  1. All down to budget as well . Though as its a CS, get the best you can afford. I've recommended these a few times, did my Gen4 brilliant for years til I got the garage sorted. You can specify your model to get an exact fit.Properly breathable, waterproof, and secure straps all round. You should always try and uncover the car to let the paint etc breathe whenever possible though,no cover is totally ideal for any long length of time. I went for Stormshield + outdoor cover with wing mirror pockets,in black.Lasted years. https://www.specialisedcovers.com/stormshield-plus-car-cover 01943 864 646 to tell them your exact model.
  2. My gen4 hasn't done any real mileage either, its garaged and on a trickle charger and has been out a few times but even so,did a brake check, and as I do the servicing myself I gave her fresh oil and filter, plugs etc last week.Parts aren't expensive so a no brainer for me really. But yes a health check on the brakes for you should be done as Jim mentioned.Cars don't like being sat around, electricals should be fully utilised when you do get her out too,get the lights going, heater blowing ,etc.
  3. His car has beem mot'd every year it seems. Had a couple of fails that needed sorting due to emissions so im guessing its still got all the kit! Not seen him probably since his wedding, christ that was ages ago. Should catch up.
  4. Damn straight. Yeah you never know who you may bump in to. I was in Sainsburys looking for a birthday card and the woman next to me commented on my t shirt that had a yellow Barry Sheene '7' decal on it. (hero of mine from childhood, small decal on all my cars) Started a chat and it was his neice, Paula. Lot of the family are still local as her Dad ran Paul Smart motorcycles in Kent. I was trying to act like i wasn't exploding inside, ha. But yeah thats a great story, proper hero stuff that.
  5. Ha, the ol' Beams Gen4 shouldn't be underestimated
  6. Need a full system or just a part?
  7. TCB had them at beginning of the year as i was looking to replace the ones on the GT4 i had then.Rears were about 150 +VAT at the time each. But yes, you're right they're showing discontinued now
  8. You'll get a shock when you see how much the hub backing plates are
  9. If a genuine original one is available and not silly money then fair enough, if not id just have a stainless one built to oem spec mate rather than a pattern part.
  10. yeah we've all had one like that especially if you're of a certain vintage like me .Mad to think that Mk2 would be worth a fortune now, even in that condition.2 door sir? Ker-ching.
  11. Think its the only Gen full stop with those figures currently on 4 pot N/A ,on here anyway.(at the moment). Getting genuine worthwhile power gains from N/A cars is time consuming and usually expensive ,even more so with Celicas,3sge or otherwise.First port of call is usually improving power to weight as most of us know.
  12. The DD came out for the 205 okay, so I'll disregard the warning letter. Car is showing its taxed and MOT is October now on the Gov site, so that's worked out in my case.
  13. Its the uninformed trying to fool the rest of the uninformed.
  14. Could be some grey areas couldn't there. But mainly a heads up to keep an eye on things really. Yeah Chris, i want to advertise my 205 for sale but seems a bit pointless during lockdown, and wanted to do it with a fresh MOT ideally. . Talk about timing! So ill see how it pans out next few weeks i guess, before i can advertise it 'properly'. Obviously anyone can PM me for details meantime if interested.
  15. MOT facilities arent all shut, place down the road from me fixed puncture on wifes car and he said he is allowed to MOT/repair vehicles, giving priority to key/nhs workers whose transport is essential, mainly for those whose MOT expired before the 'deadline',but if required can do essential work on the car (wife is NHS),but did say he would MOT my car if i wanted him to. The point is really if you cant/dont want to MOT your car, if you pay by DD you might get a letter saying your vehicle may not automatically be taxed, so check the extension has been confirmed on the website and check your DD goes out as it should https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-mot-centre-and-tester-guidance
  16. If your vehicle was due its MOT after 30th March 2020,the DVLA extended it by 6 months grace to assist the Governments Stay At Home policy. If you pay your car tax by direct debit however, its worth keeping an eye on your payments going through as normal still.(If you intend to get your car MOT'd as normal anyway, then this wont affect you.But if you're not in that position, isolating etc, then read on) ) My GT4 is due MOT at the end of this month, and I pay my tax by DD. Looking at the DVLA mot checker,is does now state that the car MOT is now due in October. However,I have just today received a letter from DVLA stating my Direct Debit will not be taken as normal unless an MOT certificate is in place before the tax is due at 30th April. So I'll be looking at my bank account to see if they take the payment as normal,if they do,then ill disregard the letter as a standard issue job,as the DVLA site does state on their records the MOT is due in October now.But you know what these systems can be like, not everyone pays their tax in one hit. But if you pay by DD,check your MOT date has been extended on their database first, and if so,that your DD goes out as normal. It does state the 'new' MOT date may not show until 3 days before the original MOT was due,but mines there already. https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/?locale=en If your expiry date hasnt been updated 3 days before its originally due; covid19mot@dvsa.gov.uk.
  17. Hi 'Shell, hope you both doing ok.Yeah agree with the guys, its a pity it has the clutch/gearbox issue, think you'll do well to break even TBH.
  18. Could just get a really small bag of cement from B&Q for about a fiver and get a cheapo trowel.knock up a small bit of muck and just smooth it between the road and the kerb.Dont need a large amount, just enough to to take the height factor out a bit.If you do it neat enough and apply it just before it gets dark and when the forecast is dry,you wont attract any attention from busybodies and unlikely the council will be bothered either,if you only use enough for what you need.Simple enough to do,you wont affect the flow of rain to that drain or anything if you keep it nice and flush .Much better than buggering about with bits of wood.
  19. Don't injure yourself on a car in Kent and end up in Medway hospital, you might get a shock
  20. Most of my experience with this has been with rusty Escorts and latterly 1980s Celicas . Always stuck with WD40 TBH,but its technique that plays a massive part.Doing things well in advance is the main thing, proper rusted stuff usually needs a week of daily dosage to get it to try to remotely penetrate enough to make it easier to shift, bar that then heat is sometimes the only real way to get things moving, but that has its own pitfalls.for example, trying to shift exhaust manifold bolts on a 30 year old 4th gen, without knackering the studs that lead into an alloy head by applying too much heat. Its a tricky process..I've found that GT85 seems to work better on the chaingear on my mountain bikes as a general protective lubricant rather than an all out penetrator.
