Monkey Boy 1
Just had a lovely new set of brake discs arrive in the post today c/o Freaky, hopefully this should sort out my braking issues once & for all. Now my dilemma is that the info that came with them advise for them to be bedded in for around 200 miles.and not to do any emergency or hard braking within that time. Fair enough, BUT I have no MOT, the next trip out in the car would be to the MOT station and with new discs, pads & brake shoes I have a feeling that my braking efficiency will be well below the required limit. I can't drive around in the car bedding them in as no MOT = invalid insurance = Points =..... you know how it goes. I could risk doing a long back road trip to the MOT station or pick another MOT centre further afield which 'may' help with the brakes, but they are probably going to need adjustment before hand. What advice has anyone got on this or do I just 'risk it' ?
Old Red Celica
Just take it for a MOT, they'll see they are new brakes. As long as they come up balanced you should be OK.
dublet
The initial bedding in that's required is just braking hard a few times. Do this on the way to the MOT station and you'll be fine.

James7
Just make sure you're not stationary with the brakes on
Alistair_GT
Should be fine as long as your calipers are good, I took a car for MOT that had new discs/pads and drove about 2 miles, passed no problem. The MOT brake efficiency limits are very low...cars with terrible brakes still seem to pass
zoob
My brakes were shockingly bad (warped, pitted, rusted to hell) and it was only an advisory. You'll be fine.

ScottChester
The mot rules are v old. A newish car with new brakes will probably still out perform a h reg astra I wouldn't worry Also they say 200 and that probably means 50 with 150 to cover themselves off Edited September 10, 2013 by ScottChester
Kobir
Driving without MOT is only a £30 fine that's all, if you get pulled over just tell them you are on your way to get your MOT done

si_c
as ams said, a car of mine failed on brakes, sort of knew the chap and he got some in that afternoon, fitted em next morning and did test again and voila, 12 months ticket
