Do you ever just "go out for a drive"?

Yep,for me if I dont have the enthusiasm to take a car out just for the fun of it,then the car needs to go.I've always done it,whether it was in my old Escorts,Alfa or Celicas. My daily is a VW diesel.I dont go out in that unless it for an actual purpose

see my v6 was a bit thirsty for fuel especially as we were paying £1.40 per litre more back then and i averaged 33mpg (best ) then i get the celica and yes i do use much more but just as Ger said by the time you take into account all the bills ,rent etc it only leaves you with a budget , but i will say the tsport is great for playing around in when i do go out in it ..i dont miss the v6 (only the growl)

I used to just go for a drive late at night quite a few years ago now and if other drivers were about we then might have had a 'play'

But when petrol prices made it expensive to just go for a drive I had to cut down (especially as was in GT-fours) then other reasons meant later years couldn't go out late at night.

One night in particular still sticks in my mind when I and another driver were out and I had just been round a roundabout and then in my rear view mirror I saw the other car spin out (he probably didn't think I had turbo & 4WD!)

One of my favourite things as an enthusiast. I've always chosen cars that make you want to drive them, anything else would just be a mode of transport.

I've found Wales to have some great roads, so I don't like to miss the chance when I'm close by.

I used to where I used to live. But now I've moved I don't know the places as well so if I do go for a drive for the sake of driving its not normally very far as I'm scared of getting lost :D don't keep a road map in the car so always at the mercy of the 3g on my phone. But been planning a trip down the a82 and see where that takes me. Also want to go for a drive down applecross when there's a nice day next summer

I have planned a route down the a82 then back up the a86 to the a9 but with the roadworks on the a9 at the minute its a shit drive with 40mph zones. Applecross looks like a fantastic drive though. Anyone ever done it as I hear its one of the most dangerous roads

do it all the time as:

On a long and lonesome highway east of Omaha

You can listen to the engine roaring one out of old songs

You can think about the woman, or a girl you knew the night before

But your thoughts will soon be wandering, the way they always do

when you riding sixteen hours there is nothing much to do....

my fav riding song - turn the page (metallica version)

Yes almost every day since I've had the car. If I didn't drive anywhere during the day I'd take it round the back-roads or into the country

Would hate to see how much money I've spent on petrol for "pointless drives" but then again they aren't pointless just getting the most out of my pride and joy and it's like a hobby :)

Good for you, Alex...no such thing as a "pointless drive" in a Celica.!..

I get out every couple of days or so...just to drive it.!....a bit boring around here though with no real "driver's" roads. I yearn for my old stomping grounds of the Derbyshire Peak District and the North Yorkshire Moors/coast. :(

I havent done it for a while, just down to outgoings really but i used to and will again.

Used to take the motorbike out and be out who knows where just enjoying the open roads on a summers night and slip back into the house about 3/4am

Note to dads on here. If your daughter is returning at this time and you catch her, dont jump to conclusions - she may just have a secret motorbike...... ;)
