CelicaBen190 Posted 30 January 2011 Report Posted 30 January 2011 My left fog light has the outer protective glass smashed, in fact there is only half of it left. The light still works and the inner glass protective glass is ok (the ball type glass thing). Is this an MOT fail?
nix Posted 30 January 2011 Report Posted 30 January 2011 Not all cars are fitted with front fog lights, so its not an MOT failure if you remove it. If it is there and broken then I would iamgine it would be a failure because of the sharp bits on it. Try Ams and see if he has a spare one in stock mate.
dublet Posted 30 January 2011 Report Posted 30 January 2011 (edited) One of my front fogs has a big chunk missing but in 4 years has not caused an MOT failure with 4 different MOT people. Note: the fog light works a-ok. Edited 30 January 2011 by dublet
ams Posted 30 January 2011 Report Posted 30 January 2011 if it emits white light - then potentially yes If it has a sharp edge then - again maybe yes You only need the right side one to be working. If its the left one remove the bulb - cover it with black tape and you will be ok or i can supply one for about £8 posted
sbdags Posted 30 January 2011 Report Posted 30 January 2011 Broken fogs do not constitute MOT failure. Put some selotape over it to stop bits going in or coming off and replace when you can get a good one.
ams Posted 30 January 2011 Report Posted 30 January 2011 just realised - you are talking about front fogs - not part of the MOT (hence my point about white light as I thought you meant rears!)
izzzzythedog Posted 30 January 2011 Report Posted 30 January 2011 if its got sharp edges then yes it will fail , taping over it sorts it out , id aim to replace it when a cheapie shows up on ebay
