Are these cars engineered to drive us nuts????? Checked for fault codes but nothing there then gave the key another turn and she fired up instantly!!!!! Ran like a Swiss watch for 30mins, turned her off and tried again, instant start once more. Let's see what tomorrow brings

I had issues on my Sisters Micra after about 5 years, it turned to varnish and kept gumming float valve shut then gummed up pump and carn jets. That would have been E5. E10 goes stale quicker but not that much quicker.

Yeah, I've known a car with two year old petrol in it start okay.

Six months old petrol should be okay, hopefully

Just wondering if the petrol has gone stale in the tank? How long ago was your last fill up?

First step check fault codes, no special tools needed. Guide on gt4dc how to guides. Cap failure in gen 6 is still rare, I'd be looking at the more obvious first. See what the fault codes show. Check for spark while turning over.

Never had the ECU out. I've heard that it's in the passenger footwell behind the glove box. There's a white plastic box under there. Is the ECU in that?

Maybe it's time to check the capacitors in your ECU.

My ST205 has stood for nearly six months over the winter. The battery had been playing silly beggars for quite a while before so I bought a new one to give myself the best chance. New battery fitted and turning the key, engine turning over nice and quickly but no attempt to fire at all. I tried several times but no luck. After leaving it for half an hour she actually fired up. She ran a bit lumpy then smoothed out and I let it run for about half an hour. Two days later I'm booked in for an MOT so I go out and try to start her up. Cranking nicely again but no attempt to fire at all. After several cranking sessions, nothing. I got on my hands and knees at the back of the car but no smell of petrol from the exhaust. I'm not a mechanic and have no experience of mechanical stuff on the car but my logic says that the exhaust should stink of fuel after cranking so many times. Am I completely off the target by thinking that my fuel pump may be stuffed? Yes, there is fuel in the car.

The tarmac or the wheel ? I'll keep the wheels to use on autotests until the tyres are worn out. The shame is that those wheels really suited Ezzy. I have a similar set but silve currently on my SS1. I'll probably get them refurbed and painted white as replacements. They are 16" so will be a bit less likely to sustain such damage as the tyres are higher profile.

It's a bit straighter now after a few blows with a big hammer. Will be driving home on it tomorrow. Did quite a big tour yesterday down to Macinlyth via the nice road by Corris, up to Betws-y-coed where there loads of police chasing someone on foot, 2 attempts at the B road where the pothole was. First time it was closed, second time it's been resurfaced and the pothole filled in. At least the council acted quickly. Ran fine apart from being a bit bumpy between 40 and 50 like an unbalanced wheel. B4391
