so what is the official pronounciation ?

Question

ive seen some old US tv adverts, and obviously I have heard it said by other people over the years, but what is actually right?

 

is it CELL - ICK - AH

 

or CE - LEEK - AHH

 

?

hmmm, that's a third I hadn't considered.   Even the two parts guys in my local dealership say it different to each other

I think the best think to do Gaz is use the pronunciation you always have, we speak modern English which evolves over time and varies with geographical areas.

Although it would be interesting to hear the Japanese pronunciation of it

Pretty sure somebody from Toyota confirmed it's pronounced "ce-leek-a". That's how I've always said it.

IF you Google "celica pronunciation" you get 407,000 hits. I go with sell-ee-ka myself, or maybe sell-eee-ka. Definitely, the US sell-ika is wrong, as evidenced by their pronunciation of MX5 as Miata :lol:.
