Oil coolers

So, pondering when i see lots of adverts for them. When do we need oil coolers ? Is it only for racing applications, needing it for track days etc ? Or with a turbo should they go hand in hand ? One more point of failure ?

Only temp record I have so far is from mot, where it was recorded at 100c. Oil pressure is a pretty uniform 20 once warmed up and cruising without excessive load.

correct my understanding here.....oil too hot = pressure drop = bad ?

And no , this isn't because I want a red anodised external cooler. Well, little bit.
