Jev
Hi, I was given a 12" EDGE subwoofer with amp already mounted on the side. The output is fairly weak until gain turned up and then the sound is very crackled. So how do i tell if the speaker is blown or a faulty amp? i.e. Do I junk the lot or try just replacing the speaker? I don't want a monster sound, just some better quality bass....
lancer778544
That sounds like an amp fault to me but I could be wrong. Easiest way to test would be would be to take the speaker out and hook it up to another amp if you have one available. If it works fine, you could bypass the built in amp by running the wire directly to the speaker via the port on the side.
Jev
I took the easy solution - return for refund (it was only a cheap 2nd hand unit). Can now recommend a small Alpine 8" unit
