  1. Because not every Cop knows every law inside out, hence why the WPC got a Traffic Cop who know the laws regarding cars better than she did, what is so wrong with that

Why are people always so quick to criticise the Poilce for trying to do their job, it really does make me angry (and you wouldn't like me when i'm angry  )

A good bit of advice about placement of DLR there though Smith, didn't know about that, cheers

I agree...the police get a lot of stick and have to do a hard job with little support. I have to say that although intitially appearing a little on the grumpy side the Traffic Police were actually very good - no sarcasm, just information (and very courteous)

    x3

x4 ... My Dad was in the Met Police for 30 odd years - its a tough job and not one I would want to do.

  2. The difference should be that fog lights 'project' light, where as DRL's should just illuminate. But I did always wonder about this also. I've been thinking about DRL's for ages but not sure about position.

Well there is plenty of advice on here about positioning. I recall someone posted the legal requirements but I just found this if it helps http://assets.dft.gov.uk/publications/dft-information-sheets/daytime-running-lights.pdf The only thing I haven't managed to sort is the dimmingb of the lights with the side lights...I have a tech friend who I am hoping will tell me how it can be done.

Mine are fitted above the front splitter and just inside the inward sloping bits of the front bumper.

I did try and get a picture but getting a visible picture without the light flash obliterating the picture was difficult...I dont have a camera other than on my phone!

So wtf is the cops problem then? Idiots

I think they were training...which is why it was refered to the Traffic Police to confirm.

  3. On my way home from work Tuesday and got stopped by police at a roadside check. Very nice WPC said to turn off my 'fog lights'...explained that they weren't fogs. She went to get large grumpy traffic cop. We had a chat about placement (equidistant and height above road), he explained to WPC about DRLs and said Thank you sir, off you go. Not so grumpy as I first thought.

So, DRLs fine but make sure they comply with regs. Would have hated to take them off as they were a bugger to fit properly!

  4. improved torque and performance, with reduced emissions and a saving on fuel too?!

sounds a little tooo good to be true

Have to say I agree...if it seems to good to be true it probably is!!!

    Interesting read.

Seems to be very similar to the "40+ bhp super duper wind turbine awesome turbo kits" you see on ebay or even the "magical resistor kits".

The majority of people you see on the internet won't actually show how to do anything with these and just offer to sell you the guides which all funny enough have 30 days money back guarantees which are probably worth about as me promising to fly you to the moon in my wheely bin.

This is one of the better youtube videos I've found :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LElCLMRrDDA&feature=player_embedded

Edit : I can't believe I'm now actually looking into this.

It seems as it does nothing more than just push hydrogen into the air intake which obviously with combust without the use of fuel which in turn would cut down the fuel amount needed...Personally I wouldn't like to know how the ECU is going to try and cope with this kind of change.

Funnily enpugh I wondered about the ECU thing too...Im no mechanic but things I dont fully understand worry me :0)

  5. Just had this reply....still not convinced though

    Dear Ian

Thank you for your email and interest in de Verde Technologies.

The cost of having one of our systems installed into your Toyota Celica including the VAT and fitting is £250. There should be no issues with your insurance company and we can provide you with a guide to explain to them that this is a fuel enhancement system, which is an add-on and does not increase your BHP. It is a safe low amp system which is covered by product liability insurance and is installed by trained and qualified installers.

The fitting of the unit will take up to 3 hours and you will benefit from improved torque and performance, reduced emissions and as a bonus you will gain approximately a 20% saving on fuel.

If you would like to have the system fitted, please contact our office who will book your vehicle in our diary for the installation. We usually ask for £100 deposit to be paid by debit/credit card and then we request the balance to be paid after 30 days in accordance with our 30-day money back guarantee.

I hope that you find this of interest and we look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,

    Mel Bryant

  6. So, after selling the 540i and getting into the Gen 7 190 I just can't gel with it..

I'm not sure what the issue is but I'm just not sure I like it?! The car itself is fantastic and faultless..

I've been driving it around for a month now and don't know what to do.. :( Just insured it with Sky and no other cars out there that I'd rather have at the moment.. :brickwall:

Persevere, I love mine and I can't find anything that will replace it (and I have looked!)...previous car was an FTO, (and a Freelander but we dont discuss that!), faster yes but the Celica is a much better all round car. It does all I want it to do, fast enough, reliable and fuel consumption is pretty good - also, IMHO it is one of the best looking cars on the road.

  7. No such thing as a really stupid question...if you dont know ASK :0) I use Mobil 5w30 semi synthetic oil with a K&N oil filter... no real reason for that but from experience..my 140 has 62k on it and I've had it 3 years and had no engine problems at all. There are probably mechanics out there who can give you better, more technical advice but for me, check level regularly and change oil as often as you can. Mine is relatively low annual mileage and gets changed at least once a year. Hope that helps :0) oh, plugs are the 4 electrode ones but TBH they made little or no difference from the standard ones that were in there!

  8. 3 years 7 months...just can't find a car I like as much. Nothing matches it for all round looks, economy, looks, running costs, looks... did I mention looks? Hard to justify spending a shed load of cash replacing it for something that doesn't look as good :0) will be with me for a good while yet I think.

  9. Certainly seems to be a variety of views on this...getting the feeling that the better fuel is definately going to be better for the engine but any noticable difference is likely to be the 'feel good' factor of using a better grade of fuel, like using the best oil you can afford - may not be noticable but is better for the car in general. So... for me, I will continue with the Shell (the garage is also on my way home from work!) and accept that the extra couple of quid every time I fill up is not going to make a great deal of difference but the engine is being treated to decent fuel (I don't buy supermarket brand scotch/vodka etc!)... Morrisons in Paignton is currently 131.9/litre for standard u/l and shell V Power is 139.9/litre.

Really interesting getting all the information though

    :D

  10. Anyone got any views/experience on this... I was talking to a friend last week (he sells cars for a living but I dont hold that against him!) and he was saying that supermarket fuel could actually be bad for engines as they dont have the level of additives that main stream fuels have. So... with wallet in hand I went and got a full tank of Shell V power to see if there was any noticable difference. Is it placebo or wishfull thinking...? I think there is a difference, most of my driving is running around town with the occasional short dual carriagway blast - after half a tank the car seems to pick up smoother so I seem to be using less revs (its only a 140 ) it seems to idle very smoothly and horror of horrors I seem to be getting more mpg - now this could be because it seems to need less revs to get going and I'm not sure the difference would cover an extra 9p a litre but, if its better for the car it may be worth it (my usual was Morrisons at £1.31 as opposed to Shell at £1.39.9)

    O[pinions/views anyone ...

  11. They do look good Jenni, and very discrete - no need to take the headlight apart either. Nice :D

I have the LED running lights, but they are a thin strip that fits inbetween the headlight and bumper. The light comes out of the side of the stip. They are really discrete and smart looking :)

There was also no mention on the MOT about the lights.
