c.a.r.
Just wondered how many people on here use their Celica as their main car and have a young kiddie? We are expecting our first child around May next year (haven't been given a date yet) and I've already sold my Mazda MX5 in anticipation of this, but now I'm being told the Gen7 will be too impractical too I have taken our 18 month old nephew out in it complete with child seat and buggy and I thought it was fine, but SWMBO says it was difficult strapping him in the back seat. Don't want to have to admit to it but looks like I'm gonna need a different car in 6 - 8 months time already!
celica daz
the celica has rear seats = family friendly
InsolentMinx
can't you put the kid in the passenger seat (disabling airbag, obviously) and make the ole lady get in the back?

Don't think she'd be too impressed with that suggestion tbh! Try finding an exciting 4-door car though

RoryK
Could always put it in a shopping bag and attach it to the hooks in the boot, it wont slide around or distract you from driving either xD
InsolentMinx
erm... exciting 4 door? kind of a contradiction in terms really. does a Golf GTI come as a 4 door? Could always put it in a shopping bag and attach it to the hooks in the boot, it wont slide around or distract you from driving either xD i frikkin love those hooks!! my girlfriend thinks I'm mad at how i insist bags have to be hooked onto them! oh, and congrats too Edited October 19, 2011 by InsolentMinx
RoryK
Too right they do, otherwise then the stuff roles out the bags and falls into the bit at the back of the boot and rolls around. for a 4 door though, you could look at the Seat Leon Cupra R ? Pretty quick, buckets of torque and come with a 17psi turbo standard
c.a.r.
Cheers guys, definately food for thought. Trouble with the Impreza is fuel consumption, the office is 17 miles away and sometimes I have to do site visits around the country, so it's 35 miles minimum every day! Already worked out to be around £250 a month in fuel in the Celica FFS!! One thing which will need doing is the rear boot struts, as the car tries to eat you when putting the buggy in the boot. Not good.

c.a.r.
I get roughly 320 miles between fill-ups which usually cost about £60? Averaging about 33mpg. It's all the little trips in-between which do it, but I'm filling up 4 or 5 times a month!
sonic
not only do i use my 5 for business use (home calls) but i have 3 kids and i find it more practical than a normal 3 door hatch back , which are designed to be family orientated
Angus
SWMBO is probably right - it's easier to do up straps and stuff if you have more access, but it's not that big a pain. Not in a Gen 5 anyway. The main gripe about the Gen 5 was that when Thomas got a bit bigger he couldn't see out the windows, which was a shame for him. Sherv
4 door car thats exciting to drive. and don't believe all the horror stories, mine (this) was top notch for 4 years because i did my homework and got a goodun.FSH all the way or bust. The later models are a lot of car for the money, they're Italian, quicker than a 140,(a 190 won't exactly leave it for dead either)handle and brake better if you get the right model, and have a boot.Just a thought. c.a.r.
The Alfa is a lovely car to be honest and I did have a brief look at them, looked at the Accord Type R too. I was scared of the Alfas for their costs, didn't fancy a Twinspark engine or a sillyspeed gearbox, and if I get a car that big it would make sense to be a diesel too and I know nothing about the diesel Alfa's! Still, I want to keep the Celica for another 6-8 months yet!

Monkey_matt
My other Half Sam (YJ52 on here) uses her Celica for her and her son, and i've used the GT-Four with a baby before (got odd looks parking it in the parent and child parking spots, lol), so the celica is fine as a family car as long as you dont mind the fact its a 3dr car Edited October 19, 2011 by Monkey_matt

The 2.0 Twinspark is a cracking engine mate,in fact its perfect for the car because, the V6,lovely as it is,was a hefty lump and the balance of the car wasnt as great. Also the proper manual 'box is a must, not the Selespeed thing that is rubbish.Like i say, costs are always an issue if you end up spending out,as long as its serviced properly and has had a cambelt by 50k then theyre very good.I used an independant Alfa specialist who was a true enthusiast and costs werent massively cheap admittedly, but labour was a good third less than a dealer.Roomy enough but not as big as you think. And if im honest if you bought an Alfa with a diesel engine i would probably have to come round and do unspeakable things as that is a crime against humanity Edited October 19, 2011 by thesherv
