  1. I've just come back from the garage a couple of doors down from where I work as I thought I might have to find another car (BRINKZ yeah you got me LOL)

However, it might have been a blessing in disguise, and ANYONE who has fitted HIDs needs to read this!

The MOT laws have been updated, and as from APRIL 2012 NO car can have HIDs fitted unless they meet the following criteria

    1) They must be self levelling

    2) They must have a WASH System fitted

    3) They must met the UK Specifications for HIDs

If any of these are NOT met, its an automatic failure.

Also if your car was NOT fitted with HIDs as standard, or as an upgrade option, they could still fail you EVEN IF you meet the above criteria

This has apparently been done to stop the amount of HIDs being fitted without care or attention, and then these HIDs are have been known to cause serious and fatal accidents because of the brightness and adjustment being so off

Please feel free to check out the info I have posted, if anyone finds out anything different please post it, but the above I have just seen with my own eyes on an official MOT testing station wall, so i doubt its wrong!

Hopefully this post will have been of use ;)

  2. I looked into this, its a MADE IN CHINA SPECIAL, and its a DVB-T

If its DVB-T it wont receive UK Freeview HD channels, it needs to be DVB-T2 but that's not an issue if you only want standard definition channels which It will possibly receive, but cant say for sure ;)

My mate had one of these I think which worked okay as far as I remember

  3. He goes out for a drive. The tickover on his car he obviously knows when its warm, so the RPM is no problem. I got mine back and the MPH was out by about 3MPH but on the good side ;) So I left it like that, I did a check up to 90MPH via GPS and at 90MPH on the GPS it was around 85MPH on the Celica so I just left it as it wasnt worth farting about with :)

Its an easy to do thing anyway, when you get the dials back, just remove the perspex from the front of the dials and connect them up being careful obviously.

Before you get them done, make sure your cars warm and tick over is where it usually is, and you can see where its pointing on the RPM so when you get them back you know if its right or wrong. They are only a gentle push fit so are easily removed for adjustment and push lightly on again.... NOT TO HARD like I did or the needle gets stuck and doesnt return lol :)

  4. Clocks easy to change if your on a pre facelift, just need to get some blue film like the stuff they use on stage lighting, its available in some craft shops or Ebay, IIRC its not actually blue you use as the clocks colour is green, someone help out here for the colours lol lol :)

The rest like the Climate control is fairly easy, I did mine on my own get the LED kit from FIELDY on here and there is a guide to doing it

The Speedo Cluster itself actually has ultra bright SMTs fitted in it Diablo on here does the fitting, MOOK supplies the SMTs with the Dials if needed. The actual colours you want are basically whatever can be done.

Mook uses coloured filters for things like the Warning symbols on the dials, the fuel gauge lighting is again coloured film I believe but im not certain in that

It takes a while for Mook to do them as he is very busy, and they are I would imagine quite fiddly to do, but there impressive mate they really are ;)

  5. Mook's gallery could do with an update though Bryan, there's a lot more that have been done and not been added, in fact there aren't many Gen7 ones on there...

That's what I thought, that's why I offered to get everyone's and post them so people could see... im SURE there were lots of them originally and certainly a load of the GEN7 ones I remember looking though them, I saw a thread on here im SURE that had RANCER'S ones on it, but I looked and couldn't find it, did we lose a lot of forums posts and images when the software was redone?

in fact.... as I emailed mook a couple of days ago.... if you look at this webby address

    http://skewer.co.uk/pics/jamieb.jpg

There is a pic of a set of dials, but the web address is none negotiable for PICS I tried deleting the jamie bit and it would not have it, so I am assuming probably wrongly lol that there might be a dir full of pics we cant see.... or pron :)

  6. Just a note of caution, and this is true with almost ALL couriers

I used to work for TUFFNELLS Parcel Express, so ..... whatever you do.... DO NOT WRITE OR STICK ANYTHING ON THE PARCEL WHICH SAYS FRAGILE OR WORDS TO THAT EFFECT!!!

Its like red rag to a BULL I kid you not, they kick the **** out of anything thats got the words FRAGILE, or PLEASE HANDLE WITH CARE, they simply DONT CARE most of the time im sorry to say!

Just wrap it as carefully and as tightly as you can, put it in an old bedsheet, use old towels, bubblewrap, and pray

Most of the time everything is ok, we use all the major couriers where I work, PARCELFARCE is the worst by a long way but City Link, Interlink, TNT, UPS, all fairly decent most of the time :)

  7. Hiya guys.... and girls :)

Having had my Gen7 140 dials done by MOOK in 2010, and having now repaid my membership as im about to become a 190 owner (WAHOO!) I was looking to get the dials done again.

Now, whether its me having a senior moment, or whether there WERE a LOT of these pics about and they seem to have vanished, I have no idea, suffice to say, I wanted inspiration and could find too much of it :(

I have a paid up membership on Photobucket, and so I was wondering, with your permission, if you would send me your dial/gauges pics (Illuminated and not illuminated) with your forum username and I will upload them and create a DIALS thread that hopefully can be made a sticky

    Please send to

    catwoman1931@ntlworld.com

    no need to compress :)
