Jim881
Hi all, I am in the process of collecting all the bits for a rear suspension swap. I want to remove the old bushes and just wondered if its only this one below that has a metal sleeve that needs to be kept in?Also has anyone got any tips to get them out and getting the new ones in?I've got loads of plus gas and a blow torch. I've heard the best way is to heat the metal around the bush rather than on it to stop making a gooey, smoking mess. Also has anyone had experience using the strongflex polybushes? LucyLou
Have a look at GT4 play, they do polybush (I got mine from there) and i think now does refurbed hangers with bush assembly complete. The Polybush kit I used came with all applicable new sleeves etc so I was able to junk mine as they really don’t like coming out easily Like everything though I suppose access to proper equipment like a press would have been desirable If I did it again I’d have bought the complete hanger from them as extra cost is worth it imo. For the other leg (assume you are doing both points where suspension arms fit to car) my neighbour assisted as he had big vice and we used that and a combo of suitable sized sockets to ‘press’ out

Jim881
Hey,Thanks for the tips. I must admit I'm not looking forwatd to starting it, but ill be satisfied once I'm done.In the pictures above. I presume the top picture is the bush that goes in the bracket? Did you need a new sleeve for that one or did you keep the old one in? (The strongflex guide says that one needs keeping)Also on the bottom picture the bush at the top. Is that a fully assembly or does the metal sleeve come off? I'm wondering when I time that bush will the old sleeve come out at the same time?Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk
LucyLou
No problems The sleeve in the top pic is the old one and the Polybush ones don’t need a sleeve from memory (apologies, was two years ago now). For the bottom pic question the whole thing gets pressed out and the Polybush kit comes with new sleeve and centre as below...
LucyLou
It seems from what Strongflex are advising you they do it slightly differently to Polybush. I have zoomed in on the picture below at the carrier on the far left and it definitely seems that the bush goes into the carrier with no metal sleeve. Apologies, for some reason I took pictures of the bushes for the other arm but none for the carrier bushes before assembly but am 98% sure I didn’t sleeve that carrier Edited June 14, 2020 by LucyLou
Jim881
I suppose its gonna be a case of cleaning them all up and waiting until I get my new bushes. Its not as if I can accidently push one of the sleeves out. I started last night and its going to keep me busy for a while. Got all the nuts off one side just need to remove the bolts now. Borrowed a decent mapp had blowtorch so shouldn't take too long. I'll take pictures throughout incase anyone else in the future has similar questions. Tuckshop_1
I've fitted Strongflex bushes to my rear camber arms and have some ready to go on the control arms. I luckily had access to a hydraulic press so the camber arm bushes weren't much trouble to get out and swap over. I haven't yet fitted the Control arm bushes as i may buy second hand control arms to fully refund and then do similar to Lucy and get the other bush from GT4 play. Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk Exactly what mine were like, those parts press out. They don't look like they do but after a good go with the Hydraulic press it came out. The ones in the control arm are the same. This is them pressed out: Another member i had spoken to when i was changing my sub-frame He bought a hydraulic press after breaking his vice trying to get the bushes out. If you can get them to a local garage, i doubt they'd charge much for the service. Edited June 15, 2020 by Tuckshop_1
Jim881
Well I got the camber bushes fully out, and managed to remove the hub assy (angle grinder) just need to remove the bush similar to the camber ones from the control arm and a snapped screw in a nut. (Don't know what this is for yet) I also noticed there are sleeves in the hub assy so have emailed strongflex. The bushes that come for that part doesnt come with a new sleeve but they didn't mention its only the front brush bracket sleeve that needs keeping. Thought I would double check.Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk
