Does anyone service their car at Toyota?

Recommended Posts

i have a great fantastic mechanic mate of mine whos recently replace the leaky rad on the 7 , he did that for 110 quid for 4-5hours work and a fantasic guy , he has all the tools and a proper hydraulic lift and in his spare time he dabbles on other car projects of his own and he charges a lot less than any garage.ok hes about 20miles from me but i would always use him because he happened to be a vauxhall specilist over the last 30 years and he rebuilds chevettes from the ground up and it was great to see how he sorted the radiator because he removed everything and replace new radiator followed by the coolant fillup without any issues ....

I think Toyota wanted £400 is for a minor service last time i phoned.

Most things can be done easly enough yourself, even take it into DIY Car Services if you need to use the Ramps and tools ect, Shaun will probably help you out in there aswell if you need it.

The for anything a bit more complicated like the Aux belt changing i'd go to razers brother in laws garage in Bathgate, Jim knows his way around a celica and will give you a good price im sure

Well that's BS.

A minor service is £129 for a Celica at any Toyota dealer. Fixed Price.

The only thing putting me off doing my own minor is not getting a stamp..

Does anyone on here consider this as an issue? I've had no qualms in the past as my cars have had incomplete SH to begin with, but with the celica having low for its age mileage and FSH it seems a shame to lose it. It'll be going to my usual mechanic though should i decide against doing it myself.

I bought mine on 47k with 8 service stamps! She's on 70 now & not had one in that time. BUT she's for keeps so it doesn't bother me personally, I'd much rather do the work myself using quality stuff.

If you're going to be selling the car in a few year then it makes sense to keep the stamps going I suppose.

i think the trouble is where the dealers are asking ridiculous prices for doing services , i mean if a service cost 130 all in and they renewed the following:

*oil & filter sumpplug - this has got to cost you between 30-40 for decent oil (not gonna make the mistake i made years ago on my v6 with cheap oil)

*coolant change 23 -red longlife 5ltr or 36 - pink super long life 5ltr

*airfilter 5-20 approx

*fuel filter & sparkplugs not sure how much sparkys are for the toyotas

*gearbox oil change - again not sure how much here

everybody would pay that im sure the guy who bought my car six mths before i bought it spent nearly 300-400 for all fluids but seems strange as they was never anything that mentioned coolant change but that has been recently done anyway so that would be one less thing to do

but when you work out the cash it would always be the labour that cripples you especially if they dont constantly work on the car in one hit , this is why i prefer to get most done myself when needed and im sure it wont cost you between 300-400 per service

i can see if the car is a low mileage say around the 60k mark then im sure it would be worth getting the stamp in the book but for anything above that because they are higher rated and also the cars depreciate so much so whats the bother and most people will upgrade to a better model of car anyway

as long as youve maintained the car thats all that matters unless you have a lower mileage :)

Having worked for both a franchised dealer and independent garages I can tell you that the dealer doesnt do really better than anyone else - except charge a higher labour rate and higher costs of so called OE parts. (which they arent - car manufacturers dont make plugs, brakepads, oil, belts, tyres etc etc.)

Reading the above service lists, 80% of it is something anyone can do, you dont need a mechanic to tell you whether your lights work or not or your tyres are bolloxed and do you really need your car washing or vacuuming for about 60 quid or so an hour? (yeah, course its free)

A service history is now increasingly irrelevent on any Celica because they're all old cars.

Learn to do basic servicing yourself, its not rocket science plus you get the added satisfaction of knowing its been done properly.
