Thanks Carla but they dont send to IOW
-
yer but they are gonna work until you can get other sorted out arnt they
not when hes only got 2 tyres for them and theyre smaller than mine
-
ive found a part worn tyre place in portsmouth ive told him to visit on sunday. but my alloys are still pretty screwed, i love them so much but it would be cheaper getting new ones than getting them filled and rechromed.
daves only got 2 tyres for the gen 7 alloys and personally i HATE the gen 7 alloys and everyone has done it. I wanna be a bit different. plus i like 17"s
-
Hi peeps, does anyone know what other cars have the same wheel fitment as a celica?
Im in urgent need of 2 tyres but looks like itl be cheaper to get a full new set of alloys (as much as I love my current alloys, theyre damaged beyond repair)

Pretty sure whatever was wrong with my car has fixed itself. I am using Daves battery and he is using my dead one. Ive driven my car most days since it "died" and it has started first time every time. shouldnt be anything wrong with the starter motor, it was replaced a few months ago, (with an old one but still).
before the battery situation last week it used to hesitate before it started but that seems to have stopped now too, definately something weird and special going on with my car but Im not complaining!!
-
we cant charge anything, our battery charger doesnt work. daves is in my car and the one the AA guy said was dead is in his car. Both cars are working fine now but Im still confused why only 1 of the 3 batteries works in mine and all 3 works in his. Not going to use the one we bought yesterday, it leaks
-
I think it is a Battery issue...IMO...
If it was an earth issue?why would Daves Battery work in your car?
hes says incase he accidently disturbed something while changing it. my "dead" battery is working fine in his car so we're very confused
-
Was Daves engine warm?
no, not ran it since yesterday
ok the plot thickens. we put my old battery, the one the AA guy said was completely dead into daves car and it started first time and is running at 14.2v
dave is going to check the earths, we know of 2, on top of the gear box and near the headlights. are there anymore on a gen 5?
Stick the battery on charge overnight, I don't see what the problem with this is? Cold weather + one hour charge on alternator isn't gonna do what it needs to. Needs to be on overnight and maybe you'll get some life out of it.
the problem is that our 3 batteries all work in daves car including the one the AA guy declared as dead and the only battery that seems to work in mine is daves. its clearly not a battery problem
-
ok we have progress but its weird
first tried starting my car with my battery, no luck
switched batteries round, daves in mine, mine in daves.
daves in mine started first time and is running at 14.2v
mine in daves was slightly hesitant but did start first time and is running at 12.4v
is it possible that daves car (rev3 engine) needs less power to start up than mine?
-
Does the starter just click, or does it turn but very slow ?
Do the dash lights go very dim when trying to start, or do they stay bright ? If they go very dim then battery voltage is dropping badly so bad battery or jammed motor (as below)
Alternators are able to supply far more current than headlights draw. They will not stop it charging.
A few possibilities:
Contacts on starter solenoid worn so it needs a good kick to make contact and turn starter. A battery that's stood is normally about 12 - 12.5V a running engine is about 14 so jump leads will give it a little extra.
Starter motor has a worn bearing causing motor to rub on stator when side load applied, thereby drawing more current.
Battery is indeed knackered, although it's very rare that they are unable to re-start a car immediately after switching off.
Out of interest, did your battery work in Daves car ?
Another possibility is a poor connection on power lead from battery to starter or especially earth lead from battery to engine. If you connected the jump lead - to engine rather than battery would have made all the difference.
the starter just clicks when i try to start it
the dash lights stay bright
didnt try either of my batteries in daves car, will get him to do that today
we also did the whole bashing the starter motor thing and that did nothing
multimeter reading of battery while running is 14.2v, alternator very similar

It's a dead battery, buy a new one
you dont think its worth fully charging? cant afford a new one so i cant work for a while if charging it doesnt work
-
i didnt but dave said it would
-
did you have your lights on ?when you did this "charging"
yes, it was dark so lights on
-
well leave the battery on charge and meter it before and after then
hes refusing to do it. he says if it does start after an our of charging then its screwed and theres no point doing it
-
try taking the battery off daves and see it the same thing happens if not then you know its just the battery simply :xmas_biggrin: :xmas_wink:
great minds devious lmao
yeah we did, his battery started first time in mine which is why we think it is the battery. didnt try mine in his though. daves convinced our battery charger doesnt work
-
so is that really all it is? we have a battery charger but not sure if it works
-
that wouldn't be enough IMO...not if it was dead to start with..i would give it a good charge..
how long for? after we jumped it in tesco, i tried starting it again when we got home straight away and it didnt work. This sucks
-
was the other batt you fitted fully charged??try giving it a charge maybe..
no the other battery we fitted was dead but we did charge it for over an hour by driving it
Taking a stab here but if there's a short then whether it a new battery or not a short will drain it surely?
the AA guy said that a new battery would fix it. I said to him if its got a short then surely itl need new wires and he still said just the battery. Any way of finding exactly where the short is?
-
Hi guys and gals. Like the title says, other than a dead battery is there any other reason why a car would need a jump?
Yesterday my car wouldnt start, lights work, everything and it clicks when I try and start it. Called out the AA and he said the battery charges but doesnt hold charge and I need a new battery. So we got another battery, tried that and that didnt work either but it did when we jumped it off Dave's car. We kept it running and driving for over an hour, went shopping and when we got back to the car it wouldnt start again. Luckily a passer by offered us a jump.
So what Im asking is do we need another battery (the one we got was second hand but the guy said it worked fine) or is there something else wrong with it. It doesnt appear to be the alternator, that's giving out the right voltage, as is the battery.
The AA guy did say there was a short in it and it could cut out if I went over a bump but he didnt say where and when I questioned him he was convinced a new battery would sort the problem, which it didnt

hexis FTW

i do wrapping if ur interested. i did all of ghoulies interior
-
(do you two actually talk to each other in real lofe ot just on ccuk )
we talk more on here, when he gets home i have to shut up and sit in silence while he plays the xbox lol

Dont get age of car confussed with date of first reg, Biggys breaker was on an "M" plate, nearly two years after they stopped making them. It was prob sat around the back of Mr Ts collecting dust until somebody handed over some cash for the first time to buy it. Also I bet there are gen 5s on here registered before our 4
and dont worry about it, Mr T never made a torque converter (auto version of a clutch) that was made to fit a gen 6 import manual engine to a gen 5 UK auto gearbox
ok, now get ur arse home
-
Correct, like I said I doubt a Toyota dealership would know what day she came out the factory. (unless you find the original plate out and phone one in japan)
oh ok. i was just wondering as the date of the clutch compatibility is so precise, surely if it was all 1990 celicas it would say from 01 1990. shall i just shut up and go back to sleep? lol
Wheel fitment
in General Celica Discussion
Posted
yeah i suppose. apparently theyre not as urgent as dave made out, got to be done before mot in august so il keep my eye out for alloys before then. still dont know what wheels fit celicas though, neither me or dave have any idea about any of them codes and every website ive looked at says different
