Klaxon
I pulled into a garage once and one of the mechanics goes, 'ah, thats a UK one. I've had 4 of these and you can tell whether is UK or not by the brakes' and told me about the calipers. I never understood what he meant to be honest as I've never even checked it out. I mentioned it anyway. All the other things I have noticed or had confirmed though.
Mondo
This mechanic who told you that info is misinformed. ALL ST205s had 4-pot front brakes and twinpot rears..... , JDM cars are restriced to 112 mph, not 100 mph... Klaxon
Well I must admit I can't find much information on the calipers so perhaps thats not true, I may have misheard the guy on that one. Yeah the speedo thing was an estimation, you know what I mean Edited May 13, 2015 by Sherv

Old Red Celica
Gen5 ST185 = Prettier, Pop up headlights. Real Rally heritage. Gen6 ST205= Better built, more powerful, last of the real rally cars. JDM's are only more powerful when on Jap fuel with higher Octane. Best Celica, mine!! and your best Celica is yours, his is his, and hers is hers.

crewcutchuck
Can't coment on the st185 vs st205 comparison but those in the know have already stated that on paper the 205 is improved. If I had the money, space and time I'd be reconditioning an ST165 shell and fitting 205 engine and running gear. That would be my ideal Celica. Still wouldn't swap my Nissan for one though.
SKINY
^^ that sounds like my perfect celica right there in superwhite but with the 05 caldina engine strokered, wood even keep the tip-tronic box too so Wintersun, what about a 165 then. chuck a spanner right in the works
Sherv
Someone's mentioned a 165,hallelujah! the car that started it all off.Mind you, you've got to find one first.A good one.First 4wd rally derived Celica in the UK...first UK car to have a catalytic converter.Although most people now spend their time getting rid of it How about one like Steve G's (GT4-play) 'Betsy'.. we've mentioned a lot about the 185 v 205,how about the 205 taking on Steve's 165? the 165 might be tuned a little bit....
SKINY
a good 165 wood make me re-consider a few things  sweet sweet looking wagons and Steves is just pure with a spec that makes me moist in the front trouser area swap one for my 185 hmmm definatly
_Chris_
The 165 has a very old fashioned feel to it inside, bit like driving an old mk1 escort again. On the other hand, they do have a real character to them and are the lightest and best balanced version as a base for a competition car.

The Spectre
My 205 as a bit tatty, I'll either get rid of it soonish cheaply or keep it a while longer, tidy up the bodywork and sell it on for a bit more if you're interested?
