, he got back to me to thank me for my business almost immedietly.

A Man, Team and Company on the ball, Cheers Guy's, Chris.

  11. I picked up a ludicrously cheap set from Car-parts-market on Ebay, something like 8 quid for a full set, can't fault them, no streaking or juddering...

I also have a set of these, I'm with Euan on this, 100 times better than what was on originaly, and for only £8.00.

Had them on for 4 months, no noise, cleans glass well on every wipe. hth.

  12. Hi all, So i had eibach springs fitted today, while the mechanic was having a check around, he noticed a small leak on the bottom corner of the radiator, talks took place, 12 years old, probably had its life, o.k. no probs.

I've seen posts on here in the past about Aluminum race/fast street radiators, i have a 2000 Gen 7 140, in good nick, plus i've done afew things, to make it mine. I don't mind spending more money on an aluminum one, but in your opinion, is it worth it, what extra will it give me for my money, if anything?

For a stock one approx £50- £60, Aluminum £190 Is it worth the extra cash? Thanks in advance Chris.

  13. I have a set of used apex springs for £70 plus post

Usual questions, how old, in good nick?

From the remarks on here, they are one of the best makes.

Is there anything else i have to worry about when getting these fixed?

Sorry for all the questions, just making sure :)

  14. When the engine is cold all the oil is in the sump. That is what you are measuring. The level should be at the top mark. If yours is below the bottom mark you are woefully low.

Ditto, also are you wipeing your dip stick with a cloth thats been used for polishing or waxing, that will give you broken/patchy reading, use clean kitchen paper, see if it makes any difference. hth.

  15. I've been to a variety over the last 18 months and it's been awesome. Always a laugh and it's good meeting new folk.

Any weekend in August at the moment - will need to check my on-call rota in July to see if itll clash with any weekends.

oaksey, can you set up an 'official' meeting post in the Meetings forum? We can gain interest while you wait to hear from landlords in Cambs for a location :)

ok mate i'll do that over the weekend, i'm off to Beccles tomorrow morning to purchase a Scorpion backbox from Christy off here, a 4 hour round trip, a good outing for the car haha,Between us i'm sure we'll make it happen, thanks for your support, I'll be in touch soon. Cheers Chris.

P.S. Any thoughts on where we meet, it has to be a fairly central spot so it's atractive to most people, the more the merrier!

  16. As above I am more than happy to come along whenever a Cambridge meet is arranged

Pubs are always a good idea. Backup in case the weather turns sour and also a way to move on when it gets dark later into the evening :)

My thoughts exactly, even if it rains all day we can still talk Celicas, everyone has info to pass on.

We need a few people to put their names forward to get the ball rolling, and of course a date and time we can all agree on.

For me i can make any Saturday in August at the moment.

Just need more to commit, come on guy's it's a good day where we can all soak ourselves in Celica stuff.

I've been to 1 or 2 meets and never regreted it, believe me, you'll have a ball. Chris.
