The Spectre
Front or rear seats? If it's rear you could remove the seats and seat belts, get it through the MOT then sort the rust out if you daily it?
Heepsy92
Not sure where it is. Hopefully when I get the side skirts off tomorrow I'll see where it is. I took the rear seats out last week and everything was dry so damp problem I don't think so but never know. I'm going to be investigating tomorrow so lots of pictures and questions and advice needed most likely.
The Spectre
My JDM rust senses are finely honed after having a fair few... I'm finishing off an engine swap on an Audi cabriolet tomorrow so I'll be about if no one else is. Ams would be a good guy to question too. Sherv
Unfortunately you'll still need to get it through an mot or youll get hardly anything for it.
RUToyota
Seems a strange/rare area of failure (AFAIK)...but I guess it's fixable though surely.? Neil

As a tester I can assure you it would still fail!

_Chris_
It's not unknown for people to drill holes to fit sideskirts and not seal them properly allowing water to get in to the sills. I know the gen 5 sunroof drains also went into the sills, not sure about later models. The usual mot bodge is to slap a plate over and weld round. To do properly involves cutting the rusty area right out including inner structure and welding in new metal, ideally replacing the whole sill but can be done with just a patch butt welded. Not a massive task but commercial welders tend to charge a lot.
Heepsy92
Finally a bit of good news. Got the skirts off today and had a look at the sills. My first impression was holey shit thats bad. Took it around to a garage my dad uses and got quoted 300+vat to fix the sills then they'll mot it afterwards. They don't think it's as bad as it was made out to be. So slightly glad it's not a huge repair bill.
TheVDM
That's good news, rust is always my biggest concern as I can use a spanner but have little to no skill with welding gear!
Cleario
Grab a few pictures. Are the skirts oem or have you fitted them?
Heepsy92
Skirts are genuine gt skirts which made them easy to get off since it was just all clips and 2 bolts. I'll post up pictures later as the girlfriend had dragged me clothes shopping
Cleario
Bad times on the shopping! Hmmm I wonder if Toyota didn't seal the hole from factory then?
