took the bumper off to check the damage, pics attached

looks like the rear crash beam, the foam thingy and the bumper has taken the brunt of it

The guy who hit me says he don't want to go through insurance and will pay cash so not sure on this.

Do I get quotes and get back to him?

Would insurance use brand new parts or 2nd hand?

Given the age of the car, an insurance company might declare it a write-off.

Play safe and contact your insurance company.

Getting quotes would be a good idea, but don't be surprised if he says "I'm not paying that much!".

If the car is written-off, you can offer to buy it back and repair it yourself.

Insurance would write it off. But the other guys insurance would be affected for the next 5 years. So you can see why he wants to deal outside insurance.

Insurance won't want the hassle of 2ndhand parts.

Ok makes sense to go the DIY route, guys gonna pay for a replacement crash beam and foam and bumper 2nd hand and for paint job which is quoted around 250 here

Yea took the spare wheel and boot trays  out and checked everything seems solid.

I didn't think that a 3rd partys insurance could write off a car and if demanded they would have to fix it in full.

But my knowledge of insurance claim stuff is from around 20 years ago so not sure if things have changed since then

If insurance get involved then there's a reasonable chance it will end up with a cat c or d write off flagged which would make it unsaleable or at least reduce its value. If it's written off, the value offered minus the buy back may not cover a proper repair so you'd be worse off.

If it were me, I would get a couple of quotes as a starting point. If it's a few hundred you would both be better off keeping it out of insurance.

250 is cheap! I got quoted £750 just to paint the tailgate of my touring.

Just need to be prepared the guy said he would pay this weekend, replacement bumper , crash bar and impact absorber iv purchased at the other guys expense and he saying he will go collect the items in 2 weeks time since they in London so 200mile round trip.

Now if he don't pay this weekend should I just contact my insurance company since it will have been a week since the accident?

What if he does pay but doesn't go collect the parts like he is saying he will do what then?

Just trying to be prepared in advance

Guys paid me out so it's ok, parts paid for too. He said he would collect the parts for me which are in London once his van is back on the road.

Dunno if there are any club members around the N7 8HD post code area with a van that are coming to Coventry any time soon?
